According to a recent survey from Statista, Sony’s subscription service PS Plus is the most popular among US viewers. The survey, conducted in May, asked 1099 US video game subscribers whether they have spent money on various gaming subscription services during the past year.

41% of those surveyed said they had paid for PS Plus/PS Now. The second spot is occupied by Amazon Prime Gaming/Amazon Luna. 39% of gamers said they had used Amazon services during the past year. Luna is a cloud-based gaming service provided by Amazon in the United States. It was launched to the general public in 2021.

Microsoft is in the third spot for its collection of services such as Xbox/PC Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold. 37% of gamers surveyed said they had used one or more of these services during the past year. In the fourth spot, Google Play Pass was also used by 37% of the survey base during the past year.

Netflix Games completes the top five with a 33% reach among video game subscribers. Nintendo Switch Online is the least used service among services offered by three major console companies. The Nintendo service has a reach of only 32%.

Dang, Nvidia and Google dropped the ball big time. Outside of Play Pass, not sure what that is.

I think the most surprising thing here is Luna being number 2. I didn't think that was making in-roads but it seems it's bringing in more subscribers than previously thought. Nintendo is 6th and way below the other two core gaming manufactures to no ones surprise.

I think it's safe to say that Apple Arcade was a failure, so that guy who made the "if Apple enters is Nintendo doomed" thread must be rethinking his position right now, Apple Arcade isn't getting the subscribers people were expecting, and Apple poured a lot of money into the program.

In comparison, Netflix shot up really quickly. People thought that was DOA but it turns out they managed to get peoples attention after all and have gained quite a following.

I remember seeing something similar to this last year. Would be interesting to find it to see if there's any percentage changes.

I can't find it.

Before the usual suspects get their panties twisted....

It must be noted that Sony’s subscription services underwent significant restructuring in May. Before June, Sony provided two subscription services: PS Plus and PS Now. During the restructuring in June, Sony decided to merge two services and introduced the new PS Plus with three different tiers. The impact of this change is not visible in the survey. However, it is very likely to have provided a boost to PS Plus’ reach among US gamers

I am a bit suspicious of how this survey was conducted since we see two traditional video streaming services high on the list. The way the questions are asked would have a significant impact on those numbers.

I cry about SonyGaf from my chair in Redmond, WA
That's pretty good numbers for Microsoft when you take into account how many play stations out there versus xboxes.

I know game pass is also on pc, but as someone having both platforms the pc library is not really fantastic compared to the console counterpart

WTF is Amazon Luna?
Edit: Netflix Games, too? :messenger_weary:
Is that ps+ extra or just essential? Because obviously there are way more ps4/5 in homes than xbox one/series

It's also the US.

It's PS+ and PSNow

extremely misleading Thread title and listing...

this is what it is actually like:
1: All PlayStation related subscriptions
2: All Amazon related subscriptions
3: All Xbox related subscriptions

labeling these as Luna and GamePass is misleading
Amazon Luna is not what makes it to be 2nd place, it's Prime

Most of these are using subs from before to count its legitimacy. No one fucking even touches Luna.

Poll of 1,099 people is the “U.S”.
With a sample size like that what could go wrong?

It's like using Family Feud polls as statistical evidence. 😅

They also don't say how they contacted or got a hold of the people they polled that I can see.

I really wish I could find the one from a couple years back, I'm pretty sure it's near identical.

Yep more people have PS+ and Amazon Prime than gamepass subs but there are differences in the services structure. It would depend entirely on how it was asked.

Tell me you haven't done statistics without telling me you haven't done statistics.

I'd be interested to know what sample size you think is good? If you did any statistics 1099 is actually a good sample size for even 3% margin of error for the US population.

I guess it would depend on the area code.

1099 ppl in New York aren't going to give the same answer as 1099 in LA or Phoenix or Texas.

Are these phone surveys? Internet surveys? How are they contacting these ppl?
Too many unknowns.

What people need to realise is that this isn't engagement. The question asks if they have used it at all. I suspect a lot of people download free games with their amazon prime subs but barely use it. I know I do all the time so I would have answered yes to Prime/Luna.

If you are doing it for the US population the 1099 people would be surveyed randomly from all across the US. The 1099 sample size is not an issue though.

Sure, that would be great for peer review but saying you need to look at their methodology to see if Statista know what random sampling is is like asking to look at Leonhard Euler's work to see if he knows 2+2=4.
I don't think I'm looking to you to advice on this.

Sorry.

News flash! That's how polls are conducted. Please try to read about this a bit, before jumping into conclusions and showing that you have zero knowledge on the subject, by saying 1099 people is not enough
Well we should only let 1099 ppl vote in the next election then.

Since that's the majority now.

Sound good?

Let's not do any methodology for thos 1099 too? That'll be fun.

it is survey from May and only on 1099 people. There were lots of ps4 users than Xbox one users, next gen still is way behind these consoles, and ps plus is required to play online on playstation and it May it still was old version of it.

Let me try:

If you generally include everything under the "Microsoft" umbrella, including Microsoft Windows and Office, Xbox is basically 100x bigger than the entire history of Playstation services combined.
