Facebook and Instagram told to lift ban on breasts

What should be permitted on social media

An interesting development due to the ongoing debate about gender etc. The gist of it is that people who have transitioned from Female to Male or visa versa want to be able to post pictures of thier bare naked chests on social media.

But this technically breaks most current social media rules about what is permitted. Currently naked Male chests are considered fine bit Female chests are not.

And the recent development is that the Oversight board for Meta ruled that this policy does not make sense anymore. Because it is trans exclusive. And they recommended this policy be dropped.

Ok, serious question - a 14-year old chad posting naked chest from the gym is fine right? So by the same logic if a 14-year old girl posts a topless pic...

I work in software, it's hilarious how Meta takes what is an 'edge case' (a situation that has little likelihood to happen) and decides to change their whole policy and processes to acommodate.

Taking an edge case and making drastic changes describes the entire concept of identity politics.

Fuck it, why not.

As mentioned above, kids aren't idiots. If they have access to a computer/phone there is a 99.9% chance they can see boobs elsewhere if they really want, even with parental filters in place.

Maybe I'll change my mind on it later. But I can already see boobs with blurred/covered nipples on Instagram within the TOS. Anyone really give a shit? Don't give your kid a smartphone if you don't want them looking up boobs. They'll still find a way to see them anyway. Better to teach them about the difference between exposed breasts and porn yourself at an appropriate age.

If they're on Instagram they've already seen breasts somewhere.

If you don't want your kids to see breasts, you don't give them a cellphone.
Tbh you're probably right, I was on Instagram, and started scrolling trending videos and the amount of breast feeding stuff is quite strange imo.

"This stuff"? We're talking about breasts, right? What's so terrible about breasts that kids shouldn't see them?
Is that an American issue?
I'm not American. 🤷‍♂️

That being said I deactivated my Facebook many years ago, due to the amount of horrific gory stuff you would stumble across.

You would see people set on fire in the streets, and some poor dude that got hit by a car, he went flying and was bleeding horribly from his head.

It just made me feel sad/sick seeing that stuff.

You report it to Facebook and apparently it violates no terms.

OK, people set on fire is not cool. The internet can be such a nasty place.
I thought we were talking about breasts. Breasts are good people!

Wait a minute. What about GAF then? If posting boobs will be acceptsble on instagram and fb, then why shouldn't.we do it on GAF too? Think of the traffic the site will get

Friendship ended with Twitter now Facebook is my best friend.
Well unlikely, since Twitter allows for fully nude photos for a long time. Or I don't know if they allow it fully, just that they ignore it. I've learn a lot in past year war twittering.

I don't really care either way, but I thought all the corpos were wringing their hands over suitable, clean, family friendly content which can be associated with monetized ads? What will Proctor and Gamble do now?!

Told by fucking who? Angry little cliques online pretending to be representative of the entirety of whatever thing that they're currently making look terrible? If this warrants a headline every time someone says titties should be on Facebook then I expect no less than 60 pieces on me based on the entirety of my online life.

A lot of kids are about to have their first exposure to titties online on Facebook or Instagram now (a site their parents probably think is safe from this stuff) aha.
Not to pile on too hard onto the rebuttals, but I just wanted to add on to other points that kids are more likely to look at tiktok and youtube 9 times out of 10 than facebook and instagram. Every time I've heard any kid in my extended family mention any social media, they consider facebook an ancient relic of the past, and some of them literally only have an account on it because their older family members(like grandparents) only want to communicate with them through it.

There have been quite a few rumors stating that the reason Zuckerberg doubled down on VR was because of the fear of both potentially dying and nothing from Meta being able to replace them.

I feel like Facebook now is nothing but old people and midwestern single moms sharing inspirational quotes about overcoming anxiety. Completely anecdotal, of course. And if they want to also show their tits that’s entirely within their right.
