Thanks to the support and feedback from our PS5 beta participants, today we’re rolling out a new system software update to PS5 players globally. The update includes several highly-requested features like 1440p HDMI video output* and gamelists, as well as social features like the ability to request a Share Screen from a fellow party member, easily view new friends’ profiles, and receive a notification to help you join a friend’s game more quickly from a party chat.

Need to check if the 1440p mode works with my 2016 Sony, I believe it supports 1440p120hz natively🤞couldn't force 1080p@120hz though so I'm not hopeful.

Wait, why is folders only available under “Your Collection” and not in the “Installed” default section list of games?
Consider that the dock or taskbar of the PS5 (although Apple does let you pin folders to the dock, in iOS anyway).

Wth is a gamelist like folders?
Kinda.

I've been in the beta for about a month and you can create a folder-like object, but it doesn't appear on the PS5's Home Screen. Instead it's listed in your Game Library at the top of all the list of all the games you own.

Hopefully they develop a method to quickly jump to certain folders without having to use the D-Pad to navigate there.

That's a step in the right direction but I'm not sure what was wrong the folders on PS4. They worked perfectly.

You're not the only one who thought that, even in the beta. Still the same with the official update, I see. I don't get the point of where it is, when I have to scroll through 95 percent of the games to organise the ones installed.

Does it support 1440p120 over HDMI 2.0?

it does yes. but no VRR, which makes it for me a bit less usable.

most 120hz modes are pretty unstable after all. but it is nice for people that want to use those 40fps modes I guess, because before you had to drop to 1080p to use them on an HDMI2.0 TV, which made them pretty much useless as at that point you might as well just play in performance mode

More like Xbox pins system. A game can be in many lists (on PS4 a game could only be in 1 folder)
Yeah that was one of the few things I loved about the xbox OS. This probably doesn't save our gamelists into the cloud tho, which the xbox consoles did maybe I'm wrong.

Has anyone else here had these problems since the update:

1. Screen Glitch when launching a game:

So far it only happened with TLOU Part I (will try Dying Light 2 after the re-install of Part I has finished - the reinstall did not fix it). And it seems like that is has something to do with VRR. I had no issues while playing on the Beta Firmware. Switching to the Homescreen for 1 ms fixes the issue for some reason. At least until you relaunch the game again. Then it might appear again.

Problem 2:: 90 % of the times the PS5 now wants to search for stored data in the cloud storage... Which takes minutes...

Edit: No issues with Dying Light 2 and GTA V (except the stupid Cloud stuff). So it looks like something is messed up with Part II and VRR with the new Firmware.

Yeah it's taken them this long to get just here, so I very much doubt it.

WTF. My tv says “resolution not supported” on the 1440p test… yet it handles 1440@120 just fine, using my PC. Yes, I made sure the PC is actually sending it a 1440p signal. Fucking bullshit.

Your TV has to advertise 1440p@60 support through EDID, otherwise PS5 won't allow you to set 1440p resolution even if it works fine. PC lets you set whatever you want.

This update is honestly fucking stupid.

1) No VRR in 1440p… Really Sony? We’re closing in on this machine being 2 years old and this is the best you’ve done?
2) “Gamelists” are some weird, useless, neutered implementation of folders that makes no sense. Why could you not just copy the folders functionality on PS4? Again, this feature really took almost 2 years to develop?
