I had no intention of following through with my preorder but with the positive impressions and gt7 I may have to actually leave it.......
Not sure how I'll pay for it though.....

I can't remember, did they say they will have a 2d mode to play non vr games on this?

I don't think they've mentioned it but seems like it would have to be there.

I'm looking forward to that, too. Since this has inside-out and it's higher resolution, it will be more usable as a second screen than the first one was. Usually I would use a monitor for that; when I don't want to hog the tv but I'm obsessed with something grindy and no end in sight. I think I would rather still use a monitor but I'll give the headset a shot next time it comes up.

One thing that many don't mention is that the PSVR2 also does HDR which from my understanding no other headset does (unless I am mistaken). I know the Quest 2 does not.

The other thing I am really interested in is how comfortable it is. IMHO I thought the PSVR1 was the most comfortable headset made to date. My Quest 2 is a lot better since I have a new head strap.

I am still undecided if I will get this. I need to hear more about some of the games, especially GT7. On the original PSVR1 the GT game on that was a gimped version of the game...so I hope they share some details soon.

I found good news and bad news from playstation blog last year......

"In Cinematic Mode, players can view the PS5 system and UI and all non-VR game and media content on a virtual cinema screen. Content in Cinematic Mode will be displayed in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate."​


Not sure why you limit it to 1080P, that's disappointing.. why if there is 4000 pixels across and 4000 vertically, can't it do 4k? (3840 x 2160?) Is it really more like 2K? But then why not 1440p? This would be far better for games than 1080p in a "giant" virtual monitor.


Edit: Nevermind, I think I figured it out, due to the wide FOV, many of the pixels won't be used for the "virtual" screen. I think we still need higher res panels then......for stuff like this!

The virtual screen will always occupy a lot less pixels than are in the headset display. Compared to a real tv, it won't be that sharp. 1080 is probabaly enough.

I'm not so sure about that, it kind of echo's real life in terms of display size vs pixels, if you are sitting 15ft from a 120" 1080p display it's not enough pixels. I suppose I shouldn't be shocked as it appears like that on the Quest 2 (at least for me) and it's a similar pixel count.

It more like, if you were sitting 2' from that tv and you had to shrink the image so you could see a reasonable amount of it without moving your head. We take your 4k image and scale it down till it's just floating in the middle of the screen. You are sitting really close to it, and it looks blurry even if it's 4k. The 4k video is being displayed on way less than 4k's worth of pixels. 1080p may not look much different squeezed down like that.

Have they stated how bright it gets? The reason I ask is "hdr" at 400 nits isn't really hdr, whereas if they are offering it 1000 nits then it's a real feature.

When you need a 500 peripheral to go with your 500 console on top of your 1000 TV I'm out.

I can't see this being the upgrade ppl imagine.

10 mins on 1 game isn't going to convince me, and the fact he's selling you on 10 mins of playtime is a bit telling.

Same with reports talking about how good the Tesla Vegas loop was, until it gets crowded. Plus all the tesla still had drivers which makes it inefficient.

The ultimate ps5 upgrade would for me be a ps5 Pro at 500 or even 600 dollars in a year or so.

I don't see how a VR headset with limited games can be seen as an upgrade to the ps5 but OK I guess.

You only need to set this up once, unless you’re passing it between friends which could then become a little bothersome.

This I guess is for eye distance and eyeball size. I wonder if they can do some kind of iris recognition with saved profiles when you wear the headset.

It was mentioned there was tons of bluetooth interference there, which would get the controllers.

They might have a limited tracking range and have to guess the position when behind the headset or too far over your head. That's fine with me. I'm assuming they will track nice and steady when in the range of the cameras. This technique is not new and sony does not seem to be skimping on stuff for this one.

That was one of the main issues with the first one. Cost cutting. It should have had it's own controllers and a second simple camera to place in the room. Trying to keep the cost down was a reasonable bet in a pre-quest world. Too bad that clashed with the other issue of the time: headset tech improving so quickly. It's still going fast, but not as fast as it was then. aNow with the quest covering the cheaper and more accesible (and probabaly bigger) end of the market, the higher end side is wide open for sony.

Some are balking at $550 but it's actually a screaming deal for what you get. It's even a good deal if you want to include a ps5 and make it $950 turn-key compared to a headset with an equivalant pc. I think including the cost of the ps5 or pc isn't reasonable tho. Very few people are going to go out and buy the ps5 or pc just for the vr. These vr sets are for people who already have that kind of gear.

Use Affirm to finance and pay back later. That's if you're OK with doing something like that.
