Halo Fan exploits glitch to unlock Halo Infinite split-screen co-op on original Xbox One!

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/halo-infinite-split-screen-co-op-working-xbox-one/
This past week, 343 Industries canceled Halo Infinite's split-screen co-op when talking about the launch of the game's upcoming co-op mode. Fans were furious and couldn't understand why a feature like this would be taken out, especially after promising it. Some speculated that there may have been some technical hurdles, but one player has proved it's possible to do split-screen even on the oldest Xbox One hardware on the market. Courtesy of a glitch discovered by HaloCreation, Twitter user KatsuyatheFuuk posted a video of them playing the game's co-op on the original Xbox One model. When the game goes into the open-world, it has some FPS issues, but nothing significant given it's not even really an official/finished version of split-screen co-op. Naturally, this new footage sent fans for a loop and has only led to more confusion from the community.

Whether or not enough outrage will spur 343 Industries into changing its mind remains to be seen. The team noted it was shifting its priorities to other projects within the studio, resulting in split-screen getting cut. Maybe there's a chance it could return in the next Halo game, but this move makes it feel less likely.

This raises many questions about what the heck is going on at 343i, and the decision to cancel local co-op which apparently is already partially in the game. If you can get Halo infinite with this split-screen glitch to run with only minor frame rate drops in select places, and on the original Xbox One, not the slightly improved One S or the vastly improved One X, than why the heck did they cancel the co-op? Xbox One S and especially One X, it would be high res at at 60fps, just test the co-op through the game to make sure any small issues are addressed and that's it, you have unlocked the co-op achievement for Halo Infinite.

What kind of incompetence are we dealing with here that a fan can exploit a split screen glitch on the original Xbox One Sku right after 343i says it's not possible to do at the moment, and isn't their focus making the announcement they are cancelling the feature?

343i continues to look worse and worse, maybe they are hiring the wrong people, they need to hire employees that can produce results and are actually qualified for the job.

There’s really no telling how the feature works across the entire campaign, or what remaining QA was left to be done.
they never said it was impossible to do. . Canceling this and the delays is an embarrassing look for the studio and MS especially after the promises after Halo 5 that split screen co-op would be in Infinite, but Let’s not make things up

Makes me wonder if it is being taken out for reasons other than time or manpower.
I hear the performance is really rough, and tether range is awful on Xbox one, plus a myriad off other issues.

Plus game is only 30fps on base x1 console, so I can't imagine lower unstable fps on base consoles is anything anyone wants to really experience.

I said it wasn't possible for them to do at the moment, nothing was made up, they said they were moving on and focusing on other things and they were going to have to cancel the co-op. They had 5 years several months since launch to have included co-op by now, and there's clearly some unfinished co-op code in the game. This is a poor spin and unsubtle defense of them removing a feature that should have been there, and is partially present.

5+ years to test co-op and refine it so the are sure it works across the campaign is way more than enough time.

That's got nothing to do with One X and the Series consoles, if it has to be 30fps to work on the Xbox One S and original than ok, it's weaker hardware. I highly doubt that's the reason why they cancelled co-op, that's not even remotely believable. 343i gave expectations iirc early about how the game may not play the best on Xbox One, and the tech comparisons by sites made notice of how well the game was optimized for the One X and the Series consoles. Which shouldn't have the same issues with co-op.

Probably not worth it anyway, I don't really know anyone that plays split screen in 2022 tbh.

I haven't played split screen since Dreamcast/GameCube/OG Xbox & a very brief go on gears 1 on Xbox 360, before getting my own.

Using anecdotes to downplay the issue while trying to subtly defend the decision to cancel a promised feature that they hyped up doesn't really do anything to make 343i look any better. The years of stuff like this piles up over time, this isn't really an isolated issue, it's part of a larger problem.

I'm indifferent too it, as it doesn't effect me.
Half the people angry over it, most likely would've never used the feature and just enjoy being triggered.

I do feel sorry for those that genuinely wanted to use the feature though.

But there is more important issues for halo than split screen imo, like getting content out at a steady pace etc

adamsapple

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Is the glitch able to run the co-op reliably through the entire campaign ?

If yes, fucking lol 343.

If not, then there's probably technical reasons they scrapped it at the umpteenth hour.

this is prime content for Digital Foundry. they should play through the whole campaign on Xbox One fat, then see how feasible it is to actually play that way.

if this is playable enough then this cancellation is the biggest fucking joke in the terrible history of this company

First they should see if they can find away to get it to work on a One X or Series console first, then if they can't, they should use the 2013 Xbox One and see how far they can get. Even over half-way through with decent performance on that outdated machine would be raise a big question mark given how much stronger and easier it would be for it ti run ont he X and the Series consoles.

it works on all consoles.
but the Xbox One fat will have the most issues. and if even that version is playable enough to finish the game, then it's the most damning result possible

Really now... and you know this based on what experience?

Infinite's Campaign has loads of features and design decisions that no Halo Campaign has ever had to tackle before. To pretend the challenges of focusing on split-screen co-op - that so few are ever going to touch - are the exact same for Halo Infinite as they were for past Halo games is quite a leap of faith.

No past Halo title has ever been developed for so many different platforms all at the same time before. Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, 4 and 5 were all developed for a single console platform at the time of launch, and none launched for PC simultaneously like Infinite had to.

Infinite launched on 5 consoles at the same time + PC with a radically reinvented Halo Campaign from all prior games, on a brand new game engine. A great deal of the "new" Halo would have certainly taken programmers and designers away from something like split-screen local co-op. It only makes sense for anybody that has played Halo Infinite's campaign why things might not be as easy as they were before. It is so far and away from being the same old Halo we're all use to.

Wait why are people praising the person that found the glitch like he made this materialize into the game. This already exists in the code but was disabled for "reasons".

Anyways 343i continues to be a liability for Microsoft they are basically burning all the goodwill Microsoft has been slowly clawing back. Only for them to deal with this self inflicted wound. Now with this out there they're pretty much forced to go back on their recent statement and implement split screen. 🗑️

Yes, the 8 people out of millions who planned on playing split screen campaign are outraged. Horrible decision.

343i is having a diversity meeting and trying to hire trans people to code their games, doesn't matter if they are experienced, as long as they fit the checklist for diversity! They don't want to set the expectations too high, lol.

The technical director at Coalition is transgender. So are some of the best programmers and designers at some of your favorite game studios, but keep that same ignorance.

I could be misinterpreting what he's saying, but I think he means that rather than focusing on hiring the best coders possible, 343's hiring process favors "diversity" factors over pure qualifications. Hard to say if this is true or not, but 343's technical output has been questionable to put it mildly.

Moronic comment
the issue isn't hiring trans people, the issue is hiring them BECAUSE they are trans
this is not a thing. Hiring from these communities is one thing but they still must be qualified. Nobody is getting handed a job solely because of their identity.

yes, and if it isn't, bam, good PR

I mean, then Microsoft is publicly lying they they said they want to hire more people from these communities

Wanting to hire from the communities does not equate to hiring someone solely BECAUSE they are from that community. The notion that someone more qualified is losing out on a job because someone gay/black/trans/whatever got the position is stupid because that’s logically just stating someone white/straight is inherently more qualified.

Microsoft encouraging people from said communities to apply and actively searching for good talent from the communities leads to them getting hired or partnered with. Nobody is blindly getting handed a job. That’s all I’ll say on it.

Well they only have hundreds of people working there. They delayed the game a full year and released what still felt like a beta and have had a ton of time pass with only minimal content updates.

I'm not seeing them hurting on manpower or time.

But if you group all the small isolated issues together it’s just one big issue.

Are you going to really criticize a company for literally one issue? Are you that petty???

(Am I doing this right?)

No sir. This is a poor spin from you. They didn’t have 5 years to include co-op. We’ve already established they had to reboot Development mid way, had to delay the game and we’ve already blasted them for that.

Really makes no sense for you to say they had “5 years to test co-op” as if they had a near finished product 5 years ago.

Perfectly valid to criticize them for setting milestones post launch and failing to meet these milestones, including Season 3 delay, and delays for campaign co-op and Forge.

Just look at the context.

A millionaire company is unable with a team of more than 100 people to make a video game mode, but a person with a video game glitch manages to partially make the coop mode.

amazing..

This is a misleading interpretation of things.

The glitch enables stuff 343 has already done and put in the game. stuff that they clearly feel isn’t suitable for release. The one person modder has made absolutely nothing.

And that is why 90% of the morons on here and out there took what Jim said waaaaay out of context. He was referring specifically to this exact problem and to overcome it: "We believe in generations".

He never meant: from this second going forward I pledge to all Sony gamers that every game will be made exclusively for PS5.

It's a simple generational leap. Phase in ps5. Phase out ps4. Done.

Xbox has this issue now where they're cross developing for so many platforms that it's hurting their studios and arguably gaming franchises in general.

Sony developed a last gen version of every all 3 of thier biggest franchises. (Gt7, horizon, gow) So saying that this is hurting xbox while not affecting Sony doesnt really match up.
The only real difference is the pc release and series S, but when your already reaching back to xbox one, that's not really the issue.

Not only did you misread my post, but you misread your too.

I never said they had 5 years to "test" co-op I said they had (over) 5 years to implement it and they did, that's a fact, and they announced it from near the start of the project. In this sentence specifically you say they didn't have 5 years, and then said I acted like the project was finished 5 years ago? What? Are you evening reading what you're writing? No.

Oh, so there is code of a (sorts) working split screen co-op mode? But yeah fuck us for wanting something that was promised but won't be delivered. Once again piracy and modders need to save us 🤷🏻‍♂️
