High on LIfe Steam sales skyrocket alongside PC Game Pass success

Coming from GOW Ragnarok, High On Life -- a game with sooo many issues and such low scores -- just wouldn't sit well with the PS community.

Callisto Protocol has a 72% Metacritic and is popular here with many PS5 owners.

many consumers play hype, not review scores. The game would do well on any platform. The premise is certainly intriguing enough. How you can’t see that is beyond me.

Not to mention the fact that the general consensus is that the MC rating for this title is heavily skewed by review perception of the comedy. User ratings are MUCH higher across all platforms, including Steam verified purchases.

Lol @ ‘so many issues’. After the day one patch, it runs very well on console. Did you even bother to check out the review thread, which is pulling double duty as the OT?

This is also evident by the fact that literally no one is asking if it's a timed exclusive / if and when it's coming to PS because they want to play it, etc. There's just enough to chatter to indicate any interest in this.

There’s multiple posters in the review thread asking that question. And I’ve seen multiple tweets asking if it’s timed.

Also, if it comes to AA games, PS would have access to Neon White, The Forest Quartet, Sky: Children of Light, etc. all of which have scored higher than High on Life.

My point exactly. High on Life is trending higher on social media than all three of these games combined. Here too.

The game launched with poor performance, startup crash on both Xbox and PC, no HDR, no FOV options, not even key bindings and control mappings, not to mention literally game-breaking bugs that force you to play from the beginning. Are these issues not enough? lol.

It's trending higher in the Xbox circle, yes. Not among PS fans.

Here are screenshots of me searching 2 of the biggest PlayStation subreddits with a combined population of 3.5 million. Literally no one is talking about this game.

Again, not shitting on the game. I'm just presenting a counter-argument that had it released on PS day one, it would NOT have garnered the same traction, mainly because there are better games to play that don't have nearly half the issues.

This is the 'most played' list, right? It does not indicate game sales, so how did you come to this conclusion? Genuinely curious.
Well, if 100 percent of xbox userbase have game pass then maybe that explains this...but it looks like it's had some decent sales as well.
As someone who plays games mostly on PS5, I can say with certainty that it's extremely unlikely.

Lmao, you're so cute. Yes the entire playstation userbase is so above this game. They exist on a higher plane of metacritic snobbery and wouldn't go for such a commonly succesful game.

There have been quite a few people saying they can't wait to pick it up on ps5. I think you are just blind or need to get over yourself, the games great.

I look forward to it launching on ps5 and seeing the top played playstation list.

Any sales data to back up?

Awww, thank you! ❤️

I keep hearing this, but I haven't seen one chat from y'all that demonstrates this. I shared Reddit screenshots that literally have 0 posts by 3.5 million PS people. No idea where are those people who are talking about this.

Feel free to share the links.

Won't happen. The game will most likely launch on PS in 3-6 months. PS gamers will be too busy playing Hogwart's Legacy, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Horizon Burning Shores, Horizon CoTM, Resident Evil Village PS VR 2, Final Fantasy XVI, Star Wars Jedi, and more.

Again, not shitting or downplaying the game. I'm just being practical and don't think that this will have the room to chart.

You speak for the entire "PS community" - hilarious.

If you're going to try it with AA games, you probably already know that most GOTY lists top 10 have been peppered with Game Pass indie games and Xbox console exclusives.

Well, maybe you're not wrong and squanch decide to continue working exclusively with Microsoft. Wouldn't be bad for those with a game pass subscription...

...but I still fell you'll be proven wrong and the game will perform well in comparison to those games.

So I don't think it will outsell them, but I bet there are tons of Rick and Morty fans that will enjoy picking the game and playing through it.

It's a fun game. Great fun.

Did you try changing the setting so that characters/guns talk less? I was mad surprised when the tip for it popped up 😂
Haha, I did, but there's a ton of story related chatter that is equally annoying.

I'm overall having fun though, it's such a bizarre fucking experience, lol

Imagine the silliness in you bringing up PC issues in a discussion around console. Makes no sense. Same as listing ‘no HDR’ and ‘lack of FOV slider’ on console for an AA game as serious issues.

I’m not sure where the logic comes from to look for commentary on an Xbox exclusive in PlayStation Subreddits, but it doesn’t make sense, much like most of your posts in this thread.

A better approach would be to look for this in a place where gamers with different consoles come together. Sort of like a game enthusiast forum. Like this.

Would you look at that? turns out you were wrong. As expected 😂

I don't know about this, it's a good sign to see it charting on the most played list, but it's also natural since it's new.

Wait 2 weeks and see where it's then. And this list, the top 3 usually sell well, but the bottom of the top 10 is not some huge sellers.

Still, people seem to like the game.

Not exactly ‘natural’ since majority of new AA games don’t chart that high on Gamepass or reach those heights on Steam sales charts.

I think the scores make perfect sense. It's a good shooter, feels like almost a copy of Halo mechanically. Hell, even that autmatic gun is almost a carbon copy of the needler.

But that's fine, wjat bothers me is the jit or miss humor that often is just really annoying. My god that flying alien talking your ear off. I had to turn the game off because I couldn't think,it was so annoying.

And the music outside of battles is really chill and cool, but then turns into this nightmare of annoying sounds when battles hit. I've got sensitive hearing, so I might react harsher than most, but I can't remember a game that's pummeled my ears more than this one.

The audio is exhausting.

So yeah, good and bad stuff that ends up putting the game somewhere around 60.
The payoff when you can actually kill him tho...

Comedy is highly subjective.
I like Rick and Morty but this was on overdrive. It's like Marvel movies where they just can't but insert a joke into nearly every sentence and every sequence, it's grating.

lol how was I proven wrong? You said it'd chart on PS the same way it did on Xbox, I said it wouldn't because there isn't enough room for it to chart. We both are right until it releases on PS and either chart or doesn't chart.

I still say it won't, but ping me if it does, and only then I'll be proven wrong. Or you'll be proven wrong if it doesn't chart like it did on Xbox.

its deserved, yes gameplay isnt anything spectacular but its nice to have some light hearted story and dialogue thats not run of the mill, even if some or most of it can be bad 😆 it has still made me laugh

I was just thinking about how this was only below steam deck on the best sellers list and how long it has been since a game like that stayed up there outside of like two days.

Well done I really enjoyed my time with it.

And you joined the army of the defence shills and saved that image just in case someone like me shows up? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

When something’s the popular opinion, ‘shilling’ is quite the impotent term to use, isn’t it? 😂
86% rating on Steam, despite technical issues at launch.

Whatever downplaying you guys want to do is not surprising. Any success the game is experiencing is a victory. The game had very little hype or marketing. It got massacred on Metacritic in one of the most unfair and exaggerated ratings I've ever seen, only eclipsed by the ratings given to The Ascent. It's finding an audience purely because of GP and word of mouth right now, and it deserves it. The game is fantastic, and a ton of fun. Polished gameplay on par with a casual Halo, tons of in depth easter eggs like I've never seen, great art design filled with vivid color and futuristic Guardians of the Galaxy-style city zones, and the game's hilarious; loaded with excess dialogue you can listen to optionally, side skits and commercials everywhere, and even whole movies.

Congrats to the devs. They deserved better than the reception they've gotten so far. It's easily the best comedy video game ever made. It's not even close.

Haven't tried it yet, but its installed. My brother loved it. Give it a try soon.

I am always amazed how awful the taste of the average gamer is. This game couldn't be any more stupid...but what's to expect from a community that buys yearly installments of CoD or FIFA.
Apparently, being able to play or enjoy a game that doesn't take itself too seriously is considered "awful taste" now.

Is this supposed to be an ironic post?

Reminds me of Mad Max’s reviews. Got ~70 ish but is 91% very positive on Steam. The Ascent is a good example too.

It's fun. Why don't you understand fun? I mean the gun that just does Morty the whole time is kind of obnoxious but there's a lot more to it than that.

Played it for a couple hours. Big R&M fan but the humor here is just... okay? LIke 1 out of every 5-10 jokes are clever or funny. Not great. The knife is pure edgelord humor, groan. *rim shot*

The shooting is also just... okay?

60 may be a little low. Maybe a 70 for me right now. But not sure I'll keep playing honestly. Too many other games are more interesting.
The shooting gets a lot better once you unlock some more abilities and weapons and the enemy variety increases. There's a lot of verticality to the game, and the exploration is really fun. Tons of stuff to find.

The humor is less of the tightly scripted Dan Harmon style of Rick and Morty and much more of the looser semi-improvised Interdimensional Cable style. Silly, absurd, fourth wall breaking, and probably better after smoking a joint.

It's probably like 50/50 scripted/improvised, which is actually more than their last game Trover Saves the Universe, which seemed to have mostly improvised dialog.

This is dumb. I loved Ragnarok and I was excited to play High on Life as well. Ragnarok is a bigger, more polished game, but I got super into both. And I like it way more than any of those "AA" games you mentioned.

You could have stopped right there to be fair. There was no need to provide any justification.
