I'm going to buy the game.... But when it's at 15 dollars.

And I saw that it also came out for ps4... No wonder there are many sections of corridors, to hide the loading times.

I suppose its too much to ask for a game to compile shaders on launch or asynchronously nowadays.
Another UE4 release, another shader compilation release. These 2 terms could be synonymous at this point.
I wish steam added some shader compilation tag so we could filter this trash or at least a stutter warning listed in the features section right next to 3rd party launchers and drm warnings or better yet right next to add to cart.

Has anyone tried running it in dx11 with dxvk async?

I am really surprised at the reaction here.75 is a great score means a good to very good game especially if you are a fan of these kind of games/Genres and so on.People are way to fixated on some numbers. For some an 80 is amazing score for some others it’s average. Some people say to bad I hoped for a 80 now I will rent it or wait for a massive price drops. Are you serious people where is the fucking difference between a 75 and 80 ?I you like 3 person horror games this game is a must have no discussion.

Everyone criticizes metacritic but truly it has more influence than ever it's getting scary. It should be the other way around, people getting less mad at journalists but putting them where they belong.

Evil Within had more or less the same score and it's considered a good game that any survival horror enjoyer should play.

I'm sure it's fair criticism though, the game doesn't look like it has a tenth of the impact Dead Space had. But people should stop freaking out.

They will never learn it...

These people have no critical sense, they are practically shoals in waves.
They need an unknown person to play and form their opinion.

Nothing must have about what appears to be an extremely linear experience, with horrible performance, very little story, and clunky, frustrating combat. And I say this as a huge survival horror fan.

I’ll play this game eventually, when it’s on GamePass or super cheap, which feels like the right move for a game that’s this average.

Woof talk about the incredible downward spiral in hype for the game overnight ..

Everyone protecting their AAA blockbuster made for everyone against the evilness of the 75s subgenres. Give me these games anytime over the trite we’ve been getting with perfect scores from the mainstream gaming press.

I will test it for myself if it was free, no doubt, but it cost 70€, and I buy always digital, so I can't resell o refund. It's totally understandable that facing a purchase people need others opinion to take a good decision. Is it Metacritic perfect? No, but in something we need to trust before spending 70€ in a 10 hours game.

I would prefer a Demo. For example, Tormented Souls have bad reviews but I liked the demo a lot so I purchased it and enjoy it. In that case, as I tested it by myself I decided more based in my opinion than in reviews. But with Callisto I only have others opinions, so I'm very cautious.

well, there goes the last game on my "keep an eye on" list for this year.
Disappointing, but money saved, I guess.

Who would have thunk Midnight Suns was going to be the overwhelmingly better received game of the two releasing today.

Enough of this "squeeze through tight spot" sections that so many of these fucking AAAA game devs have a hard-on for. It's shitty padding and adds literally nothing but frustration to the user. Garbage.
From now on anything that forces that kind of shit any more than once or twice through the length of a game is an immediate skip for me.
Those sections are the price we pay for no loading screens.

Shame, really. I was looking forward to this. Guess I'll check it out after they fixed the PC version.

After that playthrough leaked last week and then the aggressive embargo, it's not entirely surprising.

I purposefully avoided all the leaks stuff for spoilers, but then again I'm also glad I didn't pre-order this game before-hand.

I feel bad for the small group that bought AMD cards that were banking on selling this game to make some of their money back.

I would rather have a loading screen. Requiring my feedback to move along slowly inch by inch does not make the game more engaging or fun or "immersive".

Or another thought, you could actually not worry about the score and listen to the general consensus that the game is poorly designed from reading or watching actual reviews. SkillUp is one of the best unbiased reviewers out there and he explains quite well what is wrong with the game in his YouTube review.

I'm not saying don't buy it or you won't like it, I have the game already myself but have not started it yet. But it's pretty clear the game is a poor execution of a good survival horror game.

It’s a prison with vents and debris and they’re normally very short moments. Incomparable with the hundreds of slow lifting rocks, wall cracks, auto-climbs, gates, and doors of something like GOW.

Man that SkillUp review is pretty damning. Makes me wonder how it is even getting an average in the 70’s. I miss the old days when even a 5 or 6 could represent an average game with flaws. Now it seems anything below a 7 is considered trash, so even really flawed games can end up in the 70’s.

One boss fight, one mini boss recycled numerous times like Odor 1886, and less than ten hours of playtime

Really accomplished their goal of reinventing the wheel.

Resident Crybaby
Oof.

Not that I expected anything groundbreaking but I was at least hoping for a solid action horror game. But after looking up some reviews and user scores, I'm kinda glad I didn't jump on it blindly because it looks like the kind of game that would just frustrate and disappoint. The melee combat especially looks super repetitive, and the fact that they're forcing you into it so much isn't very encouraging.

It’s at a 75 right now, which should literally be right smack dab in the middle of “solid, action, horror game”.

I've been saying for a while something about the game seems off to me .
Still lower than I expected though, I thought it would be in the low 80's.

The thing is they knew reviews were bad as they did a review embargo to damage control the pre-orders. So, how does it work the press review system? Do they make a review and then send it to the developers to check the score? How did they know the reviews would be bad?

A lot of AAA studios use mock reviews. They'll basically pay people (often people with games media experience) to make a private review for them to get an idea of what to expect from reviews once the game is out.
If the mock reviews aren't particularly positive they might make some last minute changes and they can set the embargo as late as possible.

Or they might just be aware their game isn't that great. A lot of these people have years of experience making and playing games, if they can look past their pride they might realize the end product just isn't as good as what they were aiming for.

Dead Space only had one "boss" and one mini boss, right? The ending boss and that one that moves like a gorilla

I feel like reviewers should have replayed (or even played for the first time) Dead Space 1 and 2 before playing this game

I swear to God, every complaint also serves for those games (besides combat). Each one of them.

"Lacking story", "too many jumpscares", "meh characters".

"It has an enemy just like the Clicker in TLOU, but killing it right beside another enemies wont alert them".

Well, try that in TLOU 1 and 2 and you'll have the same reaction. But those games are 10/10, somehow.

I'm playing it right now and I'm just ... baffled. Because its exactly what I was expecting from a spiritual successor to Dead Space.

Seems like reviewers are nitpicking the fuck out of this game

Let it go. It’s a horror game for horror fans. Forget about the scores. Enjoy it. Platinum it. It’s my plan. :D

Once I saw that some clowns were crying about hard combat I knew this would get bad reviews.

Games journalism won’t mature in my lifetime it seems.

Skill Up simply states facts and it buries this game haha

Man, what a disappointment

The entire segment where he lists down the bad shit about how the game plays, no instant healing, bad animation priority during combat, getting dodge/stun locked in combat with more than one enemy.

Looks like the devs spent more time making the game look pretty instead of making it play well.

You should watch Skill Up's video. The combat isn't hard, the game is very poor about managing its combat mechanics.

A lot of these reviews main complaint is that it feels like too much the same. And the vision of the game is that of Dead Space which is too similar.
It's gonna be hilarious if the Dead Space remake gets raving reviews from these same people.
Shame about the PC performance though.

SkillUp clearly states that it's the combat that pushed him over the edge into not recommend territory and he gives examples that don't fall into the nitpicky camp.

My Impressions so far-
Decidedly was less remarkable than I had expected. So far I would say a buy/wait for a sale right in the middle between the two. Probably would be a buy if forced to give a rating right now.
What about buy, finish it, and then sell it on eBay for $55?

Yeah, but it hurts to see shit like this, because it affects new games like this from being made

Not only that, but it must be a blow to the studio that made it to see such unfair criticism

Reviews such as that one from IGN that gave Alien Isolation a 5,9 is probably the reason we never got a sequel

Fucking Ryan McCaffrey. Hate that dude. Same guy who said that resolution doesnt matter and so many other shit.

And yet, he is an Executive Editor there.

It's just a number, and usually these are way higher than what the score actually should be because gaming press is too chickenshit to properly utilize full range. This looks more like a 5/10 game, maybe 6/10 if I'm being generous. If it wasn't for the high production values and the hype surrounding this game then probably no one would give a shit.

I usually love his reviews. He is my favorite reviewer of them all.

But I dont take his words as gospel. He didnt recomend TLOU Part II, and I consider that game one of the bests ever made.
