Asha Sharma: Next Xbox Project Name: "Helix" - Will 'lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games'

Now I can go back to Using my RTX 5080 without being worried the power cable will melt, or lighting strikes or ninja in the night. I'll know I can walk into the local Gamestop and get a Helix and keep playing.

What's the point of playing Xbox games on PC when you just can play the far better PC version of every single game?
This is a good point. It's free to play PC games online. PC games have adjustable graphics settings. You can even play PC games on another PC.
It costs money to play Xbox games online. Xbox games don't have adjustable graphics settings. You can't play an Xbox game you purchased on a PC.

...why would anyone ever buy the Xbox version of a game?

If they want it to run PC games, it better be beefy, otherwise you'd hear no end to complaints about weak specs like Steam Machine .. and that thing isn't even out.

Do you think they'll show the box around this year's E3?

My point is that this seems like a waste of resources by MS…. who exactly is this trying to appeal to?

You're not appealing to the console crowd because they're gonna go PS since all Xbox games are on PS and PC

You aren't appealing to the PC crowd because they already have PCs and this isn't going to beat that

You aren't appealing to the common consumer because you're going to price them out

So trying to appeal to everyone and you appeal to no one
They still have millions of loyal Xbox customers paying for Gamepass on Xbox. This is for them.

I suppose Microsoft will make online free on Xbox, otherwise nobody would play the Xbox version.
Online multiplayer paywall is 99% going away. I think Xbox should do one time $10 transaction fee in order to reduce cheaters but get rid of overall monthly fee.
Xbox and PC games? Or Xbox are PC games? Any chance the console gets exclusive that do not play on other PCs? I'm just over here thinking about my fun money budget and if I will need to consider this purchase.
If MS does full ecosystem unification with the universal licensing and universal SKU, then it's still possible they may allow certain games to be exclusive to Consoles due to licensing, like NHL, MLB. Basically, automatic Play Anywhere for every new game but Opt out with valid reasons. MS will definitely accommodate the major publishers. I just want fully unified ecosystem.

Sounds like you're just projecting your own (highly questionable) thoughts onto the "common consumer".
…….so you believe the average consumer is going to drop $1k on this? Parents will buy it for their kids in masses! Grandparents on fixed incomes will surprise their grandkids! The teenager working part time will happily pick one up!

Seems you're wildly out of touch with the average consumer and current economic realities

Looking forward to chatting about this more with partners and studios at my first GDC next week!

OEM devices are (back?) on the menu.

Interesting timing nonetheless. Like I've said before there's like a 10% chance they go back into some traditional (or traditional-lite, more like) business model, which would probably surprise some thinking only a non-subsidized SKU would be available.

But it really depends on how the OEMs are involved specifically and if there's some catch to accessing Steam/EGS etc. games (i.e behind a paywall) or not. I guess we'll start hearing about that sometime during the year; GDC is more focused on technical details so there'll be some kind of spec & architectural breakdown of some form, at least.

MS better launch this with bulletproof software. The Xbox market already has very little patience as it is.

I'm very curious to see how this will matchup against a 9070xt PC though.

Definitely too soon to see it.

Hopefully we get solid details at GDC next week. Not much to discuss.

Yeah, we should start hearing more about what they intend to do with the machine at GDC. Actual hardware and spec reveal not any time soon.

Right....cos Sony have never changed things last minute before.

I just think it's a bit arrogant to say that it will lead when they can't have any idea what Sony are up to.

Sony is hobbled by the handheld, especially since it's so slow. I think Sony's plan is FG to try to make things look not so bad comparatively.

All these people celebrating PC games…….

Congrats, you get to plug a keyboard and mouse into it and treat it like a computer. Most PC games that aren't bigger release don't have controller support

I think this whole "I GET MY STEAM LIBRARY!" is so mislead.. if you have a Steam library, you have a Steam capable machine already. So who the fuck cares?
What?, outside of the odd Indie game or RTS game (and even RTS games sometimes have controller support) pretty much every PC games have controller support.

Its not 2005 anymore.

I could care less about how good or bad this sells, new hardware is always exciting!
One of the best moments in the industry, indeed. A glimpse into the future of gaming and its technology in the coming years.

Super interesting days are approaching. The proposal sounds interesting, in principle... and above all, unique.

Let's see the details next Monday of how they plan to execute it... because that's where a large part of their chances of success will lie.

HELI-X. So, it's a trybrid. An Xbox, a PC, and a Helicopter. I guess that also makes it a portable. Genius!!!

So a PC that has some Xbox BC. Which is completely useless to PC gamers since pretty much any Xbox game already has a superior native PC version.

So Kepler is lying? I don`t think so... It is a new gen with RDNA5, it says improves perf/w around 40-50%, 9070xt is 20% slower than 5080 and consumes 300w, this new xbox consumes around 250w, so it will easy be around a 5080.
I don't think he is laying…but I think they will be various configuration of the machine
