Red Dead Redemption 2 is still the best open world game made

I can't blame those who don't care for the gameplay. Seems most people agree that the graphics are top shelf as well as the story. It's just that for whatever reason R* refuse to improve their gameplay mechanics.

I wonder if many of those who aren't bothered by the gameplay mechanics aren't people who put a ton of hours into GTAV and have just become used to it.

Ironically enough. While RDR2 is subpar in gameplay. One thing that RDR2 absolutely does better than any other game, and which even those critics would mostly agree with is... That RDR2 has the hands down best gameplay mechanics... when it comes to horses and horseback riding. Assassin's Creed was the first game to get horseback riding right. Now if I play an AC game, I'm walking everywhere because RDR2 has spoiled me. I'm now one of THOSE PEOPLE. A complete horseback riding snob who won't accept anything less than perfection.

But I am sure your game is an unique special version.

no maan! you don’t get it, its all intentional.
perfect simulation of this jaded cowboy whose reaction times fucked up by harsh life. /s

game plays horribly. pretty much a two-footed tank simulator. don’t know how much of a fan people need to be to deny that.

Boring game with decent characters and story that I could not finish though. The gameplay is stale to say the least. Collecting animal skins or cleaning up manure is not something I find compelling in a videogame.

I can never understand how people can be so anal about trivial shit like this..

"What! This game has 0.001 seconds of delay! Sorry! It's absolute crap now!"

It's bizarre.
If only it had 0.001 seconds, would be the best response ever.

I really enjoyed my time with the game but the controls were wonky as fuck and the lag/overly realistic animation didn’t help anything.

Tried two times still can't get into it. The input lag is attrocious on console and the slow start is so, damn boring.

Which is a shame because I loved the first game. Might have to give it another go but maybe on PC or an eventual PS5 port.

I don't call it an open-world game, for me that's a simulation game and it's fucking amazing. I'm not an avid gamer and I poured hours and hours into it.

Everything look new and beautiful on my first playthrough mission and story is fun explore around do hunting quest meet random npc is fun but after that kind of boring to re-play. I finish main story only one time in my first playthrough.

I wish stealth more viable , it would make the game more fun (for me personally) .

One enemy alerted and the whole camp know where I am , outside of certain story mission its almost impossible to do stealth .

Best world, yes I can agree to that. Especially with how dynamic everything is, feels like there is proper life in it and not just a static world with trigger points. I remember playing card and you would see people go in and out of the bar as time moved on, same if you just stand still in a random city street, the whole game moves on even if you put down the controller.

But after Elden Ring all other open world games lack content and so does RDR2. Although it is understandable since it’s reality, can’t have a cave around every corner in a game like RDR2.
I agree Elden Ring is a brilliant game and world, but I don't see how it makes Red Dead's world seem lacking in comparison. I can just appreciate their different worlds and recognize the strengths in the differing design choices.

Both are absolutely great. And RDR2 has an amazing dynamic and almost living game world filled with wild life and NPCs seemingly having an actual plan and not just set and repeated walk paths. I’m not downplaying it’s streangths. It’s just that it’s not as filled with carefully crafted loot and dungeons as Elden Ring which is at the top of the industry, you don’t go out and explore in RDR2 and stumble onto some secret area with the best loot in the game, even though it’s a nearly living world it feels empty when it comes to meaningful things to find.

The quest structure is horrible, Rockstar is stuck in the past with gameplay. In comparison to something like Cyberpunk where quests go in different directions depending on what you say or do, including leaving the area. Whereas in a Rockstar game it would just be an instant quest fail.

Nope it fucking sucks.

Most overrated game to grace us. It's clunky and boring. I've never been more bored by a video game in my life.

I'd rather work extra shifts in my job than play RDR2.

RDR2 has excellent world building, visuals, and story. However it is an awful video game. Cyberpunk is a much better experience than RDR2.

So bit of a necro, but I recently got back into RDR2. I was part of the crowd that thought it was boring as hell when I tried at launch due to the cumbersome controls and overly on-rails mission design. I decided to give it another go recently just so I could beat it and finally delete it from my hard drive.

Holy shit guys, I missed out. When you get past the above and actually immerse into it, this game is second to none. Easily the best open world I've come across. The freedom to explore and see all kinds of random crazy little world events, along with the insane customization for Arthur, your horse, your guns, and whatnot? That more than made up for the linear main mission design. I even got past that since the characters and storytelling were so damn good. There wasn't a single wasted mission IMO. The gameplay doesn't even feel as cumbersome once you really get the feel for the controls and menus. It's gotten to the point where I've almost got every non-online achievement. I'm just going after all the cards and legendary hunts at the moment.

Also, holy shit you get to play as John again?? Thank god I saved all the side missions for the end. I feel like I've played more than half the story as John. It's like stepping into a comfortable pair of old shoes again. I loved Arthur, but John is easily my favorite Rockstar protagonist.

Game is 10/10 (I mean easily one of the best games I've ever played), and now I see how hard God of War robbed it of its GOTY award. I'm also now convinced that everyone who says it's boring like I did just didn't give it enough of a chance.

People who found it "boring" have a very narrow scope for stimuli.
