Redfall Is Always Online Even In Single-Player, Bethesda Confirms

ANDS

King of Gaslighting
Gaas strikes again. Prob some sort of loot system or people can jump in and out of your game.

. . .so you basically haven't followed the game but are now totally willing to discuss it with some authority.

Have they got Donald Trump, Bolsonaro and Margaret Thatcher as downloadable characters or something?

Nah. It just isn't all Chad's. So immediately "woke" and of lower quality.

Holy Christ this is fantastic.

I didn't care about GT7 and I don't care about this game having no true offline. Some games just don't have offline modes. I'd rather developers focus on polish and a good game than designing for offline play.

I am surprised that anyone cares about this.

Basically translates into "Doesn't matter for me so it shouldn't matter for anyone else." Not everyone has stable internet/data caps and things happen to where the internet can cut out.

Ah, lets see how this gets treated.
Last year it was a problem for GT7. But pretty sure the tone and narrative will change now that an Xbox game is doing it…..
No, this is still a problem. I don't like this at all even though I'm 99% of time online as quick resume doesn't work with always online games. This is the most disappointing info I've heard about this game. I'll still play it as I have played the division 2 but I'd prefer it's different.

I am fairly engaged with video game culture and visit and post here, look at vg news, follow accounts on twitter and I just don't recall unstable connections or data caps being much of a problem recently and as such honestly didn't think that it was a problem - I know people used to talk about download sizes of games and how data caps made that difficult, but I haven't heard of it in a long time. I know some people are passionately against always online, but I thought the angle on always online was that you couldn't play a game if the servers were off or you'd never truly own it, how would you play it in 40 years, which you can still do with an Atari and pac man, etc. I can understand those points, but it just doesn't really bother me.

Does your internet connection or data cap stop you from playing or downloading or updating games? I'm sorry to hear it if so.

EDIT: So disappointing to get a notification only to find it's something from Ezekiel.

A Bethesda.net account is required.”
Welp, that sucks. In that case I won’t even bother to play it. Make your game work with the Xbox account I already have.

Every game that requires a different account to play is a insta-delete for me.

I have the same stance now as I have always had. I don't care that it is "2023" whatever that is supposed to mean. Always online for a single player game mode is anti-consumer. Doesn't matter what justification people want to come up with. If for some reason an individual does not have access to the internet, regardless of an hour, a day or a week, preventing them from playing a single player game mode that they purchased is ridiculous.

One thing i hope these devs do whatever the game gt7, redfall etc. is release a patch before closing down the servers to remove the online requirement, assuming of course the single player isn't competley reliant on online, i think for gt7 it was for checking for cheating? Removing that years down the line, most people won't care someone cheating in offline. Redfall remains to be seen what the reason is for the singleplayer needing online. That's the first thing i'd be thinking of before putting in these always online requirments.

Like Borderlands 3. Hopefully I'll find someone to play with that doesn't just run off to the other side of the map to do who knows what.
I only played Borderlands by myself anyway so would rather have something to run and gun with on the Steam Deck. Looks like thats not happening now.

I mean .. sure .. this isn't as big of a deal as it was 5 years ago.

I don't know how much this game relies on dailies/weeklies kinda things, but that might be one of the reason even in SP.
It is still a big deal. One of the biggest advantage of single player is longevity. Now it is going to die when the server turns off.

If you only play multiplayer games then it makes no difference to you. But people who play single player does it for a reason, one of which is the ability to keep playing.

Yeah, I hope most studios have a plan for that but I honestly expect nothing. Far Cry 3 can be played offline but constantly tries to connect to a sever for news or some shit. Now that the server has been shutdown you frequently have your gameplay interrupted as the game tries to connect to that server. It's fucking god awful.

Had it more than one time that I played Hitman and suddenly there is a popup window which informs me, that the server is not available, so I cannot get any achievements. That is just stupid and should not be my problem as a player. Cache this information somewhere and save it to the server, when it is available again.

Even games with an online part should do it that way. I played gta online a week ago, payed 100k credits to change my character. Before I could finish my adjustments, I got a connection error with the rockstar servers and got kicked off the character editor. When I came back online, the 100k were gone, but my adjustments did not go into effect.
I don’t see, why the game cannot handle stuff like that in some kind of save file and push it to the servers, when they have a connection again.

Don’t see the big deal for requiring online. Complaining about not having internet is like complaining about not having electricity to power up your console.

I have internet 24x7, so all good here. I am only interested in single player anyway. But for those that don't have internet, that blows.

No biggie, game looks like shit to me so I wasn't going to play it anyways.

Kinda weird that they require it for single-player, must be a technical reason (bad design) because I can't think of anything else.

Crying about always online in 2023? Who cuts off the internet after downloading a game?
The only game I play more online than offline is GT7 and I think the online requirement for it is terrible and I'm not making excuses but I can at least still race on 36 different tracks and choose multiple layouts offline

Once upon a time I thought that this would be a non issues. Then I had to move for various reasons and came across a bunch of scenarios where I did not have internet. Making me have to tether my phone just so I could play some of these single player games or some other work around. There really needs to be a way to make it so that there is an offline mode for at least single player purposes. Doesn't have to be permanent but like a check in like how EGS does once a month or like xbox app is like every 24 hours(I think).

I was vocal about this in the GT7 thread and will be here as well. This is fucking stupid. If i want to play a single player game i should not have any requirement for an online connection. I know the argument every always throws out these, "its 2023 if you dont have a stable internet connection blah blah blah" Guess what internet goes out sometimes, additionally like what happend with GT7 if thier servers are fucked you cant play your game (single player) when you want after paying a premium. Utter bullshit.
