the model looks so fucking ugly.
why are character models so hard to get right on most (not all ofcourse, ND's models are amazing) western studios?
is it just bad taste or what?

iu

Even SH3 in engine models look better to me than the ones shown on the trailer, aesthetically ofcourse, there is no question that tech has come a long way since.
If anything, i think the DMCV character models look more in line with the aesthetics needed here.

Get your eyes checked.

You can barely even see it to judge this completely man.

You keep saying the creatures and environment look "so clean" yet you literally post a screenshot of a dirty street and a monster clouded in fog. You're confusing the difference between low resolution textures and high resolution textures as "less dirty".

Yea let me make an extra effort so you can actually tell what is wrong here .

The original trilogy always have these creatures drenched with dried bloods , mutilated skins , veins popping out and looks completely otherworldly . The ones we had from the new promo materials exhibit none of these , they look more like human dressing up with budget cosplay .

The character model is absolutely fine, it’s just a different look than the original

Yeah. Wasnt Phil tweeting about how he was in Japan every few weeks? Like how do you get outbid by Sony here?

I dont know why Sony would give it to a third party studio like bloober. I can see it being a package deal with a movie, but wouldve expected a first party or a sony centric studio to make this game. Not bloober.

Either way. This does not look good for Phil who lost Forspoken, FF7, FF16, Rise of the Ronin, or for Jim Ryan who is trying to make a case that exclusives are bad.

Im just glad it looks next gen after seeing Dead Space, Gotham Knights, TLOU, and Need for Speed even though they are next gen only. This is what you can do with these GPUs if you simply choose not to target native 4k.
What makes you think Sony had anything to do with contracting Bloober? Isnt it just a third party exclusive for a year?

And how on earth does any of this reflect on Phil Spencer? Someone made a one-year exclusive deal, so what.

And Bloober are great, and have always been great. At least from Blair Witch and on to the Medium Ive really loved their games. Theyve just been weaponised in the console war because of their exclusive deals with Xbox.

Im not sure it looks much better than Medium either. But it looks great.

Actually, Im arguing that Sony didnt have anything to do with Bloober. They went to Konami and paid for the exclusive like they do with other third party publishers.

Corndog was mad Phil let yet another game go timed exclusive. Im just agreeing with him. MS with their $75 billion war chest should not be getting outbid by sony on so many of these japanese games.

To me, the original character is iconic and i have never even played the game. Just that shot of him staring in the mirror is ingrained in my memory so I immediately had a dislike for the new character model.

However, it clearly looks better and i ended up coming around to it by the end. Looks way better in other lighting conditions.

I’m surprised there are people who like the graphics. To me stylistically it looks very cartoony and slightly cel-shaded for a Silent Hill game. In terms of fidelity it is OK but nothing groundbreaking, Sony’s first-party cross-gen games are way better looking.

What have they done to my handsome James?

#notmyjames
Agreed, actually. NuJames is a bit of a step down from model tier Chad OldJames. OldJames looks younger, has a sharp square chad jaw, and no real wrinkles. NuJames looks like a bit of a wuss. He's crying in like every shot (seriously, he's constantly in tears lmao) and he looks old as shit. OldJames looked like he'd be capable of some serious shit. His bathroom scene set the tone in a completely different way. It was unnerving.

Jokes aside, I'm still excited. It just needs a bit more time in the oven. There are a few other things that are off. Pyramid Head and the bubble nurses look too clean. Fuck their skin up a bit.

That might be cause they change after damage, likely in real time as they get hurt by you... You also didn't see every single last enemy in the game to know some are not um "drenched with dried blood".

So you are over reacting this shit a bit too much man.

Go play the original then, have fun with all the dried blood, you'll have a buffet of dried blood while everyone else plays the remake. All the dried blood you can eat lol

There's nothing "Wrong" here. Not all Nurses in Silent Hill 2 look like the one you posted. They have different character models in different states of cleanliness or wear. Some of them look closer to the way they look in the remake.

The second picture remains a bad comparison. The enemy is partly clouded and it's not at all clear if this is supposed to be the exact same enemy. Either way, the phrase "so clean" clearly doesn't apply here.

Looks ok i guess.

Way too clean and gamey though. Nothing really stands out as vaguely interesting in this teaser.
And that fucking floating hair is one of the things i hate most in 3D renderings. I thought we were passed those times when they'd say: now let's impress everyone with some floating hair..oh teh graphics 🙄

Agreed.

With deals like this, its hard to say. With how little Konami has done over the past generation or so, I think its within reason to believe Sony stepping in might be we this exist at all. Maybe Sony flipping the bill for development, marketing cost etc also had Konami in charge of contracting a team or something of their choice.

Its hard to say really.

I wonder if Sony is providing technical help to Bloober and this is a glimpse of next gen exclusive quality to come…?

Only thing that looks a little too animated is the hair
They had a blogpost on the PSN blog and while they raved about Dualsense, SSD and 3D audio, they gave no shout outs to PS devs. I think this is simply due to how easy it is to use UE5. All the assets are available for free thanks to quixel megascans. You just have to apply yourself and actually develop your game for next gen specs.

This trailer was probably created in under 2 years after they shipped the medium in jan 2021. Epic has been constantly talking about how it just takes days to create environments and how you can simply pull models and assets from quixel. Its supposed to make game dev way more efficient. It's why I wanted Sony first party to switch to it since they seem to be struggling to get games out fast.

I think the hair rendering, the incredible fog effects and the CG quality character models are basically bloober putting in the work, but everything else looks like stock UE5 assets. If Bloober can get games to look this good, I think ND, SSM, and GG will easily get to Matrix quality graphics and top it. I keep telling people to expect the Unity Enemies and Lion king demo graphics for next gen. This is what C tier studios are capable of doing with next gen hardware.

Omg hahahahaha I just saw this WTF this looks like some low budget cosplaying with a leotard ICANT hahahahaha :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: Fuck this I'm sorry but my expectation is so low now they have no idea what Silent Hill is .

Meh. Nothing a little film grain (not overly done) and properly calibrated TV can't fix. If you have a good TV you should be able to fine tune/customize this game to fit your style pretty easily.

30 seconds and BAM it looks grittier and messier. To each their own though.

That sounds about right. Konami and Bloober announced a partnership at the end of June of last year. This is probably when development started as well.

Nah, the city is definitely too clean. Everything feels like it was either just dry cleaned or power washed. Streets should have far more litter. Neil and Bruce once talked about how they kept annoying the artists because they would get all this beautiful art and reject it for being too pretty for a world like TLOU. They forced all their artists to ugly up the world.

SH2 was probably ugly becuase of the hardware limitations of the PS2 but it worked. Thats the game people remember and it added to the atmosphere. Bloober is probably just too green to realized this.

Looks amazing, but I'll wait and see how combat works cuz they need to build it from the ground up and it needs to be somewhat modern when it comes to cold weapons, pipes etc. - Bloober don't have experience on that front based on their games.

I'ma have to call bullshit on this.

First, its never a good idea to force any team to use an engine. You all know how much like love Battlefield.....that doesn't fucking mean I support EA making some of those teams use Frostbite. That might work great for DICE, not so much everyone else so they calmed down with that and it was for the better. It doesn't mean Frostbite is shit, it doesn't mean UE5 is shit, it means Sony's first party should switch to WHAT EVER THEY WANT, what ever they work well with, that is what they should use.

Thats it.

Next, I see no evidence that anything using UE is suddenly going to have games come "out fast" as even the top titles in development using it, are still years off and the titles that used other versions of it in the past, still had development times that mirror other teams, I'd even argue that in house engines likely can get the work done faster in some situations if the team is use to some work set up.

Days Gone literally fucking took damn near 7 years to release
Spiderman on PS4 runs on a in house engine, same with Ratchet and we have Spiderman 2 coming next year.

Using this logic, someone should be putting out their shit faster then Insomniac =)

So I'm hype for what UE5 will bring to gaming too, but games can take a long time to make and i don't see much to suggest UE5 will be that shift or something to make it faster, I'd argue it might be AI in general regarding game development. The stuff coming out regarding 3D design with AI is fucking insane and likely will cause a massive shift much more then UE5 ever would.

Where the heck do you people live where this is clean or power washed? Are you all from New York or something?

nah that looks too rich, is this the fucking suburbs of Hollywood? Cause it looks like the median income is like $50 mill plus. Notice how they have paved streets, electricity, paper is on that poll so they must have a printing press, automobiles so clearly they must have chauffeurs.... /s

The lack of blood on the streets and walls really stands out.

Check out this comparison.

I am a graphics whore so i dont mind the new car smell/look, but I can definitely see why some might complain. It's just a bunch of textures they can always add later in the dev cycle. You can always make something ugly after the fact.

Audio design in these games is really important. I remember buying Silent Hill 3 and couldnt last more than a few hours because of how intense the sound design was. The game's environments came alive thanks to the creepy soundtrack. Hope they dont muck that up after nailing the atmosphere.

In motion it really looks amazing. That little walking clip looks fucking immaculate. 30fps sexiness :messenger_sunglasses::messenger_smiling_hearts:

This could possibly be The Order moment of last gen.

Hopefully they nail the combat/gameplay as they did the atmosphere

Its funny cause even the fucking video you posted shows the very original looking very "clean" when its showing the car and him looking over the ledge. The fucking sidewalk looks damn near power washed and new, but the remake supposedly looks "clean"?

I want to use this video to highlight the nurse example that was cited earlier in this thread: The Nurse comparison at 4:40 shows what I mean: There are different models, they are in different states of wear. The Nurse in that example looks much closer to the new one in the remake.

I don't really understand the complaint about a lack of blood on the streets. In total, there is maybe 3 or 4 seconds in total where you can see the actual streets and pavement in the trailer. It's not like SH2's streets had blood on the streets in every spot: it was just on very specific spots. This doesn't suggest that it's not there.

Fine. What about the indoor rooms? One looks like a five star hotel while the other looks dirty and infested. Blood all over walls.

Either way, I dont really care tbh. The game looks next gen. Thats all i care about.

Sony keeps wasting money moneyhatting timed exclusivity for remakes made by trash tier developers. Guess they're just banking on the uninformed seeing the headline, "AMAZING OLD GAME BEING REMADE, PS5 CONSOLE EXCLUSIVE" and the marketing from that giving them enough of an edge in the console wars for the money they spent to have been worth it.

I don't really agree man. I see a BIG difference between the two. The original has blemishes/cuts/dirt, and her skin is grey, like she's a walking corpse. The new one looks like she's in perfect health. A bit of dirt, but a fully functioning circulatory system with some pink in her tone. She looks like someone cosplaying wiped a bit of dirt on themselves and put on a mask.

EDIT: I am a fan of the hotty panty hose edition though. Maybe for the wrong reasons LOL

What remakes have they moneyhatted outside of this one?

There is a big difference because the design is not 1 to 1. The original one has gray skin, whereas the new one looks more human like and is covered up more. I don't think there's a big difference in terms of wear though. I think the new design simply works better because it actually looks like a nurse now. I didn't even realize they were supposed to be nurses when I played the original SH2. I only learned that long after.

It's okay when Sony has exclusives, but not Xbox.
The last game from this very company was an Xbox timed-exclusive.
Scorn, another timed money-hat Xbox exclusive, just released earlier this week.
High on Life and Stalker 2 are two other money-hat, timed Xbox exclusives that were supposed to launch later this year but got delayed.

Out of the two, Sony isn't the only company doing this. But they are the only ones not buying multiplatform publishers and IPs and making those games exclusives.
