IGN/NXGamer | God of War Ragnarok Performance Review: PS5 vs PS4 Pro vs PS4

For the most part, resolution and performance is key difference between PS5 and PS4 versions. Interesting to hear that PS5 specifically is using machine learning to improve resolution. This is why we might see performance mode have an edge in picture quality than native 4k (John from DF mentioned this earlier on twitter). Sounds very DLSS like. Good stuff.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
PS5

Favor resolution: 2160p 30fps
Favor performance: Dynamic 4K at 60 FPS
Dynamic HFR Resolution: 1800p/40 FPS
Dynamic HFR Performance: 1440p targeting 120 fps

PS4 Pro

Resolution: 1440p-1660p 30 FPS
Performance: 1080p~1660p 60 FPS

PS4

1080p 30 FPS

Care to share where John shared this on twitter? Not finding it

then it's weird that machine learning is being brought up

So even on last gen machines the IQ is better now than it was in GoW and its 2160p Checkerboard solution? Curious... It that case it's too bad Santa Monica didnt use this temporal upsampling technique in their previous game too. Not that it looked bad, of course, but...

I'll always choose 40fps but its weird that the res drops from the standard fidelity mode, i know with Ratchet it was like for like. Is there no overhead with the standard fidelity mode? I wonder if it was unlocked what fps we could get.

Amazing that they were able to squeeze so much performance out of the old PS4 and then PS4 Pro.

Get your ear plugs boys it's time to take the PS4 Pro for one last trip to wherever the fuck it's jet engine thinks it's going.

When I get my copy, I'll run it a few minutes in the performance mode and record a video for GAF lol

I think its FSR 2.0 since they got it on pc for GOW 2018.

It may be, but FSR doesn't require Machine Learning to do its job, so it's a bit weird anyways. I'm really looking forward to see what John from DF was able to find out about this matter.

Is it a real 60FPS on Pro or an extremely variable 60FPS like the first game?

But I thought PS5 couldn't do machine learning. Lol
Nobody said that, it's just hard truth that consoles don't have dedicated ML cores, which are cut down regular GPU cores.

if it's trolling then I apologize, but someone can read this and learn something new

every GPU can do machine learning, the question is how well it can accelerate the process.

XeSS runs like shit on old GPUs, runs ok on newer GPUs and runs by far the fastest on Intel's own GPUs for example.
Yes, I know, I'm mocking those statements that were made earlier in the generation. PS5 has proven capable of doing ML inference at runtime in 2 games now at reasonable performance.

AI upscaling/reconstruction on a console game what? I thought we would have to wait for PS6 or a mid gen refresh for that

Actually It was on average >50fps and often 50fps during combat.

the first one? most certainly not... maybe in the smaller areas and the starting area, but later in the game it often was barely above 30fps.

of course it should be played in the unlocked mode no matter what due to the horrendous input lag the 30fps mode had, but it was far from stable.

That's what the VRR target helps with. Stable or not it will not be as discernable.

Speaking on the modern games like this.
