Metal Gear Solid Master Collection |OT| Les Ports Terribles

The low resolution splitter face paint in MGS3 really bothers me. Others and no paint option look much better. Just compare the beard. At first I thought that maybe they have fixed it when watching the opening cutscene but it still looks bad when you start playing.

They are aware of multiple issues within the games and seem to be in the process of patching out these issues. Hopefully the face paint resolution issue will be fixed as well.

Its an old issue from the HD Collection so I have a feeling that they won't change it.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Little details.

In MGS2 after the opening cutscene Snake will have 1 tranquilizer dart missing from his M9 because he used in to shoot out the light in the Cutscene.

But if you skip the Cutscene he will start with a full magazine.

I'm half way through Metal Gear (1987). Actually enjoying it but I need to reference a video guide every now and then as the game is a maze. Just beat the Hind D.

People like to dunk on Kojima for his cinematics and storytelling and what he helped usher into the industry, but those same people are quick to forget he was as dedicated to game play systems, sandboxes and details like the on you mentioned.

Ahh I see... well, as TGO has pointed out, they seem to have actually fixed/corrected some issues that were previously in the HD collection so there's a chance they could fix other ones moving forward.

This release seems like it was released a little "hot" out the oven, so to speak.

I've lost count how many times I'm played MGS2 but with every playthrough I found something new or something has changed.
It's amazing how much heart & soul went into those games which would be considered Nextgen if you saw them in games today because no does it.
Also glad they didn't remove this & the trophy is still for it 👍

Edit
As I was staying, always something new
See the top corner, I just hiding behind that when that guard on the floor was walking and down and press the L2 button to peak out

See the pipe on the floor, It was against the that wall and I knocked it over and alerted the guard 😐
It's the little things!

So basically stick with the 360 version on BC and replay the PSX version on the Vita?

The console version looks/runs worse than the 360 / PS3 versions

Where did he get that from?

I only know that sound is a bit messed up - compressed, clipping, sometimes with artifacts, some effects playing incorrectly etc. Not sure if all versions suffer equally from this.

But answering the question - it looks like MGS1 is the most broken one out of the whole collection - only 8 directional movement, input lag, bilinear filtering, sound issues.

As bad as the ports may be I really want to replay MGS1.
Not meaning to single you out, but it’s amazing how Nintendo is apparently ripping off people releasing their games on weak hardware and emulation is allegedly “the right way” to play them, and then Konami releases this and people are like there’s no other way on Earth to replay MGS.

Obviously you’re singling me out as you skipped over my post above where I said I am probably just going to play my digital PSX copy on the Vita.

Oh god, audio really is awfully compressed (check out ~2:25). At least on PC it will be fixable by mods, someone has to copy audio files from PS3 version.

To be fair the original MGS audio wasn’t the highest quality. That’s why they re-recorded everything for Twin Snakes.

Just booted up Metal Gear 2, this one I've never touched and already it feels/looks better than MG1, looking forward to the best one MGS though, hopefully some of the issues the PS5 version (if any) is fixed up by the time I've done with this and Alan Wake 2

I meant MGS 2&3, HD collection sounds much better.
Because those games were recorded in professional recording studios. MGS1 was recorded in a house with minimal proper equipment and lots of ambient noise. You can hear street traffic on some later-game audio clips.

The audio quality of the PS1 original is, to this day, pretty much unusable.

How do MGS3 aiming/shooting mechanics work without pressure sensitive buttons?
I think it's hold to aim, release to fire. B/circle to cancel aim.

Grab has a different button to kill and choke out.

I think it all works fine. I'm definitely not unintentionally killing people like I did in the OG.

I'm not comparing MGS1 to 2&3, I'm comparing 2&3 from Master Collection to 2&3 from HD Collection. For some reason Master Collection is badly compressed, Steam version at least. Check out the vid I linked from ~2:25.

EDIT: Someone compared audio files:

It's amazing how much heart & soul went into those games which would be considered Nextgen if you saw them in games today because no does it.

As is usually the case, the industry took the wrong lessons and pushed forward with presentation and cutting edge graphics and takes none of the risk in creating layered system and mechanical depth. And it is hard to blame them when the majority of enthusiast discussion revolves around framerates, resolutions and other graphical flourishes. It's why I'll always support a Kojima game day one, because even if I don't end up enjoying the game, I do respect the hell out of it and find it far more interesting than the vast majority of the AAA space. Death Stranding is the perfect example of this. It's not my cup of tea but it has the most interesting online feature set since Demon Souls.

You beat me. IGN’s digital foundry guy did a good job here. For a British to talk to this way, it’s basically an eloquent pummeling. I don’t even think Richard Leadbetter could top this and shouldn’t even try…

Btw apparently there is already a mod available for PC to enable 4K, although that probably doesn't fix the other problems.
