Uh...what? Quick Resume has been a feature of PlayStation consoles since the PS4 lol. Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying. It wasn't something that was added on a game-by-game basis. It won't work with online only games or in online modes of games, for obvious reasons.

The activity cards still don't make much sense to me, but I never gave it much time. Some kind of developer bookmarked quick resume? Seems like a bad idea to back out of the game and reference out of game materials to figure out what you want to do.

Dual sense was a nice addition, but I kind of hate resistance triggers now.
Understanding activity cards or why they are there isn't that hard of a concept, though. They are "shortcuts" to specific activities or areas in a game.

Quick Resume (capital R) is a new feature for Xbox this gen. It creates a quick save for 5-6 games at a time that you can resume whenever you want. I'm not talking about just putting the console in rest mode on PS4. There was no quick resume on PS4.

And even your description of the cards is still weird to me. So if you're in Demon's Souls and you're stuck somewhere and don't want to die and lose your souls, you can exit the game and use a card to get warped to a different part of the game? I still don't get it.

Actually, the ability to suspend a game and resume it in the state you left it in has been available since the PS4/Xbox One (i.e., you can suspend one game and return to it, or in current terminology, you can quick resume one game only). Being able to do this with multiple games now doesn't change what the feature is. If you really want to use the "marketing" name to say it's something else, that's fine, but my point was that you can do that for one game for the systems being discussed. So I was clarifying that.

As for the activity card feature, no, it will not return you to the "last state" of the game, it will only be a quick shortcut to a specific area or level, depending on how the game is structured/designed.

Lol. Stop getting hung up on the marketing name that has now been assigned to a feature that has existed since the previous generation (one game only). The only key difference is that we can do it with multiple games on the Series consoles. On PS5, it is still one game. I am NOT saying the old consoles could do it with multiple games. I was just using the current name since that is what we are calling it for ease, but in hindsight, using the marketing name did more damage to what I was trying to say than I had anticipated.

What threw me off was how you said you vaguely remembering them adding that in, so I just wanted to say it has been there since the start (well, maybe not right at launch, so I guess that is why you said "vaguely"). I will take back using the word 'quick resume' to describe it since that clearly didn't help. 😂

It is a different feature from having only one game suspended, it has nothing to do with "drinking the marketing kool aid" it's simply a different feature, and actually the best new feature from this gen.

I already acknowledged in a later post and with some edits where I erred in using the marketing term retroactively, but if we really must go there, then I will insist on saying that the word "Quick Resume" alone does not signify the "number" of games suspended. It simply describes the fact that you can return to the last state of a game. To go on the extreme, and only for examples sake, if I suspend only one game on my Series console, are you saying I am not using the 'quick resume' feature?

I mean, come on. lol.

I was focusing on the outcomes vs how it is handled on the system end and for the discussion that was being had, the one that I was responding to, for the example being given, the resume feature of the PS4 would suffice even if it wouldn't work in a power outage scenario. I do understand that the implementation of the feature is better on the Series consoles. I still wouldn't call the PS4/5 version of it Rest Mode because that does not indicate games are suspended. Rest mode is basically like 'standby' mode. One of the things that the Rest Mode allows is the ability to resume a game; but don't get me wrong, I get what you are saying.

The only reason I said anything was due to your confusion on how/when it was added in. I made the assumption that you didn't have a PS4 or play much on it and ofcourse, erred in trying to retroactively use the terminology that MS uses for their suspend games feature.

Rest mode is still super handy. I used it constantly on PS4, PS5, 3DS, Switch. I definitely played a ton on PS4.

What I was speculating about was PS5 and whether or not they have actually added in a save state ability similar to the way Quick Resume works, but only for one game at a time. I'm still unsure if it's in there.

I never believed in the activity cards and game help since most devs weren't gonna take spend much time on that anyway.

Dualsense was absolutely amazing in Astro's Playroom and unfortunately has never come close to reaching that level again. They are still plenty of games that use it pretty well though like Hogwarts right now.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, the activity card feature and the landing page resume options aren't at all like that. If you see the landing page show 'Resume Activity' for a game, that just means to your last save. But the activity cards, in a game like Sackboy Adventure, will let you jump quickly into a level at the start. In Destiny 2, you can use it to go straight to the Tower area but it does stop you at the character selection screen to ask you which character.

They are called gimmicks and yes manufacturers should stop bothering with them. Just make a good console, which is power efficient and runs well without hardware issues.

They changed that? That's lame. That was kinda the point, lol. You could quickly bypass all that and jump straight into the game area/activity. Also, after launching a game, the next time it wouldn't make you go through all that, even on a new launch but maybe that is changed too. I will have to check it out later today.

No, you can launch a game normally without the logos (for some games) but for the majority of games with activity cards, you have you sit through them.

I use activity cards a lot because they have a checkpoint system similar to quick resume, meaning that you can switch between games without having to go through the main menus…

Agreed. This has been a weakness for them since the PS3 days, they add cool stuff to their OS but leave it to the developers to decide if they want to add it which they almost never do. Happened with in game music and almost happened with trophies until they finally made it mandatory.

The worst offender for me is the controller, because it adds new features that will be ditched by developers at top of others already ditched like gyroscope, tactile panel or analog front buttons. Now the Dual Sense controller cost 70€ but half of the features that justify that cost are not used by developers.

The Dualsense is a graveyard of gimmicks.

The activity cards are not useless, i use them in almost every game that supports them properly. The issue is devs not properly using them, in the last of us and GOW they are AMAZING.

The dualsense is also used well in a lot of games, dunno what you're on
How do they even work? I'd use them if I knew how. I just started Forbidden West and I bet I can use them there.

Just because of the adaptive triggers, DualSense has become such a transformative experience for me that it's even the deciding factor in buying a multiplatform on the PS5 over the SeriesX, even if in some cases the PS5 version may look or run a little worse. The only times I don't do that is if the game is released day one on Gamepass. I agree that the Activity Cards have not been well utilized. I really only use them when a game includes one to continue with the most recent save game.

Gotcha. I kinda figured that but wanted to confirm. Activity cards are still different from quick resume in the sense that you are not returned to the last state of a game; it depends on how the game itself is designed. You can jump quickly into the next level, a specific level, a specific area, the next chapter, or, if the game has multiple quests, a specific quest, but how that is set up is up to the developer. But yeah, definitely a shame that it does not do that for every game (bypass intros, logos, etc.)

This is completely pointless feature if I can say so myself. How many games at the same time do I play?
This would be useful last gen maybe but this gen, with games starting very fast and activity cards? No need for multiple games quick resume really.

Then there’s de DualSense. The PS5 came with Astro Playground installed for the purpose of showcasing what the controller can do. It was amazing! However, there are so many games that doesn’t use the controller not even a fraction of its capabilities.

The only game that I feel uses it 100% like Astro did, is Control.

You are correct! I have not played Returnal. However, that’s the thing! It shouldn’t be one game and other here and there. It should be all! Of course if the game justifies not using it based on gameplay, story or whatnot it’s fine.

Sony does amazing features! But never use them! It really feel like the games using them are an exception, and should be there other way around.

I quite like the haptics and the speaker.

The triggers are just annoying, feels like a normal trigger with grit in the mechanism or something.

I forgot the activity cards were even a thing.
