Asobo Studio (Microsoft Flight Simulator) is reportedly prototyping a racing game for Xbox.

Yes how evil of them to think about making another racing game, wtf?.
Did I said evil? I said a waste of time resources and that didn't make sense ≠ evil

Also how is using Sony as an example 'moving goal postsl?.
Because I didn't bring Sony in the first place. You did.

I used Sony as an example because they make a shit ton of 3rd person action games.
That's is not only bad example but you are proving my point:

Let me put it in this way:
You are a racing fan, right? Whose catalog between Play Station and Xbox entices you the most?

I will assume Xbox. They are offering you a sim and arcady racing games.

Making another one will make you (a racing fan) happy. Correct?. 'You eating good'.

But if you are a 3rd Person Action Cinematic game...whose catalog is more enticing?

Play Station. Right?

Play station makes a shit tons of 3rd action games.....ok....if you a a fan or of those, you are eating good, more than good I would say. But if you like arcady racing games, PlayStation is offering jack shit.

See the point now?.

In other words:
MS doesn't need another racing game. (Especially when they are offering and arguably; the best ones in the market) even worst when the competition... Ain't
competing.

conversely, you could say that Play Station has too many 3rd Person games. And they lack at least a racing game to compete with Horizon.

hope this is clear.

Dude. It doesn't matter what kind of game it is, that's the whole point of bringing up the 3rd person action game as an example. All that matters is if its a good game. Using an example is not "moving the goalposts", it's not assuming anything about you, it's not attacking you, it's just an example.

No one will buy it.

GAME PASS Day One. Did you forget?
Both FH4 and FH5 are in the top 10 sellers on Steam right now, those games clearly sell well.

I hope they reuse the Forza engine and modify it since Asobo is clearly talented when it comes to console optimization.

I think you are replying to the wrong comment mate.

Well who sets the limit?. I mean can you imagine saying Sony is only allowed 2 3rd person action games?.

Bit of a false equivalence there as third-person action games sell heavily on the basis of story, theme, and character. Driving games are much less easy to differentiate beyond sim-style and arcade style.

Hopefully a kart racing game with all the Microsoft ips :)

Ever since I saw the fortnite Master Chief on that mini warthog (I saw a gif on twitter, if someone can find it, please post/tag me)

It made me realise they could easily do a great kart racer and make it work :)

Edit: don't matter posted an image below.

Considering how awesome FS 2020 is I'm sure they will do a great job, but with Forza MS and Forza Horizon Xbox is already king of the racing games. Not really sure they need yet another one.

When I first read this news I was initially skeptical of it's authenticity, because we all know MS already has it's racing game handled.

Then I thought for a moment and realized I've been hanging around Nintendo for too long. Like the notion that they shouldn't make F-Zero because they already have Mario Kart isn't something I should project onto Microsoft as normal lol.

Xbox Kart Racing, would be perfect.
With all the IP they now own, and will own if the Activision deal goes through there's almost no limit to the amount of characters they can put in. Anything from Master Chief to Banjo to Hobbes from Fable and the Witch King and orcs to some generic solider from Call of Duty and Crash. It could be a wild ride.

I'm thinking Banjo, Conker, Master Chief, Jago, Raz, Fulgore, Doom Guy, Vault boy, Rash, Crash, Spyro, Blinx, Joanna Dark, Horstacio (Viva Pinata) a Forza cover car! I'm sure I could go on forever XD

Why tho? this doesn't make sense at all.
Just because there are 2 first party racers doesn't immediately make a 3rd not make sense, it's not like it's some really niche genre. There are a lot of different types of racers that we don't have such as planes, boats, karts, futuristic. Even with cars there are plenty of gaps in the racing games that we have.

If it brings something different to the table and they think they can differentiate their own game (Microsoft clearly do if they greenlit it) they why not?

Xbox Studios have loads of shooters (Halo, Wolfenstein, Doom, Redfall, Gears, Perfect Dark etc.), loads of RPGs/strategy (Wasteland, Halo Wars, Gears Tactics, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Starfield, Avowed, Fable etc.) but only 2 racers. You may or may not like racing games but don't state that it doesn't make sense just because you don't want it. I personally don't like shooters and don't fully understand the differences between them, they all seem the same to me but can appreciate that a lot of people do like them.

Personally I wish Asobo would create a combat version of FS like the one MS made years ago. That was awesome.

I wonder if the intent is to do something that leverages the cloud like flight simulator. Like something that would let you drive anywhere using real map data.

A guy can dream anyway.
I would like to Asobo to do the R&D research into doing that and sure MS would as well . I only wonder how they can turn it into a game, might just need to toggle driving laws off and make it a challenge of getting between places fastest.

Who cares about any competition though? As a racing fan I’m just excited to get more 1st party racing games, assumably AAA. 2 racing IPs is definitely not enough, they only cover sim and sim-cade now and they’re years apart so there is much empty space to cover.
Personally I’d like an arcade racer, with nitros, jumps, demolition and all that cool stuff. Could take Horizon 5 Hot Wheels as a separate IP as well. An airplane racer would be cool too, that was my first thought here when it’s Asobo.

#SonyToo
PGR? After all it tried to do roads like the actual roads and the buildings were all photographed to be in the game

Interestingly Asobo used a modified Forzatech engine for Flight sim so it would come full circle if they implemented cars.

Drive Simulator using Flight Sim tech to drive anywhere in the world is the next step. Would be amazing if its possible.
I thought the same thing since its Asobo but I dont know if the tech is available or if the idea is too far-fetched to expect from any studio. But there is a whole damn planet there to build a game in if you can leverage the streaming tech so you can go from flying to landing on an airport, leave the plane and get into a car. And then build out from there. Like a global GTA:Online. But without the shooting and gangsta thing and more a game of discovery and adventure.

I'm trying to remember if there was a Microsoft driving game back in the day? There was a time when they did have a lot of sim games, but I guess they didn't have like a vector line-graphics driving game or anything like that back when MS Flight Sim was getting started.

MS did produce Midtown Madness in the longago times...

Oldest MS published racing game was CART Precision Racing (1996).

That was said to actually be a mistranslation or over-assumption in that original article. I think the weather simulation system was shared for reference and maybe used to some degree between the two, but it's not ForzaTech powering Flight Sim. (It made sense at the time, Asobo's A Plague Tale engine was amazing but it still seemed a huge stretch getting that into Flight Sim whereas Forza at least to our minds appeared a stretchable fit, but this says it's not the case.)

I was just thinking how that game needs to come back. it was fun

You can think about what the Forza games currently do not do and make a very expensive feature list.
Car combat, bikes, boost, quads, boats, planes, hydraulics, space, full destruction, takedowns etc.
Loads of choice for a very different game.

I would love a more arcady racer than even Forza if possible.

I miss those wild racers like Rumble Racing, I LOVED that game as a kid lol

I doubt they'd do that but it's wishful thinking

I hope they go with NFS3 or NFSHP2 style gameplay. Semi arcade racing across the world with closed track design, not open world. Split screen support would be nice.

64bitmodels

Reverse groomer.
Asobo would be better off making an air combat game like ace combat. Kinda like the horizon to MSFS's motorsport

Maybe something using their existing skills to produce things on a massive scale? Something closer to the crew perhaps?

I cross fingers is not what I've had in mind for years to develop on my own. Considering Asobo making flight simulators...
