Microsoft has Closed the Activision Blizzard King Deal

My favourite bit of the speech Phil made was this:

For the millions of fans who love Activision, Blizzard, and King games, we want you to know that today is a good day to play. You are the heart and soul of these franchises, and we are honored to have you as part of our community. Whether you play on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, PC or mobile, you are welcome here – and will remain welcome, even if Xbox isn't where you play your favorite franchise. Because when everyone plays, we all win. We believe our news today will unlock a world of possibilities for more ways to play. Thank you for the ongoing support. We have so much more to come in the months ahead – I'm excited for the future and cannot wait to share it with you.

Bullshit Phil. Complete and utter bullshit and more reason why people shouldn't believe the shit some of these CEOs say, this man literally made Sony trade franchise's to ensure the most important ABK asset on PlayStation stayed on PlayStation. You chat shit Phil.

Future plans, the next publisher we intend to buy hahahaha.

Wonder if the next sony ceo will go acquisition hangry.
Soooo not the latest cod but surely they will make modern warfare 1 and 2 available on gamepass soon.

Which is fine. But there better not be a single Xbox fan whining about FF7remake, SF5 or any of that shit anymore.

I better not see a gawdamn peep from your filthy mouths!

Good, I just want Gamepass to be the best value proposition it can be. I'm the consumer, I couldn't give a shit about loyalty to a brand or a box, make the thing I pay you for better. I definitely won't be canceling Gamepass now, and I was going to before when it ran out. Guess it remains to be seen what all will be on it though.

How soon will MS starts this one: "Today we announced a our restructuring efforts for our upcoming financial quarter. This will allow all of our teams to realigning their strategy and focus on core business functionality and at the same time become laser focused on releasing quality content by bringing the full capabilities our family of studios to bear. While its always hard to say good bye to team members we will do our best to make sure all of our talent, even the ones who will be leaving, are positioned to do their best work!".

Glad that’s done and we can finally move on.

People are focusing on MS and what this means for their output, but looking at Sony and their output (or lack of output) this gen, they’re the ones who really need to start acquiring studios or they’re going to really struggle to keep up with MS and Nintendo. maybe that’s what the new CEO will focus on…

Finally! Actually thought it wouldn’t happen. Time to start hunting for cheap Gamepass subs again, current one ends sometime next year.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Core/Gold to GPU conversion is still the best way if you want a bulk conversion. Otherwise if you have the patience to do a few minutes daily, Rewards is the most cost effective way.

When did this happen?

this is a problem buying COD is not going to solve. Forza and Starfield just came out to middling reviews from critics. This is a CULTURE thing, not a studio thing

Forza and Starfield received scores in the mid-to-high 80s. Does that make Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Horizon: Forbidden West, Death Stranding, and Ghost of Tsushima “middling” too?

Besides all that, COD has reviewed in the 70s for years now and it hasn’t effected consumer interest at all.

‘Middling reviews’ for two games rated 85 and 83 on Metacritic? 😂

I’m old enough to remember all the posts here claiming Microsoft had nothing to do with games like Psychonauts 2 and Starfield.

Pentiment, Grounded, HiFi Rush, Forza Horizon 5, Flight Sim et al landed with great critic reception. Let’s keep these conversations honest, shall we?

10 years from now this will be seen as yet another failed acquisition that a company paid way too much for and whose identity and brand has completely eroded

All in the name of career moment empire building power fantasies
I’ll be close to 60 by that time, I’ll just load up on cheap subs and will enjoy cheap gaming as long as I can still do it. Might finally check out how much has happened to Call of Duty since the one I bought near the 360 launch.

metacritic and opencritic are only part of the equation- gamers matter too. There is a major difference in the sort of conversation a game like fucking Spider-Man gets compared to Starfield. Look at this forum. Look at the videos. Look at the user scores of both games on Steam. Metacritic will have you believe these are games on the same tier.... they're not

All these studios and still can't pump out games on a regular basis it's actually quite sad. I know this is a long term strategy but in the short term you can have all that and really don't mean much if you have nothing to show for it.

They’ve put out 5 first party games this year from their studios…

‘Nothing to show from it’ is a truly lazy effort. This ain’t 2022
