What time is it?

This games does NOT need a remake, its PERFECT.

Well, no matter what they do, the original will be superior. The original characters faces, voices, story, encounters, scenes, ATMOSPHERE...will never be replaced. The game is loved because of the original.

Buuuut, they can add cutted stuff from Silent Hill 2, Like Maria seducing James on Heaven's Night, James Carrying his wife in a hall after he killed her, Pyramid Head around the city streets in the night... That would be great to see.

Well, of course it's a day 1 for me...But this games its already a masterpiece, a remake is useless.

Damn I didn't expect a whole dump truck of Silent Hill content.

What's the deal with Konami? They under new management or something? It seemed like they weren't interested in video games for years, then all of a sudden there's this.

I dont know why Sony would give it to a third party studio like bloober. I can see it being a package deal with a movie, but wouldve expected a first party or a sony centric studio to make this game. Not bloober.

At the end of the day it’s still just a remake

Other Sony studios have enough in their plate

Bloober is good enough for this kind of project, in fact I’m glad Sony isn’t using their own studios for this

As a fan of the original as I'm sure so many of us are, I think the best thing for me is to set my expectations low and be extra critical of what I'm seeing.

It looks off to me. It's Silent Hill in character design, but the settings look off. The fog looks off.

I'm not sure what they would have to do to change that. I feel like the cleaner the image, they need to make the game look drearier, duller. More lived in. It looks like it lacks character.

I don't know. It's almost 3am here and my first impression wasn't great, but I am hoping for the best with this.

In Konami we trust? 😂

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Why would Sony use any of their studios on this, this isn't a first party game ..

I will agree there. SH2 is my favorite horror game, and one of the best games ever made. Never felt such dread playing a game before that stuck in my psyche for life.

Being cautiously optimistic, we can look at the remake as potentially being a great cover album of your favorite band(s).

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.

Anyone notice they seem to have given Maria a full jacket that doesn't show any skin (ie her belly)?

I thought part of the concept for her character was meant to be a more sexy (imagined) manifestation of Mary. Wonder if they'll still give her a choker necklace.

JK the remake looks cool to me

I think it will be great. What are Bloober teams weak points:

Story: They just copy what is there, I replayed Silent Hill 2 this year again and I can say that every scene in the trailer is a 1:1 copy from the original game.

Combat: I can confidently say, that SH2 has very poor combat and it also didn’t age well at all. Still it’s a beloved classic, so combat is not so important.

So for me it seems they just make a graphic and sound update, which they are not bad at.

Not every scene is 1:1 obviously, but digging what we seen so far, even when put side by side.

Judging from that trailer, It's already less creepy than the original. Unless that trailer is not at all representative of the visual direction of the game.
For starters, just look at the at bathroom scene. In the original, James's eyes are cast in stark shadow. Limitation of the technology or not, his acting is also much more unreadable, and uncanny. Right away, it's creepy af. In the new one? "Oh no look at me! Grief is written all over my face!"

Then there's the rest of the trailer. Rim lighting. Hero lighting. Dramatic swooping camera moves. Way too bright despite being overcast. Yeah, no. Does it look "good" in the technical sense? Sure. But the kind of cinematography style they're using existed back in the days of SH2, the developers just chose not to do it that way. SH2's cinematics always went for something unnatural, camera angles, odd framing. This new one lacks all of that already.

Overblown. Just how Hollywood remakes of classic J-horror films.

The look of the game reminded me of the medium especially the part in the forest. It almost like they reused the same assets.

Considering the track record of the teams making these games, and you know...Konami, I'm gonna wait on reviews for all of these.

There's zero risk for them here, they literally need to hand the studio the money, give them a copy of RE2 from the PSX, a copy of the RE2 Remake and a copy of the original Silent Hill 2.

Judging by the trailer story nuance is out the fucking window. James openly mentions Mary is already dead and it seems he also acknowledges Maria isn't real...

Yeah for sure, and i already have a...rant: The way Pyramid Head walks... like a thug ? Wtf ? It's not scary at all. Hes also too clean, no blood on his clothes and no veins...

Look the way he walks in the original, disjointed, dirty...;

The perfect time to bring this game back, can't wait. Hope they're not just cash grabbing on the success of the Resident Evil remakes, I can see how one would be tempted to emulate their strategy.

ikr, cause we never heard of remakes 20 years ago and Konami just didn't know they could do that /s

That actually looks good. Way better than Mediocre. I mean Medium.
You say this now, wait till they announce that PS4 version lol Oh its timed exclusive......to PS4 lol

But IF this is realtime then questions must be asked. Why is it that fucking Team Bloober is showing better graphics than ALL of the so-called AAA first party studios across both MS and Sony studios. IF this is realtime that is.

? Well this is a different publisher, thus more funding and I'm not even sure if this team directly did some of those models, it wouldn't shock me if Konami had some of their own talent re-create those characters or something as some times that is actually outsourced.

So I get The Medium is a ugly ass game, but I also doubt it was actually "next gen" from the get go as it literally looks like its a last gen game and they merely cancelled the last gen versions like we saw from a few games last gen or even with that new Gotham game.

You clearly know that is a game that was cross gen ie more last gen then next gen and it doesn't have PS4 or XONE versions anymore, for all you know that is what happened with that Medium game or something, but Silent Hill 2 remake might be from the ground up, a legit next gen title.

Fuck why did i click that spoiler tag... i was expecting a joke answer
If it makes you feel any better, that's not actually about the main character. There's A LOT more to it, so you aren't spoiled as bad as you think you are. Let me edit that post to at least give people a heads up. That was my fault, and I seriously apologize.

They saw Capcom making a mint off of RE remake after remake. Probably FF7R too.

Damn some people on Gaf are really down on Bloober Team. lol was The Medium that bad?
The foundation is pretty much set for them already. They would have to go out of their way to fuck this up tbh.
Observer is the only good game they've made.

This is great for SH fans. I do wonder if it would have been better to create a new story rather than another remake.

You laugh, but damn did that hit my nostalgia bone. SH is the earliest instance I can remember of being exposed to film grain, and it's the only time I've ever liked it (it made the fog look better back then and hit a lot of the graphical problems, making things weirdly look more "real").

I legit wouldn't mind a (slightly less overdone lmao) filter like that in game just to do a playthrough or two with it.

I don't know why but the original looks so much creepier than this.
Nostalgia can play tricks on the mind. What made the original so creepy was sound design the ost and the audio fx. Graphically was superb too. But the creepiness came from audio all the way.

Some looks good , mostly terrible . I don't know why are the creatures and environment looking so clean , like are you supposed to be terrified on that bubble head or ...

Omg hahahahaha I just saw this WTF this looks like some low budget cosplaying with a leotard ICANT hahahahaha :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: Fuck this I'm sorry but my expectation is so low now they have no idea what Silent Hill is .

Ah yes, the famous studio "Not Bloober". It's interesting to see people keep hating on Bloober but then apparently unable to mention a realistic alternative.

Silent Hill is a property owned by Konami. Not Sony.

This is the most CG face ive seen in a video game. These look like those Sony first party game ads for TLOU and Days Gone.

I legit thought these shots were CG. Amazing stuff by Bloober.

I wonder if Sony is providing technical help to Bloober and this is a glimpse of next gen exclusive quality to come…?

Only thing that looks a little too animated is the hair

This is the problem, Bloober clearly isn't going to make a worthwhile product but who else is Konami going to contract? It's not like they have much for internal development. Maybe shipping it to Sony or Capcom but for whatever reason that didn't happen

edit: ok watched some of the trailer

look I don't want to be a nitpicky bitch but the opening where a cockroach (eww! gross!) wonders around the toilets for a bit and then James comes in an hyperventilates over his hands while sweating profusely... sorry, did he just kill his wife five seconds ago? Did he just get the mysterious letter five seconds ago? He probably drove like a few hours out to Silent Hill and then stopped at a car park out of town, why is he having an anxiety attack lol

then the voice acting "mary died of that DAMN disease five years ago" good VA work there, doesn't sound like Shadow the Hedgehog at all

James saying "I don't need you anymore" while beating up a nurse is funny but it kind of works, good job to the trailer editor/s

Anyway my expectation is that this will suck ass

Nothing a little film grain can't fix
It's not about the film grain . The art direction lost alot of grunginess that defines Silent Hill . Creatures are supposed to be bloody and rusty , but they aren't now which made them looks more human-like

I mean have you even play the original Silent Hill trilogy before ? And does this even remotely looks like a Silent Hill creature ? It just looks like someone took a brief and cover it on the head .

Looks like they are trying to compete with Resident Evil. The Silent Hill franchise was getting buried by them as of late. I mean how many Resident evil titles came out when they announced Silent Hills Cancellation?
Not sure if the Silent Hill franchise will do well leaving Xbox in the dark, but then again it will be out on PC.

You can barely even see it to judge this completely man.

Zealots always say the most wild shit, telling us how the buttons on the jacket are not 100% exact lol So you didn't fucking complete this remake to then tell us what it is and isn't or something.

Lets wait till its actually out man..

Hit with classic gatekeep zealot cry "have you even play da original" and so forth.

You keep saying the creatures and environment look "so clean" yet you literally post a screenshot of a dirty street and a monster clouded in fog. You're confusing the difference between low resolution textures and high resolution textures as "less dirty".

I don't agree at all that they're not going to make a worthwhile product. Bloober has made decent games before, and mostly on a tight budget. Now they have a big publisher backing them and a very good blueprint for their next game. It already looks really good. At least it's a studio dedicated to horror games working on this title.

Shipping it to Sony would meant the game had to be permanently exclusive and obviously Capcom isn't going to work on someone elses horror franchise, when they have their own that is much more popular.

the model looks so fucking ugly.
why are character models so hard to get right on most (not all ofcourse, ND's models are amazing) western studios?
is it just bad taste or what?

iu

Even SH3 in engine models look better to me than the ones shown on the trailer, aesthetically ofcourse, there is no question that tech has come a long way since.
If anything, i think the DMCV character models look more in line with the aesthetics needed here.
