Edit: I can't update the list right now, but I'll try to do it later.

Console Launches are sparse. I'd say often with less than 10 really interesting games or less. PSVR2 is looking as good or better than least some on this list. But which ones?

If the lists are inaccurate, please let me know and I will update.

I was going to pick a few of the most notable from each, but it's probably best to leave that up to you.

Perhaps consider that you only liked some of these games after you got to try them or look into them more closely. All these launches
have sleepers mixed in.

Questions:

Is a VR remake/full game mode more valuable than a cross gen upgrade? You decide, but i'd really like to hear your opinion on this.

Do you already own any vr hardware? This is all in the eye of the beholder so I imagine that would make a big difference in your opinion.

I can't say I will own them all day one for PSVR 2 but I will buy

Horizon Call of the Mountain
Kayak VR: Mirage
Resident Evil Village (free upgrade)
GT7 (free upgrade)
Switchback
Star Wars

I have to check out trailers for the rest

But yes the launch lineup can stand toe to toe with the others 😍

This may sound crazy, but that Kayak VR game is one of my most anticipated this year.

I haven't heard a ton about it... but so far I've heard that it's dull for vr vets. Some things like that can be great for new people, tho. It's been out on pc, so I could look and I suppose I'm being willfully ignorant lol. It wouldn't be the first time I slept on something good but in this case it's way down my list compared to the other stuff. Show me more of a waverace clone and we're talking...

It’s a decent lineup of games for sure. I can’t really justify spending too much on games after paying for the PSVR2, so it’s great that at least 3 will have a free upgrade - GT7, NMS and RE:V.

If you remove all of PSVR2's launch games that have already been available on other platforms for some time that lineup looks less amazing to me. They announced Beat Saber with all this fanfare and I was like I already played it forever ago. Same with Star Wars, Pistol Whip, Runner... So much of the list is kind of meh if you've been in VR for a while since you probably already played a lot of it.

The first party offerings look good, though. Not quite worth the price of admission for me yet but they'll get there. That glimpse of GT7 looked great!

Yo, what? A guy just said it's coming for like a minute while the title card hung silently in the back. It's far from top billing but there was some questions about this popular game making it because of meta and that announce was a pretty low key acknowledgement.

You could say the same about each consoles launch lineup to be honest, which is really the point of the thread. Personally, I haven’t played any of the VR games in that lineup, so for me it looks great.

Gears 5, Forza Horizon 4 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps were all out before the Series X launch I believe

I thought all 3 had pretty serious upgrades. On par with any average cross-gen sku. But actually did ori? I remember a 120fps mode which would probably mean some other stuff like resolution or load times.

It's surprising to me that Sony hasn't tasked Naughty Dog to do something in VR, TLOU, for instance, seems rife with possibilities to do cool stuff in the space. Not only does it seem like a good fit, pace-wise, but it seems like the kinda thing that would help move hardware, as long as it's not a greatly compromised experience.

100% and there’s no question or argument about it unless you’re talking to someone who either hasn’t tried VR, or is simply a VR hater.

Best example is something like Gran Turismo 7. The game on PS5 compared to PS4 is pretty much the same experience but with the PS5 version having more QoL features such as faster loading times, better haptics, etc.

However, the whole Gran Turismo 7 experience in VR is simply going to be transformative.

They might be. Even probably are. But they may be working on things that are quite far away.

The lineup is better than what I expected. GT7 alone would suffice for months (waited for VR), but add to that Horizon and Resident Evil 8 (waited), plus games like Kayak, Switchback, Moss 2, the update for No Man's Sky and I can be occupied for the entire year.

The only obvious game missing is Half Life Alyx, but that could come later.

Im really hoping for a Astrobot Playroom 2 reveal before it comes out!

The first one is what got me and my friends and family into VR in the first place.
And the first one is not BC so we are without a fun couch game to demo all the tricks of the headset.
I've got the horizon bundle preordered.

I am sceptical about Horizon given the on rails combat shown so far. Not a fan of that, but it does look amazing and if it is received well I may bite.

I don’t own GT7 or NMS so may check them out if I can get them on sale (unsurprisingly these games are no longer on sale).

RE8 - looks good but I am a wimp and not a massive fan of horror games.

TWD Saints and Sinners looks like a great use of VR.

Kayak VR looks amazing but I can see the novelty wearing off and being left with a dull game used only to show friends.

Regarding Half Life Alyx, I don’t understand why valve wouldn’t port it over since it can be played with other non valve headsets on the PC, right?

Eh nothing really to get moist about besides horizon vr so far for me. Maybe re 8 vr and gt7 i guess.
Im one of the few people who didnt care for re 7 vr. The image quality was so poor i felt like i was playing a 3ds game. Also not a fan of teleporting movement, standing in place while your char moves in vr is even worse. Hopefully the psvr 2 will have much better image quality.

Im hoping theres a vr version of the show. Namco, sega, konami can prob have a 1:1 sales rate for their light gun games made in vr if they would ever get off their asses. How can something so logical not even be rumored in the works.

I don’t think image quality will be an issue based on what has been shown.

Also, teleporting? Is that a thing in RE8? It looks like free movement to me.

Its a in game movement mechanic in alot of vr games to simulate walking. Since most people are stationary when playing vr, when you char moves in the vr space its very uncomforable. So alot of vr games have this mechanic were you point to the location to want to move to and you get "teleported" there.

I use both but somewhat prefer teleporting, now. It's a paradigm shift in movement, not to mention weird, but I think it lets the body presence shine through. Doesn't matter if you are playing in a two car garage, you can't just walk everywhere. You will have to manage your position in your playspace to some degree. Not that it's insurmountable or even a big deal. Point being teleporting chops the walking right out. It's a solution with it's own merits, and not just a compromise for comfort.

Now that i think of it sony is sitting on a treasure trove of potential vr bangers.

Jumping flash in vr
Warhawk vr
Motostorm vr
Lair vr
Resistance vr
Media molecule vr game
Shadow of collosus/ico/last guardian vr - man imagine scaling those structures in vr!
Quantum dream heavy rain/detroit human esque narrative type game in vr

Its not the walking/movement space/length but i believe its the nausea caused by your brain/body when you are physcially in place and vr tricking it with the sensation of movement that alot of people get nauseous from. The byproduct of shortening the in game walking length is a nice bonus though. For whatever reason this only happens during walking sequences in vr for alot of people. Movement in a vehicle or on rails is fine doesnt seem to have this effect.

@op: In regards to quality.. - Apples to oranges comparison until there's a president for 3rd person games to release along side vr and for those to have 1st person view in VR. Especially regarding quality of titles.

The cool thing is that good games can turn into fantastic video games titles in VR. Skyrim being my favorite example.

It's ok, a lot listed are already put as a vr or non vr title on other systems, so it really comes down to exclusives. Right now there is what, 1 game (horizon) on that list you can't play another way or another system? Obviously gt7 is a draw to some people but it can be played other ways. Not sure fantavision moves the needle.

All the classic lightgun shooters rely on a controlled field of view though. Their designs wouldn't really work with player freedom to look wherever they like.

It cannot be played anywhere except SteamVR though this is the thing that's overlooked, if you use an oculus device your not buying or loading it from the oculus store, your buying it on steam and playing it through SteamVR. I guess the question is if psvr2 ends up running on a pc somehow, and you can then play HLA on SteamVR with a psvr2 do you consider this a psvr2 port? because those other VR devices only work with HLA becuse they have SteamVR support.

The results of this poll are hilarious. The launch lineup is dogshit compared to basically any recent console launch due to missing all of the big titles that usually hit launch, Cod, Sports games, whatever Ubisoft is doing. By comparison it’s a AAA wasteland

The launch lineup is only dogshit if you're narrow minded and only play CoD, Sports, Ubisoft. No thanks. I have a console if I want to play that garbage.

But Sony releases games on Steam all the time now. They do a lot of business together. I dunno why Valve wouldn't return the favor for one game.

I played 7 in VR and I don't think it had teleporting but as an option it's fine for people that like or need it.

A bunch of viewable videos on this page. Plus a written list of things coming.

Amazing everything that will launch. I still have No mans sky and didn't realize. Also have RE8 and GT7 but buying Horizon day 1 anyway.

It's really a lot of software. Sony put some muscle behind it this time.

PSVR2 lineup is great.

Too many good titles too play at launch and then you throw in other flat titles launching that month too.

Why don't Sony put HorizonVR on Steam then if they are so in bed together? Sony are putting their old catalog on PC for their own benefit not Valves. If Sony could hit the PC userbase steam allows them to without having to use steam they would in a heartbeat. Do you think the reason RE8 VR isn't coming to pc is because capcom don't care about the bigger VR userbase they could hit with a pc port with such similar VR devices now or do you think Sony may have handed them a cheque to make it psvr2 exclusive and not allowed on Steam? Could things like that be a reason why valve havn't ported it?

PSVR2 has some strong exclusives with Horizon, GT7 and RE8. They would all be well received on Steam, but they are never going there.

It's sad "and probably shame on me I dunno" but I only know like....4 games out of the list ?

Horizon, GT7, Beat Saber and Resident Evil Village lol

hopefully, the VR OT will have at least a trailer for these games so people can take a look if they fancy any of these games. would be a great idea.

Also, buying this will depend ( for me anyway ). if I can play with the VR natively on my PC. I would rather play beat saber with the mods on PC rather than the limited experience on PS5, BUT, I would play the exclusive games on PS5 ( like GT7, Horizon, and RE8 ?)

If it's not going to be supported properly with VR on Steam I am out. not spending 800$ Canadian on a headset the same price as PS5 for the small library and locked walled garden.

And yet it benefits Valve as they take a 30% cut, whereas they get 100% on a PlayStation

Maybe horizon will come to SteamVR? It wouldn’t shock me

It’s alright but it feels like I’ve already played or decided not to play 95% of the games on that list. I guess it all depends on how much better the image quality and haptic are now. For me there is a big risk it’ll just lay on a shelf within a couple months so I won’t be there at launch this time, I’ll check impressions though and will try to test it if I ever get the chance. GT7 could be phenomenal combined with a good racing wheel, that’s the sleeper hit I think, no problem with a cable since you’re seated anyway and I’ve been wanting GT on PC for triple screen support and VR is the next level upgrade.

well they take 20% if they sell enough and they also release these at full price which no one on ps is going to pay for these games after a year so even with a 20% to 30% fee they are probably more profitable for sony at that time then what they get on their own platform. They may have even got them in a subscription by that time. I take it my re8 question didn't have any unrealistic ideas seeing that didn't get a reply.

It's not difficult to top most consoles to be honest, especially xbox. I can't think of a launch lineup since the 360 or even the original Xbox that was great. So yeah, pretty much easy mode there. Even still, the PS consoles aren't doing way better either in terms of launch. Being able to play the full game of GT7 in VR is fucking next level shit at launch.

Im thinking more of like remakes. Im sure they still make it work by keeping them on rails like until dawn "roller coaster" style.

The lineup doesn't look very exciting to me, but my interest in VR is minimal. I could change my mind if Half-Life Alyx was on that list, that's one of the few VR-only games I'm dying to play.
