New Marvel's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Trailer

Yeah I guess I would need some context on it first.

For instance, I was not that offended with the whole "white boy" comment in the first movie that Shuri said.

But I don't think this has to do about fragility when you consider the crazy climate we're in now. So you have to ask yourself, are they joking?
It's used as a continuation from the first movie, the only white person called colonizer is Everett Ross as a joke.

It looks like a Playstation 1 CGI graphics

Yes.

You must have went to the washroom when

She ingested the Black Panther herb, spoke to Killmonger, and punched an armored model across the room with a punching force that's way stronger than Captain America, after waking back up.

Usually height and weight leave the conversation when you have super strength and a super suit. At that point either it's a battle of wills between two supers or the super always beating the human.

I agree though that Riri's character arc was severely undercooked, but I'm thinking they will expand it elsewhere which is why I was more forgiving of that aspect.

No I didn't go to the bathroom.
None of what you said changes anything in how ridiculous all that looked. I think it works fine in cartoons and comics, but it takes a new level of suspended disbelief in live action because of how off it looks

They clearly had Spanish speakers in the writer's room in some capacity, seeing as how there is a good amount of Spanish in the movie... but not one of them spoke up and said "this explanation for Namor's name is stupid and doesn't really make sense"?

Works fine for me. Its a nice way to tie his general disposition to the name he chose.

Namors native tongue isn't even Spanish, he simply took that phrasing and attributed it to himself. It's likely he didn't even know what it meant at first.

It was a neat little detail.

From now on there are going to be a bunch of dumbass zoomers who think Namor actually means "without love" lmao
Why would they be dumbasses for thinking something in a movie applies? Considering most including much of gen Y wouldn't even know who this guy is supposed to be?

This is such a strange sentiment. and its hardly butchering the language either considering the line is spoken delivered and read by a native Spanish speaker lol. This is a wierd thing to get offended at

I guess we will disagree on this. If the kid from brightburn, or the kid from The Boys, or even child Clark Kent himself started throwing people into space and blowing up everything with laser eyes I'm not going to be sitting there thinking about suspended disbelief and wondering why this overpowered being is throwing around adults like toys, I'm going to be thinking "holy shit this person is scarily powerful."

The only thing that looked silly to me(powers wise) in the movie was when

Namor kept using his special helicopter spinning throw move.

BTW anyone else getting a bit tired of these movies with sanitized violence?
You got people being impaled by spears left and right, slashed with huge blades, and there isn't a single drop of blood in the whole movie lol.
I think that hurt the sense of "immersion" for me more than anything else.
Oh yeah and people getting stabbed thru the gut and then just walking off like it was just a flesh wound. And it happened twice in the movie.

It's not a neat little detail, it's something that the non-Hispanic writers thought up because they attended Spanish 101 in high school and thought "hey amor means love right? Maybe we can work that into the script for his name!" Which is why I said that their Spanish consultants should have spoken up.

It's not even pronounced that way by most characters in the movie FFS. Most characters pronounce his name "Naymor", which implies that it was something the writers thought up late in the production process and it shows. It's right up there with BvS's "why did you say that name?" moment, where it only sounds somewhat clever on paper.

From what I understand, Namor's name is literally just Roman backwards. And you know what? That's fine - you don't need to come up with some dumb explanation that doesn't really make sense based on your limited Spanish knowledge. But alas, that's what they did.

And who said anyone was upset? I was in the middle of the movie when it happened, I laughed about it because it was dumb, and came to post here before I finished watching.

ANYWAY, the movie itself was okay. I'll probably write up thoughts about it later when I have time.

Marvel YT critics have theorized that this Namor is this way because of rights issues, it seems if they make enough changes to the character(like 25%?) Disney Marvel gets full royalties of this version of the character.

I honestly don't have a problem with the changes, because I have no affinity towards Namor as a character (or Aquaman, for that matter - it's just an aesthetic that doesn't gel with me I guess). Hell, as someone who actually has Mayan blood, I should be ecstatic at the representation that Disney has given me and my people, but representation hasn't ever affected the way I buy things so... whatever? lol

The 'issue' (which isn't really an issue, just an observation) is simply that the name explanation isn't as clever as they think it is. Again, it feels like it was conjured up by someone who isn't fluent in Spanish.

In case some folk still don't understand the issue I'll try to explain this in relation to another character: Batman. Let's imagine that he's explaining the origin of his name to Robin. "The last criminal left standing was in horror and proclaimed... 'you're like a bat man!' And so, from that moment forward, I called myself.... ATMAN" No, that's not a typo. That's exactly what the Namor scene is like for native spanish speakers lol. Hopefully I've explained myself clearly this time...

As someone who speaks Spanish yeah that was cringey. Funny thing is Namor isn't even speaking Spanish in the film. I don't know if that's actual Mayan, Nahuatl or some other mesoamerican language he's speaking but it's not Spanish.

I guess it could be explained away as him picking up Spanish from the Conquistadors still a cringey as fuck explanation.

It has nothing to do with using the language correctly with in that instance. Namor didnt even know the language when he heard the phrase as a boy. Its deliberately taken as a title by someone who didn't know spanish. He took it as a title. Which is why the "spanish consultants" didnt say anything because there's nothing to say. I mean therds plenty of similar examples of this, names are often thematic rather than logical.

LOL "racism of low expectations" haz de ser guerito, malinchista o las dos cosas guey

I am quoting this again so the non mexicans can understand what was said here and to illuminate a bit on mexican social interaction.

"Güerito" means whiter skinned mexican, usually with more European features. In this context, it was said with a sort of negative connotation, to try to imply that a person looks down on darker skinned people.

"Malinchista" means someone that admires western made products or culture and looks down on his own mexican heritage. Basically it means traitor to your own country. These types of accusations come from people with a deep seated inferiority complex, which can be quite prevalent in certain sectors of our population.

This does irritate a bit, since in this person's mind, a Mexican asking a Mexican actor to do his job and look the part for a comic book hero is akin to being a racist and betraying your country and hating your own people. It's incredibly silly, isn't it?

You're still with this? I don't see you complaining about Letitia wright not being jacked, did you complain about Natalie Portman not being jacked for Thor? How about Christian Bale as Gorr? If Ryan Coogler didn't have a problem with his physique why do you?

Yea im a novice at Spanish and ig thats what he's seeing thats kinda messed up.

Tenoch huerta did really really well.

To YOU! Folks were genuinely sad when Chadwick Boseman died .. that probably means fuck all to you but to a lot of people it was truly emotionally sad. A lot of people cried when he passed away. Just like folks cried when Robin Williams died.

The man made an impact in the short time he was on this world... It doesn't matter if his life and performances didn't affect YOU... But they affected others. His passing is FELT in this movie.

I don't expect you or some others to understand that.

Which is completely understandable. But the movie is trash and made me nearly fall asleep twice while watching it. The only saving grace was the scenes with Namor and even then they fucked those up quite often.

Plus having an openly racist character as BP is, to use your vernacular, “A bad look”. But hey, it’s just a joke guys. Racism is fine in the context of jokes! /s

Appealing to authority when facing a concise rebutal is the first recourse of the weak minded. Usually progressives like to capture authority to further agendas they cannot justify with logic or reason. I don't care at all about the director's opinion, because the product is for the audience, I'm entitled to an opinion on mass market products, and a flabby lazy man is subpar for the role.

Now, I'd like you to justify how this opinion makes me a racist and a traitor to the country. Justify those serious accusations.

Does Ross look like he gives a shit? Hell, they saved his ass at the end while he was being arrested by the country he had served his whole life, so it would be pretty stupid for him to take offense to the “colonizer” line at the moment. If Shuri and Okoye were actually racist, they wouldn’t be potentially putting their country under more fire from the U.S. by saving the man who was currently being arrested for treason (since they could have been spotted or people will immediately suspect Wakanda saved him due to his relationship with him).

But yes, Shuri is clearly being racist towards the white man. Risking her entire nation to save him from a potentially lifetime sentence, what a racist bitch she is.

Hey man, if you want to dismiss racism as being just a “joke”, then so be it. Shit wasn’t funny in the first movie and it isn’t funny here. But we both know if the situations were reversed, you and your thickheaded buddies would be throwing hissy fits and asking for the movie to be banned and writer to be ostracized. “Rules for thee and not for me” tends to be your ideological code.

Just saw it, very disappointing; a boring nothingburger that clearly suffers from heavy rewrites to make it all about boseman's death.
Complete meh.

By all means, I’m sure Martin Freeman is so happy you’re white knighting for him. Poor dude was probably bawling after every take of that scene, you’re truly a hero for sticking up for him.

Seriously, pull your head out of your ass. Also, learn what racism is. Ross is a high level representative of the US. A country, that like many countries, is guilty of “colonizing” throughout its history. While Wakanda might be criticized for staying uninvolved in global concerns for millenia, it obviously is completely guilt free when it comes to colonizing. So this has nothing to do with race, at most you could call it xenophobia.

But hey, it is ridiculous, it’s not like in the MCU, any modern countries are doing shady shit to Wakanda? …oh, France just hired mercenaries to steal from Wakanda…

whoops GIF

And learn how character development works. In the first movie, she is concerned that they just let in a man who works for the government of one of the most powerful nations in the world. In the second, they clearly use the line in a more affectionate way and don’t mean anything mean by it. You butting in with your “but that’s racist!” bit is stupid as hell. If a black friend of mine ever jokingly referred to me as “white boy” or something like that, and you randomly butted in to protest, we would both tell you to fuck off. We may be “thick headed” according to you but at least we also have thick skin unlike you.

And of course, protesting the movie moment is FAR more stupid as she is SAVING HIM FROM POSSIBLY BEING IN JAIL FOR LIFE AND RISKING HER NATION IN DOING SO. What part of that is not sinking in?

Cut It Out Reaction GIF

Also, notice how she never referred to Klaue, who is also white but not with any government and just wants money, as a “colonizer”?

Wow the worst phase 4 film? I think thats kinda harsh. Worse than the vomit inducing Thor 4?

I havent seen all the Phase 4 stuff(couldnt bother with eternals and shangchi), but i think this one had the best action, and probably the most impressive visual effects. And arguably the best acting. If anything they did a great job with Namor and his underwater city.

In fact in hindsight it might be remembered as the best Phase 4 film than the overrated fan service that is No Way Home.

Of the phase IV movies Ive only seen Thor and Shang-Chi. I hated Thor, Shang-Chi was funny and alright I liked it but Wakanda Forever is way better than those 2. I haven't watched Dr Strange yet.
I just remembered I watched Spider-Man also that was pretty good but I liked Wakanda Forever better.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
It really goes telling that big budget movies get worse CGI as we continue.

Having said that, watched this a few days ago and was, for lack of spoilers, rather un-Marvel in character. I took that as a good thing because i got tired of the tried and tested formula.

It is definitely different and sometimes that's alright.

-Come into the thread and call the movie a complete meh nothingburger
-Asked to compare to other phase 4 movies for elaboration and reasonable discussion
-Refuse to elaborate
-Take defensive stance when no one was attacking
-Asked again about phase 4 movie
-Ignore question and compare it to a phase 1 movie
-Refuse to elaborate a second time
-Leaves(?)

Fixed that for you.
Jesus Christ, could you be any more thin skinned? Do you need a tissue and a therapy session? Your insecurity is oozing out of every post you've made in this thread. It was a joke, the intentions were not hateful, people laughed, get over it already. Its a throwaway joke in a 2.5 hour movie and here you are throwing a fit about it.

Why are all of these movie threads always devolving into the same shit lately? Some character makes some throwaway joke or statement, people take this as their 'hook' to label it woke/SJW/garbage, and then they fill up these threads with endless, whiny, childish posts about how offended they are and how the whole movie is trash.

Earlier this year we had a never ending flood of garbage posts on The Batman's thread, because Catwoman hurt people's feelings, completely derailing any possible conversation on that movie, and now the same thing is happening here.

These anti-woke babies are becoming just as annoying and fragile as the people they're supposedly opposing.

To be honest it's always the same few people.
It's fine to like these movies, but the militant way how they attack everybody who is getting tired of watching the same tired superhero formula is really getting on my nerves.
