LAUSANNE, Switzerland & NEWARK, Calif. – August 2nd, 2022 – Today, Logitech G
and Tencent Games announced a partnership to bring a cloud gaming handheld to market later this year that will combine Logitech G’s expertise in hardware with Tencent Games’ expertise in software services. The new device will support multiple cloud gaming services, and both companies are working with the Xbox Cloud Gaming and NVIDIA GeForce NOW teams, so gamers can play AAA games when they are away from their console or PC.

Logitech G and Tencent Games share a mutual vision of the future of gaming and are committed to ensuring the quality of experience comes together seamlessly to deliver on the exciting promise of gaming from the cloud. Cloud gaming utilizes data center servers to stream video games to consumers. There’s no need to download or install PC or console games. Instead, games are rendered and played on remote servers, and users interact with them locally on their devices.

“Logitech G’s leadership in PC and console gaming gear make them an ideal partner to help us realize the vision of bringing a better gaming experience to gamers around the globe,” said Daniel Wu, general manager of Tencent Games Smart Solution Innovation Lab. “Today marks the start of a new opportunity for our companies to further push the frontiers of gaming devices.”

“As one of the leading global platforms for game development, publishing and operations, Tencent Games has been at the forefront of innovation and it’s why we partnered with them,” said Ujesh Desai, general manager of Logitech G. “As someone that grew up playing video games, the idea of being able to stream and play AAA games almost anywhere is super exciting, and we can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”

So a dedicated game streaming handheld. Interesting. This is key:

My first question was going to be, “how do I hack this thing to allow Xbox Cloud,” but that will be supported natively. I’m in on this if they can keep the price down below the $150 range…$100 would be better!

sounds like something any $100 phone and a bt controller can do.
No-one wants to do that, why spend $50 - $100 on a controller adaptor that results in a half assed experience when you can just have a hopefully $100 - $200 dedicated handheld.

What? I literally bought a clip for my Xbox controller for $10 and you can buy a Bluetooth controller for $20. I have a steam deck now but I was streaming Nvidia GeForce and gamepass easily. Who wants a dedicated *streaming* handheld when we already have the tools to do exactly that.

Logitech have gone to shit.

Where's the USB C G915? Where's the successor to the G13? Where's a proper multi-button mouse?

Yeah, but that clip/controller setup is truly clumsy. Streams great, but for someone gaming on the go carrying around a clip and controller doesn't sound appealing at all. Now this Logitech thing would to be fairly small and slim to be any better, but I could see some appeal it for some if it cheap enough.

This is what I don't understand, "gaming on the go" and streaming is a nightmare. When I stream games I use my wifi. So would be on the go but not really because you need a strong connection. Even when using 5g it gets messy, and if I'm going to use 5g it's better to use the phone than hotspot. Good luck to them but overall I don't see the appeal for a mass market.

If it's an ARM device then it needs dedicated game development like the Switch has.
If it doesn't have dedicated game development, then it's dead on arrival as a gaming device because it'll only run Google Play's f2p trash.

People looking to play streamed games can simply use their old phones with a bluetooth gamepad.

I remember when Logitech was the guy you went to when you wanted high quality gaming peripherals that weren't Mad Catz inspired "Gamerz" trash.

What happened to you guys?

And yea this thing is doomed. Even as an emulator focused device there are much better alternatives.

Looks ugly and I already have too many handheld devices already but if it’s cheap there could be a niche for it.

I have a number of handhelds but I do want a streaming focused handheld with a good oled screen. I can/do use my phone and a kishi but it comes with its own comprises.

I do think it has to be 250/200 gbp max.

What makes you think this will feel any less half-assed? My only issues right now when trying to stream games to my phone is network related. Controller and launching the apps works fine.

It looks cheaply made so it should be cheap.

I don't know what you all are on about, it looks great to me. I'm into the portable emulation device scene and am currently using an Retroid Pocket 2+, which is great, but can't play anything above PS1/N64 gen. I've got a preorder in for an Odin Lite and was thinking about getting one of the Loki devices (probably the i3 version), but if the Logitech has a Snapdragon G3X I might have to cancel the Odin Lite. Can't really tell what the build quality will be like from the pics but it doesn't look any worse than most of the Chinese handhelds that are already available. Looks fairly small and the grips look good.

I wasn't expecting Logitech to make something comparable to one of those Chinese handhelds. Guess it should be expected since they have to make money on the hardware. But yeah, really can't say for certain until I get my hands on it.
