Xbox backward compatible games program ends today. No more games.

I have zero interest in backwards compatibility, but it makes sense that they would revisit this after the acquisition goes through.

A terrible shame "The Thing"(Based on the amazing John Carpenter movie) and "The Chronicles of Riddick: Attack on Butcher Bay"
OG Xbox discs won't play in my Xbox One X. My brother game me brand new ones sealed and I cracked them open, hoping I'd
be able to play them on my One X through backwards compatibility but yeah...not happening. Sucks man.

Yes, there are a lot of OG games AND 360 games that are only playable on the 360. NOT on the XB One or XSX. I still have my 360 hooked up for games like Blur.

Xbox games playable on the 360

Only the ones with green 'XBO' are playable on the Xbox One or XSX

Maybe they will put the OG Xbox emulator on X1/Series at some point. Though it would probably be a paid license or something because of nVidia.

Would be cool if the Activision deal unlocked a new set of BC games.

CXBX Reloaded has a higher chance of getting ported by someone, just like PCSX2.

CXBX Reloaded already has Direct X support. so the only hurdle currently is for someone to make a UWP version of it.

XEMU is another one, but I think that one only currently supports OpenGL but has way better compatibility to my knowledge

Good news!

Microsoft has removed online DRM checks for Xbox One discs on Series X

Maybe the same will happen for 360 and OG games in the future. That would surely make me buy a Series X

they can't do that for 360 and og Xbox games because you don't play what's on the disc, you play a slightly altered version of the games.

that was the only way the Xbox One was able to play 360 games in the first place. since it wasn't even remotely powerful enough to emulate the games so they needed to run semi-natively on the console

Thery could change that ;)

The Series X should be powerful enough to emulate 360 games.

To be more specific the game code is left untouched (except for Final Fantasy XIII trilogy where they used the PS3 textures), but the excutable file that the Xbox One uses to launch the game is new. The emulator comes packaged with the game itself, specifically fine tuned so that the game can utilise the Xbox hardware properly.
Apart from that, unlike OG Xbox and 360, the games for Xbox One and Series S|X are region free. So you can insert say the disc for Gernman or Japanese version of a 360 game and download the English version of the same game.
