Been using my kids while at work setting up a immense library for him with everything from yuzu/ryujinx to slime rancher 2 and SKyrim( a little pain to setup in the beginning)
for him to eventually play Dance of Fire and Ice (0_-).

currently warpinator-ing a few titles from my work PC plus Portal collection and Pathfinder, Wrath of Righteous for me later tonight.

what a great adult fidget spinner.

this is definitely something i want to get before i move to europe - i heard you can run most games on 30 at normal graphics settings but to run 60 you need to run medium to light. is this true? Also how is the modding scene for things like snes games? what is the most recommended model, etc? i was going to get the mid range one. how long did it take to ship to you that do have them? i heard it can run switch games better than the switch itself.
Regarding performance, it's generally great across the board. 30/40hz is feasible on just about every game and a huge amount reach 60 with no issues. Only the more demanding AAA games like RDR2/CP2077 will be impossible at 60. The resolution FSR scaler is your best tool hitting 60 fps. Personally battery life, fan noise and size of the thing will be of greater concern than performance.

Yes, mid-range version is the best but cheapest model is also fine since most games play well off MicroSD aswell. Shipping takes like a week.

Sounds pretty bad... but then you realise that they're more than likely significantly limited by manufacturing capacity.

They should have gone the Steam Machine's route, but with narrower hardware configuration options and let third parties like Samsung, Asus, Acer and Dell make their own versions of the hardware.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Cool.

I think it's a good number, specially considering it's a niche product and it's being sold on just one online platform, without any units on the wild.

They are going the opposite approach this time which should work well in their favor. Use their own hardware and marketing power to ready Steam OS3 for the mainstream. Once it looks pretty good to go, release it for consumers and other vendors to put Steam OS3 on non-Steam Deck hardware.

The major issue with Steam Machines was the OS simply was not ready and you couldn't play shit.

On top of that, no mainstream marketing. All Valve has done is market it on their own platform and relied on word of mouth. The fact it sold even a million shows how powerful their influence is over their Steam users.

It's a cool device. It's obviously not as user friendly as the Switch but having this awesome catalogue of games and being able to play them in various, different ways is pretty exciting and pretty cool. I'm a fan so far.

I put in an order for a steam deck a couple days ago, just shipped out today. So looks like they've fixed their supply issues

Only people pitting Steam Deck sales against Switch were idiots and Nintendo fanboys.
The fanboys will be excused if someone was dumb enough to tout the Deck as a Switch killer, or even as being able to remotely compete numbers-wise.
I have no doubt that the Deck is a solid piece of hardware. But there’s being delusional, and then there’s comparing the Deck to the Switch in any reasonable way. Some people have been the latter.

I've had mine for a couple weeks now and I absolutely love it, I'm on it for hours everyday.

(mostly playing Disney Dreamlight Valley... I'm, uh, 47 years old...)

That's not a good number.

You are right!
It is doomed! How will this complementary, non-necessary, Steam-store only product ever survive against the likes of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft!?

Hell, even THOSE consoles are dead! 100m consoles sold? That's like NOTHING compared to mobile phones! Why even produce consoles!?

That's how people sound that try to spin this as anything besides incredible numbers.

Who said Doomed?
I said that those numbers aren't good because... well they aren't.

You saying "Incredible numbers" is lol worthy.

1 million in 6 months is bad by console standards but seeing how these things need to be sold I can understand the slow sales. I'm hoping it'll hit 7 million by the next 2 years.
The 2nd iteration is when shit will really kick into high gear

That kinda depends on Valve. Up until now I've seen the Deck as a product aimed mostly at people that are already gaming on PC with lots of money to spend on an extra device, basically a niche product.

They've been able to reach non-PC gamers thanks to internet word-of-mouth, but if they really wanna reach those numbers (7 million units) they should really start expending more on marketing to try reach the more general public.

They should also try to stream line some things about the software. Currently some games need some tinkering in order to work, something that people not used to PC gaming might be scared of.

those numbers aren't good because... well they aren't
Amazing reasoning skills right there
