Crimson Desert has sold 2 million copies

Solid numbers.

The only thing that seems to be holding this back at the moment is lack of polish, but I think this will be one of those games that will inevitably end up being purchased by most gamers at some point in the long run anyway.

What do you think about this guy lol

That's absurd. 2 million sold less than 24 hours after the game launched is very good. That's despite not being a universally praised 90+ metacritic game or having fantastic user ratings on Steam.

At the same time, it doesn't mean there won't be a relatively large number of refunds either for those who don't like that this game really needed more time in the oven.

Funny how From Soft can release overly difficult, unfair, buggy games and people love them for it but a less known developer tries something truly ambitious, that is also difficult, with little hand holding and they get roasted over it - for many unvalid reasons.

Yes there are bugs, like every game, yes it's difficult and obtuse, that's the point.

If it's not for you, go play an Ubisoft icon-riddled game that holds not one of your hands but both.

I wonder how much of that was preorders. I've played a few hours and I'm really enjoying it. It feels totally unique from normal AAA focus tested slop, and extremely ambitious.

Better than Marathon right??

😉🤣😂
I said it in some Marathon thread, if that idiot had put Bungie to work on something outside their comfort zone instead of another first-person shooter déjà vu, we could've gotten a medieval fantasy RPG like The Witcher 3, focused on single-player. We'd probably be celebrating a hit and boosting the morale of a studio that's been pretty low.

Solid start, hoping for 3-4-5m sales announcements in coming weeks/months.
U can tell right away devstudio is proud/happy with sales numbers :)

Considering the game cost around $120 million to make over 7 years, making $140 Million in revenue in one day is great. Of course they only are receiving $100 million of that, but very very good for day one.

We've reached a point where selling 2 million units in less than 24 hours is considered 'a massive flop'.

The Roach King played for about 7 hours and his verdict was 'a really amazing game'.

They will probably break even and enter into profits during this weekend.
Most studios could only dream of such a result.

Pearl Abyss stock is down 40% since reviews came out. It will be interesting to see if the game has legs. Initial high sales from the pre-release massive hype isn't surprising.

Props to the marketing team from Pearl Abyss though. They did a fantastic job pumping the hype into overdrive prior to launch.

I don't get the "fuck the reviewers" comments.

This game is incredibly divisive, from gamers who bought the game, not just reviewers.

Which is totally Ok.. it's Ok that millions might like a game and millions others don't. Get over it, it's not a conspiracy against the "East" lol

Remember next time you don't like a game or company stop expending your energy going into threads talking shit about it, because the reality is people can love things you hate. Looking at you, half this forum, for your behavior in many threads here.

Here's the thing: Demons Souls did not score well at all on release. Do you know why it has a metacritic of 89? Because after the initial reviews in Japan (29/40 on Famitsu) where Sony gave up on publishing it in the west, it went viral and people started importing the (IIRC) Honk Kong version to play it. Many of us had already finished and loved the game when it was launched in the west.

No one knew what to expect, initially, it went against all the expectations people had. It ran like shit and it was brutal. And yet I, and many othere, couldn't fucking put it down. It was such a unique experience.

All the people who reviewed the other games in the series were fans already. All of them realized that, yes, the games had flaws, but they were also among the best games ever made and offered a level of challenge and exploration that wasn't matched by anything else. That's also the Reason why BOTW got 10/10 even though I really doubt it would have been so beloved if it wasn't called Zelda (Hot take, but I still liked it a lot).

I know very little about Crimson Desert, not saying it will be the same, but if there ever is a CD2, it will be probably be reviewed more fairly.

I have heard of numbers for Marathon and... Yes. Crimson Desert has sold more. I can't quantify what kind of flop Marathon is without knowing how much it cost to make, but I also don't think it will be shut down next month. It's had a rough start, but Bungie can turn it around.

Bold of them to announce that before Steam's refund period ends.

Good for them i guess... proof that marketing is really all that matters 🤷‍♂️

I dont know if there was a streamer or influencer that they didn't have market their game
For real. To me this game's marketing strategy was to you YouTubers to gaslight people. Yes I tried the game. A 78mc is generous as hell.

I finally sat down and watched the video IGN put out where they sat down and talked with Travis Northup, the guy who reviewed the game, there's a part where he actually blatantly shows his bias against the game talking about a part he didn't like just cause the game gives no instruction and lets you figured out an objective for yourself, then within a minute of that statement praises Breath of the Wild for the exact same thing, these people have zero integrity or consistency.

I said this before but i genuinely think 6 months from now, 9 months from now, with all the inevitable patches that are coming, this game is going to be so well thought of that it will still be in the running for GOTY, even if its just a nomination.

I feel like the marathon folks over in the OT...ngl.

This game was basically made for me. I started the game up got my throat slit open and pushed into a river like a lil'bitch then beat the shit out of two guards, got my horse, and ran off into the woods and started picking up Marigolds, Cockroaches, Fruit Flies, Dragon Flies, Butterflies, and catching fish with my manly ass bare HANDS.

My inventory got filled up (again...like a lil'bitch) I went to town...sold ALL of that to the first vendor I ran into...then bought the single handed weapon "intro to blacksmithing" tech manual, read that, SOLD it back to him (this time like a BIG BOSS) got a quest from him to mine some ore and the dude next to him gave me an axe to cut down trees.

In 2 hours time I already started gathering pointless limitless SHIT and made a few weapons...I love it.

I wonder what the split is looking like.

I know it's not the best metric, but the PlayStation review ratings seem very low for a game like this.

It is currently pulling similar numbers to Sons of Sparta after a day.

What is the problem with all these people who wanted it to fail?
I have no idea.

I thought we were all for Single Player experiences, no GaaS, all that...and yet...some people insist on trying to downplay a game that stepped out and tried to do something a bit different.

Its just weird.

Probably very Asian-focused. China and South Korea are likely doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

It's up to "Mostly Positive" (I think that means it broke 3.5/5) in English Language review scores on Steam, which are roughly half of the reviews.

The overall is at Mixed still.

But that should help sales a bit in English speaking countries.

When this gets just enough updates and patches it's gonna be fuckin masterclass
I mean this goes for everything no? The question is to the have the stomach and budget to take that time and fix it when bad press and sales drop?? Or do that cash out and move on to the next game in the pipeline?

You would think, but just based on reviews this games reception seems much better in English speaking countries than non-English and it hasn't gotten the usual Asian time zone boosts that they usually get.

No. Very rarely is that the case. Polish doesn't make a bad game good, they have to have the bones of a good game to begin with.

Not only that, but making fun (and rightfully so) of the MAWWDUURRNN AWWDIENCE for not supporting titles they say they do (Ex Voto) but then encouraging gamers not to support titles like this.

New IP (kinda), not made by Western activist hacks, single player game with too much content as opposed to too little, not dumbed down bullshit, and not releasing a broken mess like so many other games. I don't get it either. Not saying Crimson Desert is some 12/10 masterpiece but c'mon dude. The downplaying is real.

Its probably broken even already and then some. I'm sure i read somewhere the game cost 70mil to make

Its definitely not a flop...

But theres no doubt that this game has a boat load of money invested into it. Is 2 mil like re9 2 mil or is it like square Enix 2 mil which is well below expectations

Crimson Desert reportedly cost ~$130M to make so they pretty much made their budget back on the 1st day of sales.

This to me is a game that id say people that talk themselves out of playing it, especially rpg fans or any type of adventure fans, don't like games because while I understand for example I passed on marathon and I know it's a game people love... It's still not a classic traditional type of game

This is a brand new ip, has all the elements of a classic traditional action rpg... It's new and does new things but it's still a familiar game format, I question anyone that says "pass".

Now sure if they get in and maybe it doesn't land well, they tried... But anyone that is a fan of those genres and just pass based on journos I question that
