just FYI, you will never see the card at the price of 800$ in your life outside of the first release which will probably be 10 cards as is required by Nvidia to have some ray one

the rest of the cards will be 850$ + ( if we are lucky ).

just saying.

It sounds like the new, geforce now 4080 tier, is only for existing members 20 euros a month.

Love the performance gain vs. 3090 Ti mentioning 1.8x ratio - of course with DLSS3!
3090 Ti is 39,8 tf. So, 4070 Ti = 3090 Ti with better energy efficiency.

And they call it out as a 1440p card. So beside the cutdown in VRAM be prepared for strangulated bus.

TF wise yeah.

True, merely means anyone with a 4070, 4080, 4090 etc are good for the whole generation. They'll be maxing everything out and likely able to play every or most games next gen too.

I might consider getting a 4080 for a form factor build or HTPC build later this year.

(I still need to get a 4090 for my work station though) lol

Cool, even more reason for YouTube to skimp on bitrate, 1080p has already been dropped into worthless territory, if they get wind that GPU's are compensating for quality they'll just dog shit it more, can't wait for those 500kb/s 1080p streams.

Someone must be paying Nvidia a lot of money to sit on this technology, and limit it to the most heavily DRM'ed browsers. We've known they've had content agnostic DLSS that runs on mobile processors since the Shield, these desktop parts with 100x the processing power could no doubt make everything on your desktop look close to native 4K, but they sit on it.

4080s are in the 1400-1700€ range here, so 4070ti's will likely be in the 1000-1300€ range.
All cards will be sold out in a few minutes and Nvidia will make a ton of profit. May they choke on it.

How do you know? 4080 isn't selling.

I'm just going to forget about high end PC gaming for a while, my GTX 1080 will tide me over in indie/smaller titles and I'll play everything else on PS5. I was gearing up to spend a grand on a 4080 and I thought that was ridiculous but I won't prop up prices this stupid, ie £1350-1500 in the UK for an MSI, ASUS or Gigabyte 4080. Hopefully the reports of GPU sales being lower will force them to bring the prices back down to just high instead of unreasonable.

I'm on a 3060 laptop. I'd need to see how much performance improvement there is in the 4070/4080 range.

The mobile chip gains are supposed to be substantial if the rumours are anything to go by.

I have a 3070 laptop in the living room so will be keeping an eye on how much improvement there is.

Should update the title as it should be 4070ti.

Anyway, $800 will be £950 inc our 20% VAT and you know it will be pumped up more to be £1000+. 7900XT sits around £900-£1000

Not remotely tempting for me, I'll use my GTX 1080 for a good while yet. A second highest or third highest card should be in the £500-600 range. I had a GTX 580, I have a GTX 1080, former top end cards. I'm relegating myself down to third tier 4070ti/4070 and it's still a fucking grand you cunts. Fuck off with bells on.

prices for GPUs just seem so insane to me as a console gamer.

In terms of performance the GPUs in the current get consoles are like 5-7 years behind, or more, so that's partially reflected in the price, the other part is the insane price hikes nvidia has implemented.

These are only the high end GPUs so far. 4070 Ti should be around 2x console performance (probably around 3-4x better at RT).

Console tier GPUs will be priced way below these.
Nobody else to blame but pc gamers themselves, they showed nvidia they can buy gpus at scalper price, now Nvidia thinks they can sell their gpu's at scalper price and get away with it.
Miners and scalpers ruined the market, not PC gamers. RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XT sales are not great, those GPUs will need price drops if they want to see sales improve.

"Never pay more than $300 for a video game card"

I may have bought the most expensive Steam Deck but that was because it was the Steam Controller 2 that added a screen and a whole computer along with the entire new controller.

I'll buy a new GPU when it does my taxes for me or gives me free internet or something.

Until then I'll Be Decked!

Any word on the desktop 4060/ti gpu? I always buy the **70 cards but if the price/performance is right I'll definitely drop down a tier this time.

New 3070/80's are still too expensive in my country and the second hand market is far too risky.

fuck that

Insane also for pc gamers
So much...
My old 1080p monitor is starting to have some issues and I'm facing a problem because of this situation. If I change it, I'd probably go for 27" 1440p, but I "only" have a GTX 1080 which will struggle at 1440p on recent games... And I can't buy a GPU at these insane prices, so I'm kind of stucked. It's really annoying how broken the market is.

Way to shrink my 3080 e-peen Huang. I was already feeling a bit inferior but I feel inadequate now.

Might sell my 3080 for one of these. Got the 3080 at retail price, exactly two months after its launch. I’m still happy with it, but if I can upgrade to a fresh card for maybe €200 out of my pocket that feels ok for me.

Interested in the laptop GPUs but if they're going to charge astronomical prices then I'll just get a laptop on sale with a 3060 or something (assuming they all go to clearance in the next month or two).

I understand how you feel. I went the whole previous gen with a 3080 fe and I felt like Andrew Tate. Then the 4090 comes out and I suddenly feel like Greta Thumberg.
I have a solution though: Get a 4090 and feel like a mix of Donald Trump and Jar Jar Binks:

"Mesa love my new RTX 4090, it's the bestest graphics card in the whole galaxy! Believe me, it's huge, it's tremendous, and it's going to make all my video games run super duper fast. Trust me, nobody has a graphics card as good as mesa. You're gonna love it, it's huge."

GPU sales are declining, and the 4080 is selling like shit, just like this will.

A buddy of mine just picked up a 6700XT for $340. You don’t need these cards for excellent 1440p performance.

Bs performance numbers but should still be great for most games. Hopefully with a normal size heat sink.

Speaking of Geforce now, I was like, hmmmm, maybe I should try it at 4K 120hz, see how the lag is. Then I went onto their site and found a huge chunk of AAA games aren't on the service, making it sort of pointless? I mean lets say you buy into the whole "lets stream everything" at 4K 120hz with RT enabled, but you can't play Forza, Halo, Spiderman, God of War, Call of Duty ........ I mean what's the point if you have to buy another system to actually play a lot of the most popular games?

The 4070 laptop is apparently a disaster that performs worse than the 3070Ti. Some reports say the 4060 is worse than the 3060.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Nvidi...-or-low-wattage-likely-to-blame.679261.0.html

EDIT: People are theorizing that like they tried with desktops, nVidia is intentionally "promoting" lower spec chips - that the 4070 should be the 4060 and the 4060 should be the 4050.

I am just happy over Gforce Now, were going to buy a new graphics card for my aging gaming computer, but looking at theese prices, I went ahead and just installed the Gfn app on my 70 incher, and bought the 3080 subscription. It really works flawlessly! Even got MP games going without any issues.

Heck, even the 3060 is still around 500 bucks here, just insane prices for middle level cards, to used to getting a decent card around 300 every other generation I guess.

In the last few years, high FPS gaming, ray tracing and 4k were pushed on gamers. Out of all of those 4k makes practical sense (especially in larger displays). High FPS I can't tell over 60, and seems it's mostly for competitive FP shooter players. Ray tracing is a gimmick in all but a few games that pull it off well enough (and even then you need to work to see a difference in a side by side). So outside of 4k, what we really have is performance bloat, and now they are selling us expensive cards so we can jack up things that don't matter for most people.
Nah.
