PlayStation: Xbox's Call of Duty offer was "inadequate on many levels"

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
You have a better explanation?

But this has nothing to do with the conversation I was having with the other fellow. Why didn’t you read before jumping in?
here
I exaggerated a little, but I’m pretty sure I remember him saying games should not be tied to a plastic box or something like that and counter what gaming is all about. Unless I misunderstood, to me that sounds like he doesn’t like the idea of exclusives being tied to a particular platform.

just assume you have no argument dude

Gotta hope this buyout doesn't go through coz jimbo just told the world ain't no cod on ps5 in three years....if its three years from this cod then that ain't good. Like what 2025, 2026? I just can't imagine cod being gamepass xbox and PC. That's a death blow to Sony...and pretty dirty.

Phil offered 3 years *beyond* the agreement, which could be 2026, 2027, 2028 etc.

It's an incredible offer that no other platform has offered regarding a first party game before.

Phil is the CEO the industry deserves, unfortunately the 'market leader' is stuck with Jim.

Microsoft is making Sony PAY for COD clearly. The way Sony was comfortable paying for marketing rights before, I think Microsoft is modifying those arrangements and intending to have Sony pay them to keep getting Call of Duty on Playstation. Sony just hates the idea of Microsoft owning Call of Duty, being able to put it into Game Pass day one, and also the idea of paying Microsoft for continuing to bring it to their platform without marketing rights after their contracts with Activision are up.

Seems Microsoft is only willing to enter into a 3 year deal with Sony. At least in the short term. I think they want the ability to rediscuss things after that 3 years and Sony doesn't much like it lol.

Damn straight gangsta!

Again, Jim doing this means that if approve,d Phil doesn't even ahve to be sourteous and can just make COD console exclusive right away once he receives the greenlight.

I would have accepted the offer, would have given Sony sometime for a replacement, now all we will get is Haze and Mag 2.

They would still need to abide by any existing contractual agreements.

But at this point it's clear Sony are fully out to derail this acquisition by any means.

So the value of the IP is the only thing that makes exclusivity "fair" or "not fair"? That is a very weak argument.
you dont get it do you? isnt hellblade 2 exclusive to xbox? starfield? next elder scrolls? psychonauts 2 next gen version? and whatever these studios make in the future.
the controversy around cod is that cod biggest user base is on PS. Microsoft is literally paying to take away from PlayStation. is like sony buy ea and stop releasing fifa on xbox. or buys epic to take away fortnite
the difference on these franchises are massive my dude.

All over a MP FPS most of their most vocal fans don't even play.

cute for you to think is about the fans and not the billions cod bring every year

Y’all acting like you never seen Phil Spencer before

Jaws all on the floor, buying out major publishers galore

Even though they’re getting their ass whooped by Sony worse than before

Throwin them over furniture

It’s the return of the “ah wait, no way, you’re kidding? He didn’t go purchase Activision after grabbing Bethesda now, did he?”

And Jim Ryan said, nothing you idiots, Jim Ryan’s CoD dream is dead it’s locked up and exclusive (ha ha)

slim shady kiss GIF

I understand where you are coming from, but is it really fair for the consumer in general, particularly when the majority of COD players are on PS consoles, to force them to migrate to another system?
No, but that doesn’t matter to the person selling the stuff. Apple is one of the most anti consumer companies around, and people love them for some reason.

Sony exclusive = yaaaaaaa
Ms exclusive = noooooo

I’m not saying right or wrong, from a business perspective you want IP advantage. MS is buying it, Sony has developed it. Neither is superior.

I mean, Sony has been paying to keep some games off Xbox for awhile now, so what did they expect? Maybe instead of using those funds to moneyhat, they could have put it towards buying Activision Blizzard instead of Evo 🤭

That's different. It's not the same at all. Those arent annual releases. You don't have to buy the developer to lock down the game.

I think I covered it all, but most likely I missed one or two.

Jim playing a low-quality victim card here is awfully amusing to me. Had Microsoft not bought up Bethesda, Starfield could very likely be PlayStation exclusive, based on seemingly sustained rumours. Ryan didn't seem to care all that much about that one, so, what's different here? It's pretty obvious: Jim is worried that the title that built and props up their PSN user base is going away in three years, and will be used to build up Game Pass instead - a service they can't afford to loss-lead to compete with. If Sony could've afforded exclusive Call of Duty, they abso-fucking-lutely would have. Jim comes off as being pissed that Microsoft is playing a game above his pay grade, and he's staring down the barrel of inevitable declining PSN numbers that he can't do a thing about.

Just checked it and its basically the same

Nope, more detailed, and Jim is going to set the record straight, that is a major shift in tone from the original article alone, this is very serious business, someone may get hurt emotionally and maybe even physically by way of heartache that Jims son won't be able to come home again.

Or at least you would think it's Jims son based on all the extreme reactions so far damn people calm down lol.
