Sony hikes up PS5 pricing in April: PS5 – $649.99, PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99 PS5 Pro – $899.99, Portal $249.99

$700 for a Steam machine is too bad of value versus a $500 PS5.

Gabe: OK, I'll wait.

There has to be so much pressure on Rockstar now. If GTA6 isn't an 11/10-change-the-world game, this Christmas is going to be fucking brutal for the industry.

Rockstar has to be pissed. They're Current Gen only and GTA 6 will not pull the numbers that GTA5 did due to a stagnant userbase.

They sold GTA V FOUR times, very little reason to complain.

PS3 - PS4 - PC - PS5

It took them 13 years to release a new GTA, many people literally died before they could play it

The digital PS5 now costs $100 more than the model with the disk drive launched for over 5 years ago.

We are in the worst fucking timeline for gaming hardware
If it makes you feel any better the dollar lost more than $100 in value due to inflation. Happy trails!

Well just imagine whats next with new pricing coming up for switch 2, xbox series or even there helix project and also pc gpu. Ai boom becoming a head ache.

They saw base PS5 struggling with games ans they still increase the price.

Tell me, who kinda of retarded still think this is the best generation ever?

The only game that force me to buy a PS5 was Astro Bot.
They're conditioning people for the price of the PS6.
"Oh look it only £150 more then the PS5 Pro, it's a bargain"
And that's if they don't raise the price again.
It really is the worst generation.

But K KeplerL2 and MLIDo said that a 599$ PS6 with 30GB GDDR7-32Gbps and 2TB SSD was coming. Why is it 649.99$ for 1TB SSD?

Jensen was protecting PC gamers with his very limited price increases. If only they had capacity for non emotional thinking.

I've been following the console gaming industry since the late 80s... even with all the crazy shit like 3D0, Jaguar, Sega bailing, etc... it's never been as dire as it is right now. It's nearly unbelievable that the new initial buy-in for a game console is now $600... thats a fucking iPad at this point. If there is no dad or mom in the family that likes video games you are going to have generation(s) of kids who grow up without game consoles.
I hate to break it to you, but that's already happening. This will just accelerate that shift. Soon game consoles will be like vinyl record players. They will be the purview of older gamers with a lot of disposable income and super expensive.

Dark times. I have trouble seeing people dropping $900 on a Pro given that the enthusiast early adopters likely already have them.

Yeah I have three kids under 9... I see it already and, like you said, this will just accelerate it. Any hope that these kids will eventually "graduate" to consoles is all but gone with the cost of entry being this high. There will be no nostalgia for these devices.

People that want a Pro have a week to buy it at the current price....

If they don't, they simply don't care....

You're forgetting a big war that is causing energy prices to skyrocket, which therefore causes manufacturing costs to rise exponentially.
And you can add in a healthy dose of corporate greed to add in some margin on top of all those rising costs.

Maybe they could financially account for the added cost of RAM. But now that everything else is going up? You'd have to be dreaming for them to absorb that cost too.

Gabe is not even sure his hardware can muster RAM, let alone settle on release window or prices.

If anything, it's even worse news for Machine and Valve hardware in general.
I'm not sure if you've been following news, but RAM manufacturers are current reconsidering their expansion plans. Current projections are that we aren't far off from supply normalizing.

Valve wants to set a price that a good value and maintain it. They don't want to have prices yo-yo all over the place. Anyone that thinks Sony is going to quickly drop prices when the market stabilizes is crazy. You'll get a nice $50 price cut even though they went up $100.

$649 for a ps5 is crazy… also this may push me to buy a pro for $799 and trade in my og ps5. The fact pro was $649 during Black Friday 2025 too.

Marathon sucess forced their hand.

Sony is trying to subsidize money lost on Marathon development, same thing happened after Concord failure.

Sony gotta get cash for keeping bungie alive from somewhere, and it wont be from marathon coz its huge flop, so with effectively 0 competition from xbox, nasty price increases in pc hardware market, they smelled out the blood(their customer's blood ;/ ) and keep biting harder and harder into this open wound :messenger_ok:

That Bungie and Marathon debt won't pay themselves clowns. Pay up

Concord, marathon and up next the sure to flop the ugly horizon gathering is really eating up Sony's money.

PC GPU, Memory, and CPU prices have increased over the past ~5 years. Not to mention the prices for food, gas, and everything else imaginable, yet we have braindead, "rent free" Marathon posts like these.......

Surely thats the reason of the console price increase... Marathon still living rent free in some peoples head i see
