Sony appreciates "the CMA’s focus on protecting gamers" as it welcomes the announcement to further investigate the Activision acquisition

You know what I love about this is just how seriously Sony is taking this compared to some of the posters on this board who initially dismissed this as 'PS doesnt NEED CoD'. They will be fine they said. Clearly Sony themselves think this will destroy their business.
The yougov poll around COD on GP is looking a bit more accurate

After reviewing the math Sony is realizing how much market share MS will gain from the monopolistic move lol. Unfortunately Jim and company did this to themselves because the deal will go through so it's too late for them to flounder now.
It will go through but with concessions and that's exactly what Sony want. Why do Sony want this deal to breeze through? It makes sense to make it difficult as possible and get the most they can. It will also put the brakes on MS buying anymore large publishers.

Do people not look at the charts. Cod is the highest seller on PS chart every year. No surprise sony will moan about losing it. They make tons of money off cod. They easily sell 15m consoles just to cod players alone. Alot of us here may not care for cod or played it in a long time but its a huge loss from a business sense and Sony are feeling the heat. They are going to lose their top selling game.

Love how they start talking about gamers in general to only focus on PlayStation gamers afterward.
I know. I'm like where the hell has this CMA been the entire time Sony has basically bankrolled third parties into skipping the Nintendo Switch with games like Persona and Monster Hunter World, etc. There's really no telling for how long Sony has been dropping benjamins to fuck over Nintendo fans.

At the end of the day, it's a choice between ps Cod competing game pass COD. Why would Sony put themselves in that position?

Wouldn't be better to let call of duty go, then to let it advertise gamepass on a Playstation?
I dont know. I dont know what Jimbo fears worse. Losing half of his revenue or sharing 30% of it with Microsoft while watching Phil undermine games like MLB The Show and CoD by offering them for free on gamepass on playstation.

I would personally let CoD go, and buy Take2. GTA Online was the second game on the list of most played online games at 40%. It wouldve been a great bargaining chip. You take cod? We take GTA away. But they idiotically spent $3.2 billion on Bungie who is only around 17% iirc. Maybe lower. Bungie makes games for the hardcore, casuals cant do those raids. Regardless, Take2 bought Zynga which added another $12 billion to their already high $18 billion price tag. But Sony shouldve pounced when they were under $20 billion. At $40 billion, they now simply have no shot unless they spinoff zynga immediately to another buyer like Tencent or Embracer group.

They couldve also bought Ubisoft and Capcom, but they might be waiting to see if this deal goes through. They need leverage right now and they have none. Bungie alone isnt enough. You need Destiny, Assassins Creed, Far Cry, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and a lot more to negotiate for CoD. And this constant whining from Jimbo indicates that this option of acquiring publishers simply isnt available to him.

is it really that hard to just revive haze and make it a cod killer?

You can't "kill" COD, but you can easily compete on the same level as it by making a great first person shooter that people will buy if it looks good enough. The challenge is more how to handle the logistics of building an operation able to deliver them yearly or every 2 years, and how to successfully deliver the multiplayer side at a high level.

That’s why they don’t want this deal. Not because they want to “protect gamers” as if they wanted that they wouldn’t lock FF16.

The recently installed chair for the CMA appointed September 7th, 2022 was brought in SPECIFICALLY to fight against raising of prices during tough economic times. And what did Sony just do in the UK? Rose their prices.

Have they now? Post the contract so we can all have a look?
You sound a right hypocrite though as seeing as Nintendo did this practise well before Sony even entered the market.

If only Sony cared to “protect gamers” wallets by not increasing the prices of their games and console. The hypocrisy in this is really funny. Oh look bad Microsoft locking games to their system, yet Sony did it and will continue to do because it suits them. Fuck right off Sony.

And the newly appointed chair as of Sept 7th, 2022 is specifically going to look unkindly to companies who have raised their prices while having a product that literally sells out the moment it comes in, and in which the company that sells it made record profits in their games business very recently, and has a games business that is billions of dollars stronger than the buyer of Activision Blizzard. That's precisely the style of greed that will harm Sony's credibility.

Meanwhile Game Pass is quite literally about making some of the biggest games out there a lot more accessible and affordable to a larger group of people.

A user is "gamer" when Sony says so (of course only the one who plays on Playstation)

It's hilarious to see Sony make a statement "in defense of gamers" un general and then end up wanting everything or the best only for their PlayStation users while continuing to annoy Xbox users using their position of dominance.

We will see how it all ends, but it is clear that the CMA in its manifest was only serving the financial interests of Sony and in no other way. Apart from showing a clear ignorance of the reality of the market.

Dumbest comparison ever. Raising of gas/electricity prices by energy companies and he was brought in so that there is actual competition instead of price fixing. Do you think that we have price fixing in the console space especially when they are mostly loss-leaders with low supply? If you do you're delusional.

They have all done it, and all continue to do it, which is why stuff like this from Sony is so cringe.

No no, you don't understand. Of the current 3 console makers only Sony do moneyhats, timed exclusives and marketing deals. The other console manufacturers would never partake in such heinous crimes. The games that appear on those consoles are for everyone.

Maybe it's you showing ignorance because clearly your a keyboard regulator. Maybe the CMA have information you don't did you think about that?
Maybe they know MS past history in stifling and anti competitiveness?
Maybe they have researched what will happen if MS keep on making huge purchases?
I didn't see MS not stooping to the regulators when complaining about big bad Google and Apple?

They paid to keep Monster Hunter World off Switch but not Xbox? While Switch has exclusive Monster Hunters? I think you're lying.
I'm not sure what you're getting at moose, are you saying Sony doesnt monayhat games or am i missreading you?.
My point was that they all have moneyhatted games, moneyhatted dlc, got exclusivity deals etc. Ninetndo was ridiculous with it in the Snes days.

Sony would be trying to buy Activision themselves if they had Microsofts money, make no mistake.

Based on what? Sony seem pretty ok with the status quo where neither they nor MS owns ABK.

I'm sorry but its not just about the money, its about how the money is used. MS could have used that huge cash-pile on building stuff of their own. Like where are there new IP's?

It strikes me that MS are mainly investing to control, not build the industry. Is that what you want from a potential market-leader?

He was brought in for far more than gas and energy prices buddy. The point is a company that has rose their prices even when they are selling out of everything and making record profits has no leg to stand on in a detailed phase 2 where Microsoft and Activision and its lawyers can really get busy to detailing the ins and outs of the industry and how little impact Call of Duty will have on Sony's ability to compete.

Mr Kwarteng said: “Marcus will make an excellent addition to the CMA team, bolstering its work to promote competition and innovation to help grow our economy and ensure the best deals for consumers. There are many opportunities on the horizon and his appointment will help us to seize them.”

What Microsoft is doing with Game Pass is literally innovation in the market and it's quite literally ensuring the best deal for consumers. Meanwhile Sony has just increased prices on UK consumers when they were already basically market leader selling everything they can produce.

The only people delusional is anyone seriously believing this deal won't go through. The phase 2 deadline is March. If only there were a few things that were going to go so well for Sony between now and then to prove to CMA all is well. Can't imagine for the life of me what they could be.

Did you not read the post you were replying to was talking about? Maybe I misread your original comment, I'm not sure.

And yes, all 3 moneyhat shit, they've been doing it years and won't be stopping any time soon.

Protect the gamers? Absolutely crazy take from Sony. What about FFVII and FFXVI? You going to let Square Enix release them on Xbox? Didn’t think so.

More like protect the profits.
Read what you wrote because you sound stupid. Sony don't own Square Enix. Nor do they own the FF IP. So it's not upto Sony to decide anything that's your first mistake. If your going to post a clever rebuttal at least get the right information and blame the owners of the IP.
