Decided to peek in at the purple place. Oh dear.

Thought it may have been parody, but dont think that is allowed over there.

No corporations are our friends and Sony are a bunch of greedy fucks, but you're kidding yourself if you think Xbox has done anything to keep Sony in check for the last 10 years.

Xbox hasn't been an actual competitor to Sony since the Xbox 360 days and Sony has been and will continue to do whatever the fuck they want with pricing and arrogant moves or whatever.

Nothing has been officially confirmed by Microsoft, but reliable journalists have been reporting for weeks that Xbox games are coming to PlayStation. It picked up steam over the weekend and Phil Spencer has announced today that they will update us on the future of Xbox and their new strategy.

All of this is happening after subpar game sales, stagnant subscriber growth (also reported by Mat Piscatella), and terrible Xbox console sales.
Thanks for the breakdown, haven't had the time to read most of these reports. The meltdowns are starting to make sense.

I think all of this could've been avoided if they got rid of the awful Phil Spencer and Matt Booty combination.

It’s like in the game of life where you get a really crappy job and can’t change it.

Actually that has nothing to do with this… I just hate it when that happens to me and I lose.
I dont know if this is another version but the one I play the job hardly matters in the end ...is so much money in the end houses that the jobs mean shit

Imagine this Is just some 4D chess and Phil comes out and is like "future of gaming is MOAR EXCLUSIVES!!!!" then they announce like a whole slate of new consoles and announces 5 new publisher purchases all while actively shitting on their console warrior Twitter fanbase to try and completely disassociate themselves from those idiots.

Obviously not going to happen at all... but the meltdowns from fans and warriors would be hilarious

Just wanted to see how this would effect me as a PS gamer and had to google "Xbox franchises" to see what I might be interested in which in itself isn't a great sign.

Then it gets worse when you realise most of the stuff listed is from recent, large-scale acquisitions. And what was listed from the early days is basically Halo, Fable & Gears; none of which are with their original devs anymore. Fable hasn't been shown properly yet and Halo/Gears are widely-considered as being well past their prime.

Problem number one was games, games, games; or lack thereof..

The fact that a 25yr-old gaming division of MS which competed neck and neck in the PS360 gen may (in the case of the nuclear option) have it's entire catalogue brought over to the platform I reside on and yet the franchises that are of any consequence can be counted on one hand...... Well, it's not exactly impressive.

Potential to be a disaster for gaming.

How do you think the quality of movies would be effected if there was only one film studio.
There will 100% be a Chinese competitor to truly enter the market.

Probably through Korean companies or something but I 100% expect a Chinese competitor to join the market if MS completely leaves (I don't think they are and I really do think Phil's announcement is gonna be a soft one, just confirming hifi rush only and subtly saying case by case basis while still emphasizing the Xbox console and brand as a whole)

- Phil's statement, thanks to Chatgpt -

  • Write as if you were Phil Spencer
  • Explain to the community that Xbox games will be available on other platforms
  • Emphasize that Gamepass will remain exclusive.

In a hypothetical interview, Phil Spencer might say:

"Thank you for joining me today. As we navigate the evolving landscape of gaming, our mission at Xbox is to empower players to enjoy their favorite games wherever they choose. Recent discussions have sparked interest around our strategy for bringing Microsoft's games to a broader audience, including platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo. I'd like to clarify our vision and the exciting path ahead.

Our approach is centered on expanding the availability of our first-party games, making them accessible on more devices and platforms than ever before. This decision is driven by a desire to embrace the gaming community at large, ensuring that more players can experience the rich and diverse stories our games tell, regardless of their preferred gaming platform.

However, it's important to differentiate between the availability of our games and our Xbox Game Pass service. Xbox Game Pass remains exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem, including our consoles and PC. This service is a cornerstone of our offering, providing unparalleled value to our players through access to a vast and diverse library of games. By maintaining the exclusivity of Xbox Game Pass, we continue to enhance its value, offering a unique gaming experience that is synonymous with Xbox.

The decision to broaden the reach of our games while keeping Xbox Game Pass within our ecosystem reflects our commitment to both innovation and inclusivity. It's about giving gamers the freedom to choose how and where they play while fostering a vibrant Xbox community that benefits from the unique advantages of Game Pass.

As we move forward, we're excited about the possibilities this strategy opens up. By making our games more widely available, we're inviting more players to discover the depth and breadth of experiences that Xbox offers. At the same time, we're committed to enriching the Xbox Game Pass experience, ensuring it remains the best value in gaming.

We believe that gaming is for everyone, and through this approach, we're taking significant steps to make that vision a reality. Thank you for your continued support as we work to bring the joy of Xbox to more players around the world."

This statement would reflect Phil Spencer's known commitment to broadening the accessibility of games while underscoring the strategic value Xbox Game Pass provides exclusively within the Microsoft gaming ecosystem.

I think the attention has really gone to some of those peoples heads. Listening to that space the smug sense of self importance and firm belief their voice is paramount above other Xbox players is laughable.

Why people support them I don’t know . Not one of them is straight talking and honest.

I've always hated Xbox brand's influence on the market, particularly with recent acquisition frenzies.

But I don't really love Sony either, at least I pretty consistently hate every part of their body of work that originates outside Japan itself. Uncharted for me is right up there with online COD in the category of "franchises that made gaming and gamers measurably more retarded."

That leaves me wanting the one company I still love in this space (except Nintendo but they're a different thing) to come out with an answer: Valve. I'd give anything for the big 3 to officially become Valve, Nintendo, Sony in that order... what a lovely future that is to imagine.

"Microsoft doesn't care about consoles. That's the old fashion model. They want you to play their games on any device

But the hardcore Xbox fanboys flip when one of those devices is PlayStation? lol.

You know they were bullshitting with that statement and now they're getting exposed.

I'm interested in hearing @Riky and @DarkMage619 thoughts ....
  1. Xbox doesn't need to charge $70
  2. Gamepass only needs Xbox and Pc to grow
  3. Xbox doesn't care about console sells
  4. A Series S and X strategy will not hurt next gen
  5. Redfall was just a over sight
  6. "this year will be different"

All these excuses and more ..... I just can't wait to see how Phill will spin this now. Wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Bond is the one to deliver the final blow and Phil announces his retirement and rides off into the sunset

…and at the last moment, he pulls off his rubber mask to reveal he was Shuhei Yoshida all along.

I thought the purple place knew everything about everything...

Is this numpty really spreading the false tiktok narrative that Sony "killed sega"...

Sega killed fucking Sega 🤣, the whole Saturn to dreamcast was an absolute shit show and Peter Moore is on record saying Sega JPN were fucking clueless and single handidly killed the console with terrible decisions and not being able to adapt

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion
Trying to not get my hopes up for Xbox "exclusives" coming over to PlayStation. The idea of exclusives have always sucked for customers.

Very worried about what happens if Xbox completely capitulates on the console front though. Having only one option for this kind of thing is never good.

The question is what killed the Xbox Brand?
Was it GP?
XboxOne?
No Exclusives?

Phil stated that the "xboxone" version was the worst one to lose because the people build their digital library with that gen.

That's BS im
depending on Starfield, forza performance (increase of consoles sales and GP subscribers). Once they didn't move the needle I thought "this is catastrophic"

The ABK thing was never really a question for me. They spend 70B for IPs that are PC-centric live/ongoing games. CoD is a rubber band ready to snap.

So, I didn't expect to be this fast. but things are just going to get worse for MS/Xbox going forward.

It all comes back to bad management and leadership with Xbox. Look how they fucked up all 3 of their biggest releases in 2023. Redfall, Starfield, and Forza. Each one needed to be great (esp Starfield and Forza) and each one was a major disappointment. On top of that each game was overhyped and arguably falsely advertised. When you're in danger of losing it all as a platform, you damn sure have to insure that at least Starfield and fucking Forza are bangers. What does MS do? Can't even get 60 fps in 2 of them. All with major technical issues. Forza looking nothing like it's gameplay trailers.

But 2023 was just the culmination of years of terrible Phil lead decision making and failures. Why would they shut down their BC program? Oh, because GamePass became all he cared about to the detriment of everything else. Always following trends and not really thinking about what matters to console gamers. Look what happened to Halo under Phil's watch?! Seemingly little things like making Halo free to play and forcing CrossPlay on console gamers. Series S parity BS. Not treating Series X like the premium console it was marketed as. Having day and date releases with PC.

Nothing that would make the Series consoles stand out is left so of course the hardware division is going to nosedive.
