I have both. Still can’t wrap my head around someone above 12 calling themself a ”fan” of a product or a service.

I mean, you are a consumer not a groupie. Jesus.
Are you not human?
We al have our preferences and like something more than something else. It's completely normal and completely not normal to have full apathy towards something.
Mothers have their favorite child too even though they don't think so.
You think of a fan as some crazy person

Until they release PS5 Slim it'll always be the worst time to buy a PS5 because the thing is a behemoth, price is not dropping and it's a matter of time until they make it smaller.

When smaller hits, there will be people offloading the Skyscrapper design for less money just to get the newer design (so good value for people buying used that don't care about space), and price new will still be the same (so slim will have better resale value anyway).

The huge pile of plastic+copper will fast belong in a museum alongside shit like the DVR PSX based on the PS2 and Mega Drive 1 will all addons plugged in. Preferably sawed off in half for people to see how crazy big the heatspreader design is.

There is nothing wrong with ps5 side. It looks great vertically. And it’s silent.
If you find it a problem to game because the console is slightly too big? Lol you are not a gamer. Just an ass

What a load of waffle, if people have the money and want it, they'll have it.

What is with these articles that seem to be written for infants? Has it really come to a point where people dont understand the basics?

Exactly. People spend money on hobbies they enjoy. (Console) gaming even isn't that expensive compared to others hobbies.. more-so if the person is somewhat savvy.

Besides.. the PS5 has some great games and exclusives to play on there. A lot of which is worth peoples time, seeing the amount of interest in said console. So this 'worst time to buy' statement comes across as bitching about nothing lol.

The optional accessory complaint is also extremely petty.

The only reason I’d say if you don’t have either new console yet, 2 years in, better off just waiting for the Pro versions. Reason being Horizon Forbidden west, GT7, GoW:R can all be played on a ps4/ps4 pro. Same for MS’s consoles, almost all games are cross platform. So you can still play and enjoy all the new releases and save that 500 dollar investment for the upgraded hardware.

The software pricing is really the issue. $70 vs Gamepass or even just $60 games.
GP is mostly old and indie type games, so nothing truly premium there, and this is not like there was no alternative (if this is your kind of thing).
Lucky for Sony they’ve been having a very good year with some really enticing exclusives.
Sony has the best track record for the type of games they offer, this is not luck, there is a method to this madness... since 1994.

MS spent billions on 25 studios, nothing outstanding has come of it (unless you count trailers and PR talk, then plenty has come out of these purchases).
It fills me with joy to know that a small white box makes so many grown men upset. :)
What are you doing in an enthusiast board?
There should be gamers rioting in the streets for MS over this! Unite the people over the good cause!
To be fair, MS really made their games accessible through their service. It's like renting out a game. I also plan to rent Starfield for $10 for a month when it releases on PC.
Isn't starfield the kind of game people play hundred of hours and for years after its release? That's the worst use case for a monthly service, it only makes sense for you if you play a specific game for a few hours then move on to never come back. If you have preferences and want to play a given game for a long time, well that makes zero sense.

What a weird article.
Ok the price increase sucks, I agree, we definitely aren't used to paying MORE for a console after it has been out for 2 years.
But the rest? An optional premium controller? An optional VR headset? And ooptional subscription service?

The subscription part in particular doesn't make sense. Ps+ extra has amazing value for a late adopter, for $100 (or an extra $40 over your regular yearly Ps+) you get access to Demon Souls Remake, Returnal, Miles Morales, the Ps5 version of Ghost of Tsushima and Death Stranding, Guardians of the Galaxy, FF7 Remake Interlude, Deathloop, etc

Why are so many Sony fanboys so defensive? If you live outside US PS5 is a terrible purchase right now . Where i live local stores have no PS5 inventory while in other EU countries is not that much better. Amazon uk only has one PS5 bundle available and thats 700 pounds . Great deal right there
Meanwhile xbox series X is 300 euros cheaper and Pc parts are the cheapest they have been for quite a while

I live in Europe (Portugal) and since last christmas its relatively easy to get a Ps5.

I got mine last christmas at quite a decent price with an extra controller. It would actually be harder to get an Xbox, I've never seen one in the wild, but then again, in Portugal "no one" has an Xbox.

I doubt many would disagree with you if the article were about availability or forced bundles, but it isn't about either. Apparently it is a bad time to buy PS5 because peripherals like PSV2 and DualSense Edge are too expensive, the rewards program isn't great, and PS+ isn't as good as Game Pass. Of course, the article barely touches on games because that would be in PlayStation's favor. But yeah, if we are going to gripe about fanboy takes then it is pretty easy to start with the article's author.

It's pretty much the opposite, with all the great games that have been released so far and hardware availability at its best since launch, it's the best time to get one.
But hey don't buy one because Sony if forcing you to buy a Dualsense Edge and PSVR2 as well to enjoy it :messenger_tears_of_joy: or it's better not to buy great games and play whatever they throw at you in a subscription (something that you can do as well with PS+ Extra).

Shitty article to try to get hits and appeal to a certain target audience, it's no wonder that this bullshit doesn't stick in the real world.

Imagine thinking that price isn't a point worth discussing.
Truly something written by the 1%.

Price is always worth discussing, but not the way the author is doing it. For the vast majority of PS5 customers, neither the PSV2 or the DualSense Edge are even a remote consideration and yet the author presents them as a key point as to why it is a bad time to PS5. Clearly it is the author who has the 1% in mind.

I still have yet to see a PS5 on a store shelf two full years into its life, and I'm at Target or Walmart several times per week. At this point it feels foolish not to wait for a Pro model or at the very least the inevitable smaller redesign.

I'm pretty sure that this dead horse has been beaten so much you're literally just hitting the ground at this point. Buy what you want or don't who gives a shit

The 1% had their assistant buy a bunch of PS5s on Amazon or eBay etc for $1000 2 years ago. Then gave them out to people in their day to day lives. Like party favors. Its $500-$600 for a 7 year commitment and there are a bunch of highly rated, exclusive games on sale right now and through Christmas. This isn’t a bank breaking purchase

No-name dogshit Western games "journalist" website, no-name dogshit Western games "hot take" article. Likely paid for by certain parties, no less.

Can we just start banning these websites altogether? They contribute absolutely NOTHING to the larger gaming discourse and only promote FUD and toxicity. They'll never have my respect ever again.

Embarrassing.. especially after the amazing year Sony had with exclusives this person shouldn't work in media if he can't be objective I'm really tired of these fanboys in media I would have a lot more respect for this article if it came from windows central not a supposedly "objective" outlet smh what a weirdo...

They know exactly what they're doing and yet still platform this type of absolute nonsense. They can do as they like, but I'm not wasting my time feeding into their fake outrage.

And to anyone still crying about price increases: maybe this isn't the hobby for you. That's not being discriminatory; it's literally basic economics in effect. I'd love to drive exotic cars on race tracks on weekends but I'm too poor to do that. You don't see me crying out accusing Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Bugatti, McLaren etc. being discriminatory and anti-consumer, because I have a functioning brain and understand basic economics.

Whoever wrote this article apparently lacks any of that, or at least turned it off to spew out a jumbled ramble of letters from their rear end.

EDIT: Maybe I'm being a bit blunt there, but it's tiring seeing price levied against Sony, and ONLY Sony, when they aren't even the only platform holder in which that argument could theoretically be held against (it's like Nintendo suddenly ceases to exist).

These "journalists" ignore that games go on sale. They forget that if price were really the big concern, cheap laptops and Newgrounds would be the most popular way to play games, and the consoles wouldn't even be selling.

At this point I'm pretty much looking at any so-called journalist still trying to push the price argument as a GamePass shill, and it's too bad they can't make an argument in favor for services like GamePass on the merits of the content in the service, and without trying to tear down a direct competitor over fraudulent claims.

Not sure what that has to do with this dumb article. Keep this cringey shit on twitter, because Sony warriors there are just as bad if not worse.

FNM2jKuVEAI0IrE.png

I agree that there are super-cringe, dumb fanboys of PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. But Western games journalists keep forgetting that they are the ones who have partially been fueling that mentality with articles just like this one, because they're so desperate for clicks & traffic and lack any writing talent that can write genuinely good articles that don't feed into console war toxicity.

That is their fault, though, and they continuously fail to be better. So they just keep adding fuel to the dumb, toxic fanboy wars.

Not only that, but he comes out and lists 3 exclusives coming in 2022 and still focuses on overall price and peripherals vs games.
This narrative where we draw focus away from games is really embarrassing.
How does someone write this?:
Sure, 2023’s looking bright if you’re in it for the games. Ff16, Spider-Man 2 and the Silent Hill 2 remake headline a strong set of exclusives, and I’m sure Sony’s ultra-talented first-party studios have more up their sleeves. But for anyone yet to buy into the PS5 ecosystem, astronomically high prices for both hardware and software make it a tougher sell than ever before.”
What are we talking about here? It’s a video game console

Being unbiased and owning both current gen consoles I can totally agree with this. The PS infrastructure is definitely less value for money than xbox. I only use my PS5 for exclusives, everything else i use the xbox for. Last gen it was the other way round for me

If you are in the UK you can get the God of War bundle from Argos for £539 (its been in stock all week), or from PlayStation Direct, or Smyths, or Amazon for £479 (by invitation which you can request)
Where can you get a series X for £200? I may get another XBox if that is true

I’ve never understood these preachy, holier than thou articles where the inevitably sanctimonious author tries to tell people what to spend their $$ on…..

It’s ridiculous. If you have the means and want…buy what ever you want and play what ever you want.

There isn’t a “bad” choice out there and yes you will get your money’s worth no matter what you pick.

This is a great time to jump in either ecosystem…
