Plague Tale Requiem Is The Most Slept On Game of 2022

I believe I've played every major release of 2022, and Requiem is head and shoulders above the competition. My GOTY is still Elden Ring, but the fact Ragnarok was the game nipping at its heels seems like a joke after completing Requiem.

I completed Innocence last week and felt like it was a solid 8/10 experience overall that held up well. Fantastic pacing, world, characters, plot, bosses, combat and stealth mix, soundtrack, and ending.

What I got in Requiem was everything from the original elevated far and above. The visuals maxed out are superb. Some of the best in the business. I was constantly using photo mode and soaking it in. The plot was very well written with some tremendous performances to flesh out these characters. It also never loses itself through superb pacing to keep the game going from highs to lows, and never overstayed its welcome. Audio here is bliss with some of the best music in a big name title of recent years. The combat in the original was more limited, but this was expanded on in so many ways to create every "area" with combat as a sandbox that allows you to strut your stuff on how you want to tackle it. With higher difficulties you'll be put to the test of stealth and action. The upgrade system this go around was far more fine tuned and intuitive than the original to boot.

This is a MUST play for folks who like games like Last of Us, Uncharted, or Metal Gear Solid. This stands shoulder to shoulder with long established AAA franchises like the ones I just mentioned. Any game forward from this studio is a day one must buy for me. Oh and on PC maxed out everything on a 3080 it ran like butter, PLUS it supported PS5 haptics on the xbox game pass PC version. That's HUGE.

Play it.

I got the first game as a psn freebie, but I haven't tried it out yet. The trailers for Requiem looked amazing, the rat hordes in particular. I'll definitely check it out at some point.

The two Plague Tale games are the ones I most want to finish. Funny you started this thread at the same time I reloaded up Innocence on PS5. Going over to Game Pass on PC for Requiem when I am done.

The super slow and boring stealth from the first one made me give up on it. Does this one still have all that shit?
It has more action than the other one but it is still has slow segments, In my opinión the gameplay aspect is not very well designed, but I liked the concept and the story and of course the graphics are very good.

True, really underrated games. Played them both on gamepass, very impressed with each.

Requiem is one of the best looking games right now. The studios involved are approaching naughty dog in quality.

Decent game, preferred the first one overall I think. Ening is great though, Dev's had some cojones to go the way they did. But then they went and "stronk woman'd" Amicia's hair at the end, which disappointed me.

I have to get back to it to finish it.

I played Innocence back to back with this, and I burned out a bit, felt very samey. But I was enjoying the story a lot.

I preferred the first one. Second one dragged on to much and the gameplay didnt really evolve from the first game to much when there's definitely improvements to be made in that area and i just wanted it to be over. Ragnarok and elden ring was loads better imo (as you mentioned them) played both until platinum.

Going back to it this week after I plat gow ragnarok. Give me a couple weeks to knock this, Pentiment and Devil In Me before the absolute torrent of games coming.

Putting Requiem along side Metal Gear Solid, Uncharted, Last of Us, that’s the real joke.

Also the writing being superb really? There’s no accounting for taste. But if you are willing to bypass all the jank then whatever, more power to you. Don’t be surprised that people see it for what it is, a decent AA game with some good graphics.

Agree with everything you said here. Also would like to add how incredible the different environments are. The towns to the sea, to the forest, to the caves, to the castle interiors, are masterfully done and really make you feel you are in the game.

After loving the first I dropped it because it’s an as by the numbers cinematic action game as it can get. Skill trees, painted ledges, move the cart here to climb puzzles, large open fields for combat. It feels as made by commite as it gets and I had to drop it. When the first came out I think I just wasn’t as worn out on the conventional game design as I am now.

Very glad to read this as it was my most hyped game of 2022 and I’ve only just got round to starting it as I was hopefully saving the best for last.

Loved the first game but the story fell short in the final third, as long as this doesn’t do the same and is as good in the other departments, I’m sure I’ll love it.

Not really. It's a good game and it got it's fare share of light in the sun.
But it also has a good amount of problems. Combat is just ok. Stealth is crap.
The story has it's moments, but Alicia and Hugo are like psychopaths going from town to town, committing mass genocide, while trying to pursue their own goals.
So it's a bit hard to relate to such selfish and evil characters.

I thought it was just OK, I was hoping they’d improve more in the sequel. This just felt like more of the same (which was pretty mediocre already in the first game, outside of the neat setting). I also experienced bad AI that made me unable to complete chapters several times.

I was pretty disappointed, enjoyed the first one more.

Everything was better paced and the story was more interesting. Adding larger areas and more action gameplay doesn't suit the game well IMO.

I've completed this game twice and can confidently say it isn't in the same league as God of War or Elden ring, not even close. It is a story first and gameplay far second title, my daughter LOVES the Plagues Tale series (which is why I've played it twice), the second playthrough was grueling as there isn't enough 'game'. There is a live action series coming to TV which seems a better medium. It could have been a lot better, New Game+ didn't add any variety which was unfortunate.

Unlike most people, i don't think the action/stealth gameplay was the problem. It's probably the key element that makes the game its own thing, even though it has obvious issues.

The writing is just not that good and it gets worse once you're on the island. Completely missed the mark here by ditching the medieval France setting to go for something completely cliché-ridden, terrible characters, scenario and background. The ending is good but nothing incredible i think.

Also all the walking and fake puzzles are insufferable, the game is far too long, another bloated mess.

It was a very solid game.

My only critique is it felt a bit like they had run out of time/money by the end which caused the ending to get very story heavy with limited gameplay in the final bit.

There should have been a big boss batlle against Hugo

how was it slept on? it was nominated for GOTY at the game awards (somehow).

I can't take you seriously when you say its close to Ragnarok or ER the game is just very poor gameplay wise for me and im sure for people in general.

Looks pretty tho

I dont like where the story went at all, actaully found it quite deflating as i enjoyed the first one

so let’ slaughter entire cities with rats (and get everyone we love killed) trying to keep my brother alive only to bash his head in with a rock in the end anyway lol how pointless it all was

And the gameplay aspect didn’t really get better. They tried to go for a more wide-linear approach but it doesn’t really suit the game at all when you have less options of directly taking down troops. You’re still locked into mostly avoiding them anyway.

Also, once again the same people that pollute the god of war threads talking about cinematic-movie games are of course praising this game, even though it has tons of squeeze through cracks, walking and talking sections, puzzle hints and painted ledges, and even less interesting gameplay than even the original last of us.

This game wants to be TLOU so bad not only in gameplay but overly dramatic and depressing story telling. Its a pale druckmann imitation at heart

I don't know. It has nice graphics, but mechanically it's an on-rail story adventure that brings absoutely nothing interesting in terms of gameplay.

I only played both games once, and even though Requiem does a lot of things lot better than Innocence, I don't think it is a better game. Some of the levels drag on for too long and it becomes slightly repetitive because of limited gameplay options. Still, I think it is a really solid 7.5/10 game.

Dafuq? Really?

Dafuq? Really?

Its 100% true. They are literally mass murdering 100’s of thousands of people throughout two games to save Hugo.

It tries too hard to copy what The Last of Us did. The first game is somewhat optimistic for the main characters despite Joel dooming the rest of mankind. The 2nd game is far more cynical and depressing for even the main characters. Plague Tale follows pretty much the same premise

Its like ‘copy my homework but don’t make it obvious’ meme

I don’t see the appeal myself. I tried the first game (with PS+) and lasted about 20 minutes before realising I was already bored. If the 2nd is more of the same, then it’s definitely not for me.

I actually liked the first game overall (despite one specific moment that was so infuriating that it almost made me give up completely), but decided to skip out on the second for now.

Besides that, a better and more slept on game from 2022 is Sniper Elite 5.

yep is is amazing,. More so in story than gameplay.
First one was very mid, so this is why people slept on it.
The kid constant never ending whining is also quite annoying
