PlayStation Plus has lost 1.9 million subscribers since relaunch; revenue is up, however

Or, or or, because we leave in conspiracy theory land. Is this another dirty tactic form Play Station to make a point they cannot compete against Game Pass?

No. But that is not he point I am making. The point is about losing this amount of subscribers (regardless of how people interact with your ecosystems).

I am bringing Netflix because they have like 200M subscribers right?

So 200,000 of 200M ain't that big.

2M of 60M is a huge.
The big thing about netflix wasn't the number itself, but their first down in subscriptions since the launch ten years ago. It was more about the end of the growth that shocked them.
If you look at PS Plus number you can easily see that they really can't grow to much above ~40ish millions, they are too much bondend by hardware and 40-50ish is actually their point of saturation with that kind of service. Actually they had some downs in some quarters already. PSPlus had almost the same price strategy for ten years, limited growth limited by hardware sales, they are experiencing a generational shift between hardware and, more importantly, subscription isn't their main revenue.
You can't compare numbers without context

MS reaches 28% sub growth instead of 73%: ten pages of doomposting.

Sony loses 4% of their total subs in a quarter where they revamped their offer: nothingburger.
Not since Sony has seen these drops before and expects them

Revenue is the big takeaway here

Sony is fine

And as far as Game Pass growth goes so they fell short of their "goals" many companies do

Again its nothing

Feel like most people are missing the big picture here.

Free-to-play online games do not require a PS+ subscription to play. That includes Overwatch 2, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Genshin Impact, Destiny 2 (to a point), Fall Guys, Rocket League, R6 Siege.

That is half of the top 16 most played games on PSN, including the #1 game, Overwatch 2.

As these games get bigger and bigger, there will be less and less people who require a PS+ sub overall.

I considered signing up recently for MWII but it was £30 for 3 months, worked out cheaper to get it on Xbox with 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate. They really should offer better value for people who don't game online all year round.

¥ is a lot weaker than $ though. It's even weaker than € (which is close to its all-time low in relation to the $). From that perspective,
It's always been weaker since the beginning of global economic time. Even Euro and Pounds are down and almost even to USD at some points the last several weeks.

MS earnings are even more impressive.
We know this is what you really wanted to say, so you should have just not wasted all this fluff to get there.

Active users on playstation network are also down: https://www.statista.com/statistics/272639/number-of-registered-accounts-of-playstation-network/

Hmmmm weird considering extra is so much better than now and reg plus were. But the revenue is up significantly so prob lost some reg ps plus subs.

Pet Peeve of mine, but Xcloud (Whatever its name is now) works off Series X consoles. Conversely there aren't any PS5 games on the cloud and the PS4 games work off the old PS4. Not even sure if there are Pro benefits.

No idea if this changed recently, but it makes cloud gaming on PS Plus a lot less appealing than on GamePass.

Cloud gaming is never appealing.

They report in Yen and it has decreased vs usd since their last finacials, so money made in the us is getting more yen per usd.

No shit. And you can also get more Euro and British pounds than ever before as well. If one's haven't noticed, the world is in an economical and currency clusterfuck.

Doesn't ps5s comes with free ps plus codes or that isn't a thing?

Also subscription models "failing" is so good to see.

I can absolutely guarantee you that losing 1.9 million subscribers immediately after relaunching your service is not a good thing.
No but if it’s within expected forecasts with respect to retention rates then it’s fine. Again, we have no way of knowing.

They gathering something like 50 million subs extremely fast. It stands to reason to have consumers leave when they try and decide it’s not their thing.

The real key is if it becomes a consistent loss or part of a larger fluctuation.

Of course revenue is up, they just introduced 2 higher priced tiers. This isn't surprising at all.
but also, the subscriber decrease was primarily only from PS4, they stated that PS5 has a higher % of subs versus user base than they've seen before.

Honestly, makes sense consumers don't want it on PS4 anymore, the console is old, slow and at its limits. But, if trends continue sub growth could come from growing the PS5 user base and selling more units.

I'll be letting my PS+ lapse. Fighting games were the only reason I had a subscription and crossplay is becoming the norm. Three tiers is too complicated for such a barebones service.

I think the biggest issue with PS+ is the tiered system. It is confusing for consumers as to what tier gets what things. It would probably help if they did two tiers. I haven't had Plus for a while, and see no reason to get it.

If they believe that subscription plans and streaming is the future like in 'ready Player one' then they have to move their hasses. Improve the offerings both in base and higher tiers, improve the marketing quality, add value with features like share play only possible with the service (cloud tech dependent).
If they believe this kind of services is not going anywhere in the future, just like in movies like world War Z and 2012,... Then carry on.

I mean, expected in some ways since the covid boom but also I guess it's a sign that ps extra and premium needs to be looked at. They can make it better.

it works for some, it doesn't work for others. That's just how it goes. I didn't renew my PS+ subscription because honestly I just haven't been using it, so why keep it? I'm sure I'll get it again, but right now? Nah, I'm good.

These numbers aren't going to negatively affect Sony, they'll be just fine.
