Edit: Schreier just mentioned it's not just speculation. Article incoming about this:

Jason: I mean, I think for them, their strategy is like, live service games are coming to PC. But I think the sense I'm getting is that they're backing away from putting their exclusive console stuff like traditional single-player stuff on PC.

Kirk: Really? You think they could close that door and start to say nevermind Ghost of Tsushima 3 is only going to be on PlayStation?

Jason: I do. I do and I mean even if they don't, we are seeing Wolverine is coming in September 15th, and that's not coming to PC its coming to PlayStation 5 only.

Kirk: You don't think that'll come to PC?

Jason. I wouldn't be surprised if it never came to PC, but even if it does you have a strong idea of what that is and that you need a PlayStation to play it at least for the indefinite future.
Kirk: Right, I'm just observing a strategic similarity in the way that PlayStation is now releasing The Last of Us 2, these big PlayStation exclusives are being put on PC. And in seeing the grumbling among PlayStation fans saying,

Jason: Yeah, I think that's going to stop, is what I'm saying.
Kirk: Right, exactly.
So that would be interesting if it did stop. They'd be moving back toward that console strategy direction.

Jason: Yeah, and I don't know, I'm not sure how super successful those PC releases were.

Kirk: It seems like trying to put something back in a bottle or turn back the clock. That doesn't seem like it would work to me.
Oh, taking it and stopping doing that? Well, it's like they never did it day in day. So the PC releases were always just kind of late to the partying
Jason: And I don't think it was that successful in the first place. So I don't know. It doesn't seem like it's going to be that big of a blow.

Kirk: You mean like sales-wise successful or?

Jason: Yeah, like commercially successful. Yeah, I mean, that's the big question. But yeah, to me, it's very possible that they put that genie back in the bottle because it seemed like they were always kind of half dipping their toe in the water, like dipping their toe in the water, like half entering the pool in the first place with that, with the staggered releases."

Seems like it's getting more and more likely the PC initiative stopped once Jim Ryan left Playstation. Sounds like he was the one pushing for this to happen, he left and we are back.
PC is only for live games.

It's a dumb strategy to switch course. Games aint getting any cheaper to make and people are not going to switch from PC to PS5. It's literally free money.

I hope Wolverine specifically never releases on PC.

That will greatly benefit PS5 and PS6!

No need to switch course for games that don't matter.

Just Wolverine.

It's been a catastrophic and non-lucrative key thread in Sony's strategy. I'm confident in saying that it's compromised their pipeline and made the games worse.

If this happens, it'll be solidified when Hermen and Totoki get ousted.

I think this is more so representation that there's no demand to play these games on PC. What left is there to even port?

I have no doubt that if they actually start making games people want to play Sony will start porting it on PC but for now it just doesn't seem it's worth it given that there's virtually no desire to play these games.

Since it's going off the success of the games, wasn't it more because the PC ports were just not that good rather then there being a lack of interest in the titles? Or is it possible it's both.

I doubt it. I think (like in the OP there) you can't put that genie back in the bottle. Do they maybe make it two years or something before they do it? Sure. I could see something like that. But to just....not release them on PC at this point after you've already been doing it?

I hope not, because I do enjoy some of their first party games, but if they do, I'm still not gonna buy a PS6, so, at least from me, it's 100% lost revenue for them.

Considering you had people thinking of selling their PS consoles since all games were coming to PC...it's not that linear. There's gamers that buy PS consoles for exclusives and also have PCs. People don't just have one platform in many cases.

Can we get a time stamp???

shit is long as shit bro

I could see Sony doing some dumb shit like making a deal with Epic to have their games launch exclusively on the Epic Games Store for a year and then release them on Steam.

He's just guessing. Why would Wolverine not being announced for PC matter? They've never done that for their actual 1st party non-GAAS games.

I've bought a lot of Sony's games on PC. I wouldn't have bought a PS5 for any of them. Maybe I'm the minority but there's at least a few of us out here. Any info we have on sales trends is just anecdotal though. I hope we get Saros on PC at least.

The genie hasn't fulfilled any of the wishes.
Eh, sure, the ports haven't always been good at launch -- but I think most of them get patched to a good state eventually, unless I'm uninformed. The ones I have have been good (I don't care about Spiderman 2, I know that one was recently bad)

As long as Nixxes is around, I feel like PC porting will still happen. The moment they're shuttered, well, then yeah, I believe it, lol.

I really don't see why they'd pull back when they've clearly made extra money. Which is something they clearly care about more than a lot of other things considering their actions over the years, lol.

This is the only way they could get me back on console, assuming they up the software output to more than 2 games per year I'm actually interested in.

I'm sure those people exist but I don't think they have any significance in Sony's bottom line. There's more people inclined to buy a console out of convenience than people willing to go into the PC investment/rabbithole. I don't see PS5 sales slowing down because of PC releases.

Big difference between Sony and MS. Sony doesn't need to put its games elsewhere, whereas MS has no choice but to do so if they want their Xbox devision to survive another decade.

For Sony, it was obviously a little side venture. Very possible that they're not too happy with the results, and are now winding it down. They're in the position where they can, and it wouldn't hurt them in the slightest.

Seems like the case for many PC gamers. PC gamers have enough better alternatives to the Sony first party stuff now. Sony will really have to improve their games to stand out as console sellers, IMO.

I personally think it's a shame, they would lose a customer. I will never buy a console again.

But I don't believe they'll ignore consumers. They just announced Death Stranding 2 and Kena 2 for PC. I know they're not first-party titles, but they're published by Sony.

What exclusive AAA-games for PS5 are currently missing on PC?

- Astro Bot
- Yotei

Did I miss anything?

Hope it's not true, but if it is I'll be buying a Playstation again. It sucks but I don't want to miss these PS exclusives.
