> 100+ Monsters planned for release, mostly included in Rise, World and Generations.
> Battle Pass system to replace expansions. You will be able to buy the battle pass once the season ends, the only thing you can miss is event quests, whic hcan come back later as well.
> Will have an in-game item shop where you will be able to buy microtransactions/cosmetics.
> Will have a system in which you will be able to call NPC clones of real players for solo plays, similar to NPC quests in Ryse.
> New story will be about a human main villain trying to awake Lethalis.
> Lethalis is the flagship monster, a black/gold wyvern with massive 4 leg/wings which is the natural rival/wyvern version of Fatalis.
> Hunter Arts will be introduced, which will allow players to infuse their characters with an element, which will give his hunters special abilities like faster movements, explosive attacks, eletric body etc.
> Planned to last until the end of PS5/XSX generation. Also coming to PC and next Nintendo console.

I don't like the sound of all that live service shit... but will need to see how it pans out. The idea of letting people buy season pass items they missed out on is novel at least, takes away FOMO even if it means consumers are now paying for rewards they used to just earn in the old games.

Is this a new MH title? I thought Rise has just released

Yes but that was for Switch (and PC) much weaker hardware and limiting with what they could do. This is the sequel to world for current gen systems (and whatever Nintendo's next console is)

I really don't like battle passes, I just don't play enough to complete them, except infinite what can be completed mega quickly. (Not that infinites one expires anyway)

I mean, the "main" MH team is certainly working on something. Some of these items are decidedly un-Monster Hunter, so I don't know if that's enough to not believe it or if Capcom is hoping to wring as much out of the newly found Western love for the series.

Either way, I'm really looking forward to the next MH. I love Rise, but it's the weakest MH in over a decade for a lot of reasons.

Ehhhhhh. IF TRUE, this isn't great news for me.

I don't like the idea of what live service will do to the core of the game, namely locking cosmetics behind passes/DLC even more than they already are. I also don't like that it's an extended support title, because all MH games have a gimmick, and usually by the end of the support for that gen/game, you are sick as fuck of it. Like Clutch Claw, Mantles, etc.

I'll do the usual "wait and see" approach, but this isn't getting me hyped so far.

I'll buy it regardless, but MH turning into paywall/live service has been one of my greatest gaming fears. I feel like MH fans have been (at least in the West) enjoying their nice little corner of gaming with free updates and content and the consistent cadence of Main Game then G-Rank Version of game. Then World comes out and does crazy numbers and maybe Capcom starts seeing dollar signs.

Please don't fuck up Monster Hunter....

100+ monsters on release?

Instant DOUBT.
It may just be a "Generations" game of the console releases (e.g., World/Iceborne/Rise/Sunbreak).

The RE engine is incredibly flexible. Dumping all those monsters from both games/expansions and then adding new ones wouldn't be impossible.

Still, even for MH, that's a lot of monsters. Problem with these rumors is just because the details seem farfetched doesn't mean the whole thing is bunk. Some of this could be true.

After playing MH on handhelds and weak hardware for over a decade, World gave me/us a taste that I desperately want again. A full "next gen" version of MH on PC/XBSX/PS5 only would blow my mind. I'm sure we won't get that, but a guy can dream I guess.

Agreed. Even though I recognize that Rise does a lot of cool stuff, it was hard going a step backwards from World in a lot of ways.

I also think the emphasis on streamlining everything made me burn out on the game that much quicker. Looking back at World now, the gather missions and Endemic life capture, not knowing immediately where the monster is at all times etc is important. Otherwise it's just a never-ending boss rush game which frankly made me put a lot less hours into it and enjoy the whole package a lot less, even if the gameplay was "better".

Taking pictures just wasn't a good substitute for all of the side content that World offered to give you a break from hunting every now and then. Plus the quest joining system was a mess if you wanted to hop in with randoms and hunt something specific.

Anyways, I'm straying off topic a bit, but I trust Ichinose to make good decisions and to take what worked in previous games and make it better, but the live service thing still has me a bit gunshy.

Wait and see for me i guess... if it isn't TOO crazy w the microtransactions could be cool. Is this F2P supported by a battlepass system? If that's the case my whole family will probably play this with the kiddos spending some chore money on the pass like they do for fortnite i guess? Could be cool

This... sounds like a quick stop-gap game. Not the full MH World successor for next-gen everyone is waiting for. This sounds like a souped-up Generations sequel with F2P elements mixed in. Not a fan of any of this, tbh. Yuck.

Oh god, my heart. I just want it to be current gen only. Everything else I'll come to grips with. Monster Hunter World was the last good MH game and it came out five (5) years ago. I'm fucking ready. World already features a gargantuan amount of purely optional cosmetic DLC. Integrating this directly via an in game shop makes more sense and will increase visibility. I'm curious about a GAAS sort of approach. Capcom often does years of support with updates, expansions, new monsters, etc. You figure that the base game is about $60, and then the expansion is usually around $40. You're already in around $100 for the full experience. As long as the price doesn't really exceed that, or if the content is genuinely good enough to merit it... It's really the same either way. $40 a year for annual expansions... or $10 a quarter for a drip feed of new content.

We'll see. Cautiously optimistic that Capcpom is acutely aware of the tightrope they are walking here, making drastic changes to their biggest cash cow.

Oh god no not the live service bullcrap not attached to monster hunter…

I mean why? Monster Hunter is hugely profitable for Capcom why do they need to turn that beautiful franchise into generic GAAS paste.
I mean you just answered your question. A hugely profitable game getting a GAAS model would bring in more money. I don’t like the idea of season passes and all that, but it seems to work for games that are profitable.

So far this is a rumor so let’s hope none of this is real.

40$ for G rank is enough money that Capcom has to provide decent value… typically GAAS paste relies on smaller, less meaningful content drops dolloped more often to maintain engagement. In other words a big G rank expansion is not within the normal parameters of GAAS paste.

i think with the leak that rise is coming jan 2023 to PS and Xbox, world 2 might not happen until holiday 24 or early 25. bummer

Fake. The next Capcom game to be announced pretty likely will be a new Onimusha.

The next Monster Hunter will be Monster Hunter 6 (or at least Capcom had it codenamed like that a couple of years ago) and won't be released on Nintendo platforms.

"World 2" (codenamed Monster Hunter 6) was planned for Capcom back in early 2020 to be released on summer 2023. Adding the typical covid delay or the typical delays many games have, very likely will be released on 2024, on time for the MH 20th Anniversary.

What's the source??
Here we have a monkey showing it:

I do hope you realise you’re speaking in a way that strongly implies you _know_ these things as facts and not just making a deduction from a 2nd hand source like the rest of us. Just in case you weren’t aware.

If I've got a Vita and a 3DS, what's the best MH to play? 4 Ultimate on 3DS? Or is one of the older ones better?
Generations on 3DS might be your best bet. In my opinion it’s one of the most feature rich of the older ones. And you can play as a cat. C’mon.

Also: I dont want to wait over 6 years for a new mainline MH. Rise had its day in the sun and this year was all about sunbreak. Next year can’t just have nothing. No way the main MH team needs that long.

Hopefully they finally implement server side saves and strong anti-cheat systems since they're trying to live service monetize it.

Since they weirdly never translated Monster Hunter 3 Portable (or brought over a MH3P HD to Vita, though they did do an upscaled release for PS3?), I think you've got no choice but to go with one of the 3DS game unless you really want to go back to root-level (although the PSP games were some people's favorites, and if you are a bad person, they are the easiest to obtain now outside of a Switch.)

Loved MHW but a battle pass?

These games do not need FOMO alongside the sometimes infuriating RNG for drops. I know the post says you'll only miss out on event quests but without more specifics I'm very cynical.

MH3P has an English patch actually - is the PSP version better than the 3DS one?

I'm no MH aficionado, so I'll let somebody else answer that one. Mostly I just know that it's the crown jewel of the PSP library and yet for some reason us PSP owners outside of Japan were left waiting in vain to play it. And then Wii got Tri before 3DS finally took MH for itself, but MHP3rd and Tri/3 Ultimate have differences, despite the name. (I actually forgot that 3U was one of the 3DS games, so maybe just ignore me...) MH3P has HD patches if that's the route you're going, plus the language patch you mention, so treat yourself!

PSP version better than the 3DS one? Better is hard to qualify, to my knowledge there are no 3DS games that were on PSP outside of Poka Poka Airou Village. So it's not exactly apples to apples.

Anyway. MH3P HD Ver for PSP is the best the 3rd generation of monster hunter has to offer. Generations for 3DS (since that's what you have) is the best of 4th generation. Generations has access to more weapons and abilities than MH3P by a country mile. So if you're looking for variety, that's an easy one. If you're looking for just classic monster hunting, MH3P.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!

P3rd has a good rep because despite gutting Tri to fit on PSP without swimming, downgraded visuals etc., they added tons of content, knowing it's the final PSP game. It's kind of like a G game without the G rank. So in comparison, Tri which came before it and was a brand new generation Monster Hunter with huge upgrades to every aspect and mostly new monsters, with much better visuals at that so they couldn't really reuse models (which they did for 3rd), had very little and also missing weapons the U expansion would bring back. But there was no 3U for the longest time making P3rd's content even more valuable back then. 3U has more content/G rank/all weapons/better graphics (but not as good as Wii). Just go with whichever theme you prefer between 3U, 4U and GU, the last is a kind of remix celebration of Monster Hunter in general. 3U would be the clunkiest but it's fine.
