The amount of folks that shield this dude from literally any criticism is mind boggling to me lol

He is CLEARLY fumbling this rollout of whatever this is supposed to be. If this was anyone else was in this predicament you wouldn't have anyone denying it

  1. Made a formal offer to buy the company for more than it was worth
  2. Realized his error, attempted to tank deal
  3. Found out that he could not tank the deal, either in public or court, forced to buy
  4. Immediately lays off the heads of the company, essentially throwing things into disarray
  5. Lays off half the company, including most of the moderation and ethics teams, forcing advertisers to pause spending and query Musk about it
  6. Musk blocks advertisers asking him the very questions he posed, basically confirming their fears
  7. Musk realizes he laid off most of his subject matter experts and other specialists, forcing him to try to hire them back days after laying them off
  8. Is told by the entire world Twitter Blue is a bad idea, goes ahead with it anyways
  9. Is made a fool of by the entire world thanks to Twitter Blue. Revokes it
It has been a rushed, haphazard comedy of errors from the start.

You know, it must be nice being born so wealthy (fucking South African mining, walk around with gems in your pocket as a child, wealthy) you could buy yourself into companies and make yourself look really smart and become the richest man in the world. Given this entire affair appears to be the first time Musk has ever actually tried to do something himself rather than paying actually smart people to do things for him, he's revealed that he's actually no genius at all. Just another rich guy with too much money and a lack of empathy for others.

It's USER generated content and nobody associates ads with the content. Twitter hosts porn for crying out loud. Game companies do it all the time. Post an unflattereing critique of a product and there goes the marketing dollars. Culture wars definitely play a part with marketing dollars for some companies.

Oh, people most certainly do associate advertisers with an entity's content. It's unavoidable. Racy content like porn is only offensive to some people, not all. It's when actual hate is openly accepted that advertisers rightfully become concerned. Rejecting bigotry, racism, homophobia, etc, isn't "culture war". It's just basic human decency. Which even soulless corporations can acknowledge and abide by.

Edit: these memes write themselves

Same could be said for folks like you who need to constantly “celebrate” every perceived win because you have a massive hate boner for the guy.
Im not celebrating anything fam. Im commenting on it like anyone else. Like holy cow man, you dont need to defend the guy this hard. His grand kids that dont exist yet are already richer than ill ever be. He can survive a few comments that aren't fellating him.

Even if this wasn’t a hilarious mess, which it is, you would still be trying to whine/bitch/moan about anything he does.
You're projecting. Hes being called out for dumb decisions because he keeps making them. That osnt a "hate boner" that isnt an "agenda" its literally reacting to the asinine stuff hes trying to pull. Nothing more. Theres is no justification for you defending this guy as if I declared death and woe upon all who support him.

I like the part where people dogpile on the megarich like they never make mistakes along the way. It's what they learn from those mistakes and put into action for positive financial results. It will be a long time, if ever, Twitter makes its money back. The guy can be a real idiot and just get in his own way in the public eye. He is of a technical nature and delivers results, it's not the sort of person I'd want to become to be rich or so influential globally. Very few people changed big things by being nice.

Realistically not all businesses are knocked out of the park and into orbit homeruns. Musk has hit winners with PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink and perhaps Neurolink in the future so for now it's likely best to wait and see what eventuates. For now it's a boneheaded distraction and probably his worst misstep he won't be able to walk away from quickly or easily. Advertising isn't something for the Ol' Musk brand and toolset IMO. The public are too divisive with him for such a role and posterchild of "free speech platform and global adjudicator while I own everything".

Disruptors don't know how to temper their output and often persevere beyond logical receding.

Being a hard-nosed business person is one thing. It's a completely different thing to buy a massive tech company then proceed to layoff people for no tangible reason - people who sacrificed much of their lives and worked hard as hell to become engineers / scientists / etc good enough to be hired into big tech. All while antagonizing them and insulting them like a fucking teenager.

The guy is an incompetent, cruel asshole. Now the entire world knows as it's on grand display.

Maybe it's because I was raised Catholic (I.E. forcefully taught the teachings of Christ), or maybe it's just because I am a good person with morals and compassion for others. But I cannot see how anyone defends such an openly cruel person.

Edit: I have not been wrong yet in this weird saga, and as I predicted earlier....

I mean who could have imagined? A complete idiot who treats all others like worthless pawns is running a company into the ground when he isn't being checked by caring, intelligent people. Who would have thought?

Do tell what I am projecting? I'm not the idiot who publicly spent $44B to run the business into the ground within a week.

So what is it exactly I could be projecting?

Do I like the guy? Indifferent. Do I like his products? Yes. Would I work for him? Nope.

I wouldn't have worked for an asshole like Steve Jobs either. I also work hard to not become one of these asshats, probably why we're not billionaires mate.

Do I give a shit about Twitter? Nope. Do I feel for people losing their jobs? Yep. I also understand corporate cuts to get out of the red. Most of these billionaires are far out of touch from everyday reality.
