Crimson Desert be looking good AF - huge open world single player RPG PS5/PC/Xbox

The concern trolling on this game must be among the worst I have seen in a while. Some of the things I keep reading only can be explained from an extreme fanboy of whatever other IP feels "threatened" by this.

It's a fine line. I'm ok with a game doing a lot, but it has to roll things out gradually. I don't want to start the game killing bandits and by level 10 I'm in a mech. I want to earn the cool stuff over many hours of play.
They said that mechs and dragons are around endgame stuff.

I was told that there actually is base PS5 footage out there. From last year. I don't recall seeing that, only Pro. Or is there?
They used ps5's at gamescom 2025 I believe. Not sure if it was base or pro, but there's a few youtubers with footage. Bangem Side Quests on youtube has an unedited video from gamescom and he said he saw the ps5 console he was playing on.

I'm with you on the characters and story... but lore? Elden Ring has exceptionally good lore. There's a reason there are entire communities built around Fromsoft games who spend countless hours sorting through the details and piecing everything together. Fromsoft is masterclass at lore in gaming.

I think the bigger point was that games like this don't need much of a story, it's more about how immersive the world feels, and how interactive the mechanics are. This game could have great lore too, who knows. There's a whole feature and mechanic built around learning about the world through reading and observation in CD.

says the guy with an iq of lower than 100 and insulting because of a simple question.

Did it look good to you? Person I spoke to said it was flawless.

it looks appetizing, but then again, so does a lot of the pastry at my local market, tho you really wouldn't want to eat any of it (trust me)...

my 'concern trolling' is with the overly familiar 'serious middle ages melodrama' atmosphere, which, for me, tends to wear itself out over dozens of hours...

It does look very good and it has a nice twist on the setting with the action / combat being so cool.

I just hope the dialogue doesn't contain lines such as "it be looking good AF".

Good god people, the concern trolling is getting pretty ridiculous, maybe it's time for some of you to stop making ass pull assumptions and saying things like "fake game" about a game that's literally been shown multiple times at expos and just be quiet till the game comes out. Some of you on here so desperately want this game to be bad for no reason, it's getting a little obnoxious now.

I think it looked nice, it was a demo still but It looked like it ran pretty well to my eye, but I'm not an fps Nazi. Check his vid on YouTube yourself if you want to see the footage he captured.

Nah, had enough of Souls ripoffs and I don't trust Korean devs with combat systems.

I share your hate of Stellar Blade and am tired of Souls rip-offs, but Lies of P is quality. I hope From Software borrows the mechanics that let you earn a flask once all have been depleted based on how well you play and/or the hilt/blade swap mechanic. Level design isn't the greatest however.

This game is BDO in singleplayer format…They just ported the online game. Most the "wow factor" is already in BDO for few years.

There is something off about the graphics. All the shadows are pitch black even though there is bright sunlight which should bounce around everywhere and go through the tent material for example. Makes the contrast look even stronger than it already is. And there is no atmospheric haze or volumetrics which pushes the contrast even further.

But aside from that, looks quite alright.

It's an asian game, they havent really figured it out how lighting works. Same issue was in Wukong, even with hw lumen, certain interiors/shadows looked way too dark. Nioh 3 is also another example, but that engine is complete trash anyway so yeah.

I'm gonna go into this game blind and take a risk on it. Looks interesting enough to be a fun game to explore and hit a bunch of buttons.

Sometimes that's all I want.

Crimson Desert looks like a really good mix between what I love in a lot of games :
  • Combat system inspired by SF, Last Blade, KOF (they also nailed the sound effects, they make me think about SFZ3) and Dragon's Dogma
  • Exploration inspired by Zelda with puzzles and freedom of movement (hopefully some big dungeons too...)
  • Story a bit inspired by TW3 and FF16, though not on the same level. However, cutscenes and choreography seems incredible and very dynamic, not the static shit of TW3, but not the best cutscenes of FF16, it's more grounded. But of course there won't be choices like in TW3.
But actually, it makes me think about Actraiser as a whole, like a rebooted and very ambitious version of it (within an open world of course).
I find that there a lot of similarities in artistic direction, enemies, world design, and even activities (like Strategy/Sim aspect).
The world design makes me think of Actraiser 2 map, with the blend of medieval and technology.
Also, Kliff abilities (hovering, using elements with its sword) is a bit similar to the hero in Actraiser 2.

To illustrate what I'm saying :

I put in an order in for it. I like the grounded combat mixed with the flying.
I'm not getting it for its plot. I'm more about the gameplay.

Yeah dude, I keep hearing people talk about story and I have no idea what I did in Elden Ring. A good story is nice but gameplay and adventuring takes precedence for me in these games.

If the combat really feels as meaty as Dragon's Dogma and there are some cool dungeons for me to discover and explore then this might become one of my favorite games ever lol

But I'm not that optimistic. I saw a screenshot with a GPS minimap like in TW3 and a quest objective that said "clear the enemy camp" and that threw me off the hype train quite a bit. Still hoping the game rocks ofc.

Has to be this video then

Definitely looks very good indeed. Had not seen this before.

That scene at 28:00 is cool, with all the artillery falling down and all the knights duking it out.

This is mmorpg? pretty impressive if these moves are usable realtime with good latency and hit detection like an action game
yeah it is. Looks fun, and I wish there were more MMOs with this kind of combat. This one and Dragon's Dogma Online are the only ones I know.

Finally, some weather. I don't remember it seeing it before. I love when it rains in these types of games. This looks so good. RE 9 into this will make for an awesome beginning to the year.

The biggest thing this game is missing to me is a character creator. Dragon's Dogma's system was amazing.

Why are people concern trolling when:

a) It´s not an exclusive game
b) it's not a Woke/Western game

And it seems it is trying to be a very ambitious game?

Oh I don't know, I've never heard of pretty Korean games falling flat on their face? Would be a first /s

Everything they show seems good. Does it mean it'll stick the landing? Nobody knows. Do you? Are you reviewing the game?

I'm all for this to be good, I've said so many times, but to call any concern as "trolling" is really fucking ironic coming from you with all the sludge you've dug up from the bottom pits of internet for others games.

Looking at this thread, it seems everyone are optimistically hoping it delivers on what it shows. The actual concern being it almost looks too good that it might not deliver. That is not concern trolling. It's called being cautiously optimistic about a dev we've never seen a single player game from.

I saw the page and i saw people calling out the concern trolling. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Regardless. I think the story/narrative will be subpar as well as the performance.

If Crimson Desert is anything like it's predecessor Black Desert the game will end up being a Farming(like real life farming and life skills) and Grinding Simulator.

Except with only 3 character classes instead of 31. Though if we want to be fair Black Desert started with 6 Character Classes at launch.

And unlike Crimson it had a character creator and like Vindictus had gender-locked classes. Which the 3 characters are their own class and by extension also Genderlocked.

In Crimson you have 3 preset characters and mostly are playing as Kliff for main campaign stuff. When it comes to free roam and sidequests once unlocked you can play as any of the 3 characters.

The game world will be twice as big as Skyrim which can be good or bad.

But it's also Pearl Abyss so I expect a lot of bullet-sponge enemies that barely react to your attacks and ones that do is only after reaching stagger thresholds. I've noticed they have been specifically using boss tier enemies for combat footage so I'm not sold on it.

If you love Black Desert you'll probably like this game. I'm curious as to how it will do.

Given my mixed feelings about Black Desert I think I'll wait for impressions after release.

How does the combat feel in that game when compared to Dragon's Dogma? I mean stuff like hit-stop, camera shakes, enemy stagger animations, sound design and so on.

I'm here just hoping this game is half as good as they make it look. Will wait for impressions first tho. Not reviews, impressions from the public.

Please just be more Witcher than Final Fantasy, I can't stand Asian RPGs, they're too melodramatic, daft and whimsical and from what I've seen this is leaning away from gritty medieval fantasy :-( looks incredible but if the story is shit and the acting over the top the game will be hard to play
