Hi everyone, I've been asking this question for myself since a few month : what will I buy for Xmas 2027 (assuming this date is correct, if not it doesn't matter for this poll) ?
As an old gamer buying a PS6 is a no brainer for me but I'm sure I'll also want the portable version. So why not buy the portable first, then eventually the PS6.
Honestly this is not an easy choice as prices should be quite high. Your thoughts ?

Assuming the portable can play all Ps6 software natively I'd be more interested in the portable. A 'Switch-like' that can also be easily hooked up to the TV would be even better though.

Both.

I couldn't care less because it's at least two years away.

Planning your Christmas 2027 purchases in early 2026 is beyond premature, it's pointless. We're barely into the PS5's proper lifecycle

Speculation of the PS6 kicked off seriously as far back as 2021-2023, barely a year into the PS5 era

It's the same cycle every generation: endless hype chasing the next thing before we've squeezed any real value out of the current one.

Some gamers are just chronically dissatisfied, no matter how good the hardware or games get, it's never enough.

Shouldn't we wait until we see what they are, price etc. first?

(but i'll probably get the PS6, I'll need to know more about this handheld if it actually happens)

My only gaming device at the time is the Steam Deck. Since I got it, I've grown to love portable gaming so much, that I'll probably never return to non-portable gaming again. So PS6 portable all the way.

Ppl get jumped in my area when they got 50$ phones, so portability brings 0 value to me, ps6 4sure.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've played a portable device in the last 10 years despite owning a Switch, Switch 2, and Steam Deck.

Portables just aren't my thing...

If ps6 portable does everything at 60 fps, will go with that. Otherwise one of handheld pcs.

Ps6 home console will depend on what next xbox brings to the table.

Will only get one home console and one portable.

- none -

I believe that Sony will continue and further expand this customer-unfriendly yet economically optimal approach. It is a clear push away from physical media, where customers still have more control and rights over what they have purchased, toward digital usage licenses, where customers give up even more rights and place themselves in complete dependence on a provider and its ecosystem.

Following this logic, the PS6 and a portable companion will likely be released without the ability to use physical media at all. Sony already paved the way for this within the PS5 generation, and customers are accepting it.

So if I am faced with the choice of buying a new PlayStation that no longer supports physical media, or only does so if you purchase an optional drive that is tied to servers and or requires a Plus subscription, or simply going back to PC, where games are also distributed digitally but I am not dependent on a single provider and have options to obtain and preserve games from different sources, then the decision is clear to me.

Even though I have owned every PlayStation and associate great moments with each console, at some point there is an end. If the described scenario becomes reality, the PS5 may have been my last PlayStation.

Both. But I still doubt they can pack the same power as a stationary console into a handheld. Unless the stationary console won't be a big upgrade to the PS5. So far it's nothing but rumors.

I will most likely get the PS6, I use my PS5 pro most days.
I got the portal and it was VERY helpful for a certain period of time, but I hardly use it anymore. So I am not sure about buying the portable, especially since the portal will probably be compatible with the PS6.

I'm not buying a portable PlayStation since I have no need for portable gaming. But that's what've always told myself with the other two and their sexy sleek design took the best of me. But I'm not falling for it again. Am I?

I own a PS5 Pro which is easily going to last me another 5 years. There was pretty much zero relevant technical progress the last 5 years and i doubt it's going to change the next. After that maybe a PS6 depending on if it actually offers a reasonable technical leap.

Zero need for a PS Portable as i own a Switch 2 which covers absolutely everything i need from a portable device for the foreseeable future. If i upgrade it's going to be a Switch 2 OLED.

If I buy a playstation next generation it'll be the standard model. Not interested in portable or pro versions. I mostly play my Switch in docked and I can play games on PC for high performance and graphics.

My PS5 has barely been used. I've played Final Fantasy Remake, Rebirth, and Death Stranding 2. I'm only interested in GTA until it comes to PC.

If I buy a nex gen Playstation at all, it will be the standard Ps6.
I don't care that much about portables. They always sound cool on paper, but then I get one and I end up using it at home 99% of the time. Having a secondary device to ocassionally play in bed or on a long flight was easier to justify when they were like $100-200. Now that they are like $500+, no thx.

Pretty sure I'll get a PS6, love a home console and there are some Sony games I must have day one. If I hold off upgrading my pc before then the upgrade should be very noticeable

PS6 portable for me. I was initially very tempted to buy a switch 2 for metroid 4, but now that ship has sailed and I'm not nearly as interested in buying one, not to say I won't borrow a friend's switch to play it at some stage.

I've barely played PS5 since I bought one, largely to do with my current lifestyle, but a portable system would give me more options and availability to play, whereas a stationary console in the living room space is more limited.

Both.

If not too expensive, PS6 at launch, and 2-3 years later the PSP2 (highly doubt they'd release at the same time, I think the portable will be released a handful years later as happened with PS Portal and PSVR).

I'll say neither for now.

Got PS5 on launch and it's easily been my least used console ever.

That said, if they do Bloodborne remake they'll get me.

None.
Playstation killed my interest in their gaming section with their ugly directions. I'm fine with my PS5.

At this point I'll just keep my PS5 for the rare exclusive since it will be cross gen anyway.
Everything else on PC.

PS6, if it has any worthwhile exclusives. But coming from the PS5 and Sony's present strategy, it most likely won't have any. I would never buy a portable PS6, zero interest.

Next gen will probably be the first one where I skip Playstation entirely, feels very sad.

I will buy PlayStation 6 on the first day. 3/4 of the internet on the forums will say that of course they will not buy it. The reality is then completely different.

I'm better off buying it and a month I can even sell it making a profit.
