Microsoft defends Activision buyout by claiming that Activision doesn't make any "must have" games.

Where have they ever said Valve is a rival?, they have been bussom buddies for years. And they put their games on Steam because 'thats where PC gamers want their games' as quoted by Phil.

As for the topic, it doesnt sound good for COD on other systems is this deal goes through.

In the OP?

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
there is nothing unique about the video games developed and published by Activision Blizzard that is a ‘must have’ for rival PC and console video game distributors that could give rise to a foreclosure concern.

I shouldn't really be surprised people didn't read the full quote.

They're talking in reference to it being enough to raise foreclosure concerns.

If CoD doesn't come on Sony consoles anymore, do you guys really think it'll lead to Sony foreclosing the PS division ? Probably not.

It's funny that Microsoft and Sony are kinda saying the opposite things.

Nintendo can be used as a clear example of that point.

They don't have CoD on thier system and are doing well, therefore CoD is not a must have for your business to survive.
Nintendo is also a clear counterexample. Virtually all of their bestselling games are exclusives developed and/or published by Nintendo themselves. These games are clearly essential to the success of the console and the company as a whole. And yet, following your logic, they could not be considered must-have titles, since Sony and Microsoft are doing well without them.

I agree. I wish they were wrong, but they aren't. Unless Sekiro 2 is being published soon, I can't think of any must-haves with the Activision name on the box.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sony this desperate and back against the walls like they are now. It’s interesting they admitted they can never compete without CoD. However, Nintendo is proof that it is possible. Sony needs to be innovated and create better games.

They said games. They have A game worth buying occasionally, to be a good cod.

Other than that, they don't. The beth deal was worse for single platform holders. Not this.

If Nintendo can create their own little ecosystem with Splatoon (I say little but the last game sold 13+ million copies) Sony should be competent enough to create some MP action, although that's their weakness.

Sony: the world is ending if Microsoft buys Activision because nobody else is as good as them
Microsoft: Activision is complete trash with nothing worth owning, who would even want to buy them? (please let us buy them)

They never come close to even hinting at that though. They are making no effort to lower the profile of Activision or CoD in that statement. They don't say players are uninterested or reference the games themselves. They are saying that no console maker or distributor is closing its doors due to losing access to CoD, for those entities it isn't a "must have". I don't think there is such a thing as a must have in that context, IMO.

If they start releasing statements showing how CoD slumped a bit in sales or something like that, then you can draw some good comedy from that. This is super basic. I didn't read the entire response from them, just what is quoted in the OP, maybe there is some funny stuff in there that I just haven't seen.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
I'll just quote myself from the other thread.

It's the difference between "wants" and "needs."

No one expects a switch to play cod.

People expect playstation to do.

That's a huge difference.

The sentence means that losing COD won't cause Steam or Playstation to go out of business.

And literally means nothing else.
Aren't xbox releases still put on steam? Literally the only people losing anything will eventually be sony lol

Sony: No one can make something like COD, the deal is concerning!

Microsoft: This publisher has never made anything unique or must have and we want to spend 70 billions on it for...reasons

They are so humble it's adorable.

Microsoft made Halo, which is orders of magnitude better than any fps developed by sony.
Also Microsoft owns Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake among many others.
“lmao”
Microsoft didn't even make Halo. Dude...they acquired the IP AFTER it was even presented to the public at an Apple conference of all places. What are you even talking about, lmao

They didn't create that IP. Just like the other ones you just mentioned...so yeah... lmao.

Yeah true and Activision games aren’t in steam right now I don’t think.

So just Sony lol

Either way these “let’s pretend someone said something they didn’t” threads suck worse than Xbox’s 1st party output and that’s pretty bad.

No, you can thank Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping for this lovely furry chick. I hear he has a thing for cats as well. I'll have to ask CatLady CatLady about these fetishes of his....:messenger_beaming:

Oh yeah that Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping is a freak of nature. He apparently gave up his role as Boi's guardian angel and put on a catsuit. If he thinks that disguise will convince to go along with his kinks; all I can say I "not happening, weirdo". :pie_gsquint:

Just when you thought sony's claim is a bitter sore loser,,,, MS comes up with something even worse of a response. What a baffling thing to say the least.

COD is not special... then why are you buying it tardface ?

PS. I know this is just Legal stuff. but still wtf ? come up with a better response lol.

That's...sad to hear lol, like they're mocking the conpany they bought, it reflects on Microsoft rather than Activision that statement, almost like a peek into their philosophy regarding gaming

So many ppl only read the title or somehow miss the entire quote.

I mean.... are they wrong? Sekiro's the last worthwhile game they published... in 2019
Should have scooped up one of the indie studios who made Xbox exclusives in the mid 2010s for them

Not really. Nintendo thrives because they exist in a different market segment. Buying up Bethesda and Activision was always an anti-competitive move. Microsoft is simply trying to position the acquisition to get the uninitiated to join the green rats and follow the flute.
