Sony bought Savage Garden*?

Microsoft will buy Roxette to match them.

*Psst Sony actually already own Savage Garden. Don't tell anyone.

This doesn't make sense.......what company doesn't invest into things that may or may not payoff??
Obviously they think it will.

Hell, everyday, every individual on earth invests time, energy, money, etc into something that may not work out in the long run.
Yes you have to speculate to accumulate, well at least that's what that guy from that Indian call center told me, when he needed my bank account details and security number, in all fairness £5000 was nothing compared to the 5 million I had just inherited. ;)

Good Sony bought a developer that is already specialized in mobile versus tasking/diverting existing studios to these efforts. A smart play, just like picking up Nixxes for PC ports.
Yes, this is part of their plans for mobile gaming, basically to acquire or partner with established, experienced and successful mobile talent to publish and develop both internally developed games and 'boutique' externally developed games remaining faithful to PS Studios values:

It makes sense for them, just like they bought Nixxes for PC development, they now want something dedicated to mobile games.
It's clear they want to expand to different markets.
Core gamers can always look forward to the soon to be announced Square Enix acquisition funded with the 50€ PS5 price increase, right lol? :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :lollipop_kissing_smiling:

Yeah.

Not a diss on Savage. But I have lost all faith in JR to run PS. I feel like Layden was the black cloud that keeps on raining since.

We need another Tretton. JR is far over his head.

I like Hulst a lot, I had a small relationship with GG back in their early days and I will forever be fond of them - but I really expect more from him in his new role. Just haven’t seen it yet, either.

Sigh.

Only if they work on premium mobile games or geniune free to play games focusing on gameplay.

Majority of the f2p mobile gaming section is flooded with garbage gatcha games with who knows how many sub menus and currencies system for levelling up and what not.

btw what games have Savage game studios worked on?

Around for ~2 years, the assumption being Sony saw some game they have in development or something?

Seem like total nobodies.

It's not usually a good sign when you buy a game developer and the PR doesn't name a single game they have made.

Got a first round funding last year Jan, the game was supposed to be already out in select markets so would assume that they have something playable to show off.

This would be their first game as a studio, obviously some of the people have worked at the likes of Rovio and Super cell

So that's why they bumped up the price of PS5. Got to pay for them somehow without digging into that $3-4 billion profit Sony's gaming division makes per year.

For all the armchair accountants out there who analyzed MS buying Bethesda and Activision doing their wacky sales math and years to break even analysis, dont forget to do it on Savage Studios.

Their current games and revenue are both zero.

sonys fanbase is experiencing growing pains with the change of the landscape and business side of gaming. It’s only going to get worse if you want more single player games and JRPGS lol

Like i said before, younger people are the ones who are spending the money these days and they don’t care about big rpgs, they want more GAAS. The older fans who are constantly begging for ps2 era games are the ones least likely to spend money on them so they are the lesser priority

Because mobile games suck ass. Sony will make f2p mobile microtransaction crap from this no name studio and hopefully not add more of that shit into their regular games.

Like even MS has been garbage on mobile. Their freecell solitaire game has a stupid subscription service. They finally killed that shitty Forza Street game.

At the end of the day it’s really a move that doesn’t really effect us either way, its not their main studios working on mobile trash games. Best case scenario they make a bunch of money and funnel it into their other games

The mobile market is low investment extremely high return. A studio of 25 people can make a billion dollar mobile game in a year

Us console players are like, wtf?
However mobile gaming is where the big money is. Wonder why Tencent has so much money to throw around?
Wonder why every second ad on YouTube is some stink average new mobile game? Wonder why MS is happy to have those mobile studios with Zenimax and ABK?

Sony is just expanding into mobile gaming, which was a given really.

MS isn’t just happy to have them, thats probably the primary reason they bought them. Take Two is worth 17B dollars and bought Zynga, a mobile developer for 12.7B. Thats over a 3rd of their total market value.

Theres a certain point, where it just doesnt make sense for a major gaming company to not have a mobile development arm. People think Jim Ryan is whoring out SIE but the reality is that he’s just making the most obvious moves that any one else in his position would be making.

They are making a AAA game for 120m dollars while a mobile game would cost a fraction of that and if successful make double the amount in perpetuity every year

Poor Sony, they have to buy piece meal what MS bought as a bonus. Either way, if it makes them a lot of money, it's a good thing.

Yep.
Infact this was one of the drivers of Gamepass on Xbox.
Cloud gaming gives people the ability to play on their phones without all the microtransactions that plague the mobile space.
It allows people to play their console AAA games on the go.
What would you rather play, Call of Duty Mobile, or Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on your phone?
