Hellblade II | The Game Awards 2023 Trailer (Releasing 2024)

Technically I was more impressed with the giant trailer, although this new trailer looks good. It did not impressed me at all. It was more inline with the previous game. And the combat looks dull. Ninja Theory should have shown something more spectacular for the time they have been working on this game. That monkey game by game science looks more impressive than this one.

So much for all those wild claims of open worlds and improved combat.

Looks like it's gonna be more of the same face screaming cutscenes and tiny combat arenas again 1 or 2 foes
When did they ever say it was an open world game? 🤔🤔

Looks incredible, not rushed let's go.

Same.

Screaming and or confused face FTW! lol The combat looks really stiff, so I'm hoping it has a good story like the first as its looking like that might be the only thing I'll enjoy with it outside of the graphics.

We'll see.

Visuals looks really really good. But that’s to be expected.

I would’ve like to see some indication of the puzzles being improved. It was difficult to notice if the combat has improved or not as well. Those are the two main things they really need to fix imo.

I remember the first one to be amazing to look at, a slog to play (nice take on puzzles though) and an overall depressing experience (by design, no less.)

This sure looks like the sequel.

Adam, after the countless bans you received and after all the shit you've been getting from others for being a so-called Xbox stan, what do you do ? you double down by keep doing the same shit by being "cute" and everything.

Again, you know I'm right, RIGHT ?
Your mistake is discussing with Adam. You make the mistake of seeing Adam as your intellectual equal and give him the benefit of the doubt. It’s best to ignore him and give his comments no credence. They mean nothing and carry no weight. If you try to have a debate with someone like him, he’ll drag you to his levels of foolishness and beat you with experience.

To quote a great man, “Lions do not ask the opinions of the sheep”.

I was intoxicated while playing the first one, so through headphones the experience was amazing. Excited to see how this one pans out.
lol, a TV show. Very depictive of their games. Walk and talk story, no gameplay.

Objectively, nope, but thats beside the point. It's more the fact that you predictably didn't decide to complain about the mostly walk and talk (to yourself), "no gameplay" of Hellblade:

Naughty Dog games + Hellblade are mostly walk and talk. Not much gameplay. This is why the show comment. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them both. Great story/narrative, just neither had much gameplay.

Graphics are out of this world. It lookks to be the next ryse though.

I mean, how many years since this was announced? And still see minimal gameplay. I'm pretty sure it'll be all looks little substance (gameplay wise, dunno about story).

Why is there so much salt in this thread, I don't get it.

Anyway, puzzles and combat was my complaint about the first one. But I read a long time ago that NJ was aware that these were issues to prioritize for the sequel. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't make it worse.

Edit: Not NJ but NT

I just don’t understand why they didn’t build off the combat/gameplay they had in Heavenly Sword?
It's simply because they went for a feeling of physics being grounded by realism. Floaty swift unrealistic combat was always out of the question. And so they created a dilemma for themselves as very few games have ever been able to do realistic melee combat without making it feel sluggish. But even so, there was plenty of room to improve the combat in HB1, so here's hoping..

While i admire the technical capabilities and the amount of work behind the game, this looks depressing and uninteresting to me.

That's why I never played the first one. Why would I want to play a game with a disturbing looking woman about 'mental health' - no thanks.

Platform war bullshit aside, you can't deny how beautiful and incredible this trailer was, very well put together.
The throat singing at around 1:45 leading to some fighting scenes, just perfect.

Never played the first one but this got me interested.

Still my most anticipated game, trailer looked great. Personally I'm glad they're not going to revolutionize the gameplay, I loved the first game for the atmosphere & the visuals.

No need to be patronising. But it's clear this game is made to virtue signal and win progressive points rather than to have broad appeal as a game.

It is literally the sequel to the original game........The game that was highly praised from many. It was an indie darling and this is a sequel to it. Nothing more really.

I enjoyed the first so I am looking forward to this.

HELLBLADE 2 is amazing being a linear game!

Is it possible to make that level graphic in an open world? I mean, Ghost of Tsushima 2 or even another Halo?

This game is Microsoft's D2. I swear the original documents for this game are under a sewer in Italy next to the m2 version of D2.

But they already had that part nailed down with the first game. If they don’t vastly improve combat and puzzles you gotta start to wonder what in the world they’ve been wasting time on.
They've already announced improvements to the combat last year. I'm just glad they're not taking a completely different direction with the game to make that happen.

Let's be honest, after the Xbox fanbase hyped the game up like Xbox already won this gen after the Hellblade announcement, they probably have to give visuals priority to meet the expectations.

Combat was pretty good in Hellblade though, so I imagine they made it more fluid.

I thought it was a great showing, much better than the crappy previous ones. Visuals was off the chart. Best looking game from the Awards show hands down. I'm a little wary though, haven't played the first due to it looking quite boring to play, so I guess it will be similar here. But it's on Game pass so definitely subbing for a month to check this one out, only for the graphics. If I like it I buy it.

Sure but do the visuals really take all the manpower though? They obviously already have more than enough know-how in that area, they made the original on a low budget and it was one of the best looking games released back then.

Good visuals is like THE area I’d think they’d be able to work most efficiently.

It was serviceable for a low budget indie game, and the focus back then was not on the combat but rather everything else about the game that felt very unique (setting, themes etc.).

And the puzzles were pretty bad, although also serviceable given the restrictions.

To me this feels kind of like a ‘A Plauge Tale’ scenario. The first title was fantastic because it was unexpected, the second was pretty bad because it did the exact same thing again and improved next to nothing.

Hopefully we’ll get a lot more promising footage going forward. I’m keeping my fingers crossed at least.

Try the first game in a dark room with headphones, it really is a unique experience. combat is very repetitive but the atmosphere more than makes up for it
