Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak |OT| MASSIVE EXPANSION ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Finally got to play for a bit after a week. Fun new quests. Just unlocked the first Seregios hunt, it looks like it will be fun but I don't have time tonight...

Seregios armor looks too cool and the fight was fun (though there was nothing unexpected to deal with in terms of moves/combos/range from this either - or I'm simply better than I think, ha, no), maybe I'll farm it for the set. I'm not playing mkb, it's just the screenshot key mapped switching icons.

Huh, so I didn't realize that PC Rise/Sunbreak was region locked for matchmaking. Here's a mod that disables the region lock, so you can play alongside OP JP hunters again (Switch does not have this region lock, only PC).

I can never find a mult-hunt on pc. Have you used this Pejo Pejo ? Does it work for you?
Just read about it a few minutes ago, going to apply it later tonight and give it a shot. I've been trying to finish farming event quest layered sets from HR, and it's been tough finding groups outside of weekends. I'm trying to not get too far ahead of my friend that bought Rise/Sunbreak on PC and is going through the story. The reviews/comments are all positive in the nexus forums/MH subreddit/steam community though, so I'm expecting it's good. Best part is that nobody else needs the mod to join you, once you have it installed.

I'm seriously having a hard time believing there's no Deviljho. Everyone wants to ride a Deviljho, so.... why

Anjanath is just way too similar to it, imo. But of the two, sure, I'd prefer Deviljho too, I loved it in Tri even if it's overused since and Rise has a lot of awesome stuff from that game already, which is great. But I'm ok with having one or the other. Maybe Jho will be DLC eventually. It would also be ok if they merged and you had Jhos that in rage mode/breath attacks grew fins or whatever, with the lore saying they didn't know it's the same species until such a specimen was encountered, adults with their brute strength didn't need any intimidation mechanism until bigger things were the new norm..!

I'm simultaneously having alot of fun and burning out. Basically just doing random hunts from the board one after another on the way to MR 100. I really want that MR 100 Switch Axe cause I'm too lazy to make elemental sets.

Neat. Let us know how it turns out. I personally just do random hunts and I've never had problems getting a group but this might be useful for something specific.

I think I'm officially burned out. I haven't made much progress at all over the past week because I'm only doing like 1 hunt every other day now as opposed to playing for several hours every day like I was. I think I'm gonna give it a break when Xenoblade 3 releases and then come back to it at a later date.

MR38, all main monsters slain and a full set for all my main weapons - I think I’m good until the next content patch. Just in time for Xenoblade Chronicles next week.

Really liked the expansion overall, just don’t like what they did with the Switch Axe. Having one spammable move which charges both gauges like crazy isn’t a good idea imo.

I beat the final boss last night, glad it’s not a hugely annoying fight. Now the real grind begins, need the set and 3 weapons as usual. I’m not having good luck with Abyssal Dragonsphire drops tho… 6 in a row without a single carve or drop in the rewards screen 🙁

Anyone having connection issues for Switch? Been getting a lot of connection errors today. Reset my modem and router and problem still persists.

The invisible gimmick is neat, but nothing I'm really salivating for in what they showed of the fight. I have fought so many Nargas by this point, I don't feel that it's going to be significantly different.

DId they show the new armor yet?

Espinas wrecked, gore is next, but I do need new armor, I dunno which to go for, Seregios looked too cool and I made two bits of it to wear but it has - to most resistances :d

I may or may not have been dipping my toes in MR quests while I'm waiting for my friend to catch up. I really approve of the balance they've achieved so far. Not a lot of one-shots, and the ones that exist so far are well telegraphed to teach you better habits than just mashing attack and wirebug like you could do nearly all the way through HR until Apex/Valstrax/endgame Magna. I can't wait to fight some of the new monsters though, I'm only at MR3 and it's mostly just updated base game monsters. The new Bishaten variant was a lot of fun. His base form was my favorite new monster from base Rise.

So I wanted to mention I finally got around to installing "Better Matchmaking" on PC. It's pretty nice, though I still have trouble finding Rampage event quests (most likely because everyone hates rampage). HR event quests and anything in MR is near instant though, and no more timeouts for searching, so you can just leave it on until you hear the SFX. Pretty nice and super easy install.

I also wanted to mention, I absolutely love the Kittenator. I permanently run the gather type Palico as my companion, and every time I see that pop up from the lottery box I'm all:

Currently beat the final boss, I might have to put the game down for now because Xenoblade 3 is coming out but once I’m done with that game I will continue the end game stuff.

By the way, for anyone in current MR endgame - is there a faster way to get Outfit vouchers in MR than just doing HR rampages (10~ or so a run)?

*edit*

It's incredible what modders are able to do in this game:

Hunted a big master rank bazel. The armor set looks too cool, though its skills and resistances aren't great for me either so I'll probably farm it later for layered.

If you have all the palico types, once you unlock all of the secret supports moves for each, you can swap them around. I used to run double gathering cats but now that I'm done farming and can only bring 1 buddy to multiplayer I take a healer cat that's running the Felyne Power Up support move. It basically resets all the the other cooldowns so mine is able to throw out plenty of heals and also has a pretty decent uptime on Power Drum.

More monsters defeated. Rajang MR armor looks sweet, as do others. Still same ol gear, not enough play time to farm & craft anything :(

Even more stuff defeated with same old gear. Also I only just got the HR Valstrax unlocked, what insane grinding did folks do to reach HR 100 before Sunbreak?!

So I told myself I wasn't going to use bowguns so much for Sunbreak but level cluster are just so addicting. Gunlance is fun and all but nothing beats shooting exploding bullets half a zone away. I keep saying just one more hunt but the moment I restock my items after a hunt and turning in optional quests I end up joining another hunt. My HBG count just shot up lol. There's something that just flips a switch in my brain whenever I see Spare Shot proc over and over dealing 500+ damage whenever I pull the trigger.

Honestly, the MR grind felt longer especially with no event quests. Getting to MR100 was a slog especially since you're likely farming afflicted monsters which have a ton of health.

Rise is at 10.3 million as of an update from Capcom.

While I still don't like Rise/Sunbreak as much as World/IB, it's a fantastic game all the same. I hope wall running and switch skills stay for the next installment, but I think I've had enough Wirebugs and monster riding. MH6/World2 is gonna be absolutely massive.

Man, I have lot of catching up to do, I currently I put Sunbreak down for XC3 but once I'm done with that game, I will resume my progression.

Kinda lost steam after killing the arch demon, though I've fought a couple afflicted monsters and that's a neat way to make normally easy monsters actually give you some trouble. Although they can feel a little cheap it's probably jut cos I'm not used to them yet. I suppose they're a bit like Apex monsters but many more monsters get this instead of just a few as in base Rise? I feel like it would be better if they had integrated these in the progression to the arch demon rather than as pure end/post game? That came a bit fast considering I hadn't even crafted a new armor in ages but still managed with few issues. Unless there's more meat to it like after the first Rise credits. I was a bit surprised to find you can already craft stuff with rewards from those quests, I thought title update 1 would add related stuff in but I guess it will add much more. Still I wanna craft the new weapons.

Lucent armor design will probably be the same from 3U. I hope they make Cloudy Moonshard drop rate annoying like in 3U for nostalgia purposes 🤣

I really don't like what they did with Rise's MP. World did it right by listing a bunch of quests that are currently active, and that was so much better for variety. You would think that joining random quests would give more variety but it's the same few shitmons over and over.

I feel you.

Got to MR51 and decided to take a breaker.

Once the new patch drops, which should be next week, I'll hit the pipe again.

Yeah I’m with you, been like this from the start. And only 4 player lobbies so it’s not like you can jump in and quest with different players depending on who posts what. So if you were waiting for people to gear up and want to do a multiplayer quest, you need to leave.

No investigations really hurt, because you just fight the same monsters over and over in the same layouts. Afflicted fights suck too, boring damage sponges with a nuke. Ok.

With that said, the gameplay is great and the new switch skills are tons of fun. MR versions of most monsters are a lot more engaging than HR. I really like the expansion, even if I prefer World and a slower paced fight.

Lastly, simping hard for Fiorayne. Best and most likable sidekick character by far. And best of all, she uses all the best weapons - including goat SNS.

Let the shitflinging commence

I have probably hundreds of hours in Rise across both PC/Switch, and I can say without a doubt that World/IB is the better game/package. I look at Rise kinda like MH:Lite or MH: Arcade Mode. It cut out all of the worldbuilding and atmosphere enhancing pieces in favor of giving you a straight line between start game - kill monsters.

MH6 is going to be the real follow-up to World, and that's totally cool. Still having a great time playing Rise. I hope 6 goes back to actually "hunting" though, and adds a lot of that missing stuff back in.

Some of the detail comparisons are legit and known since Rise, others are just silly. Finding that one part in a Sunbreak map you can clip through and comparing it to that one part in World where you can climb on top (and iirc even drop it on monsters below)? I'm sure there's bits and pieces you can clip through in World as well, even with the lesser freedom of movement that probably wouldn't even allow you to get up in that specific part where you can clip through in Sunbreak. It's just a small oversight right there (that I also noticed when playing since of course I did try to get to that part of the map since it's so easy to try that stuff in Rise), when usually you can climb up pretty much anywhere in the game. Similar for showing you can't drop to the underground part of the map in the sandy plains from destroying the rock and getting the pitfall trap effect instead, or the waterfall creation in World, like, do they have to use the same exact same gimmick every time? And then showing that monsters affect you when they strike the vertical part of a platform or whatever you're standing on, isn't that an added detail rather than something worse in Sunbreak? Maybe it makes less sense when it's a really huge cliff, but still, it's an addition. If you aren't standing on the very edge then you don't automatically fall off every time as shown repeatedly but can just lose your footing and have your actions interrupted by the monster hitting the wall. It's neat to me, like you don't get completely safe by just climbing up a 2m cliff and the monsters are STRONG. And lol @ trying to show clipping through the bridge is better in World because the tail falls off below the bridge, but in Rise it flies and drops on top of it, like, the initial clipping through is the wrong bit in both games, neither is better, but it's just how it is when they have to have all these different mechanics that don't necessarily make sense everywhere given the scope. The fish not getting back to the water from such a huge dinstance (though it still almost managed) but instead eventually dying out of the water seems like just a different way to tackle it being pushed along. The jungle fast forward is so fast you can't even tell it rains at night. Of course the video doesn't show how you can now traverse the maps with far less rigid and predesigned paths by just swinging/climbing everywhere like Spider-Man, if they had that in World it'd probably have a few things here and there toned down and adjusted to match, to account for that kind of sky high view with the whole map sprawling below you and pretty much everything visible from one end to the other at any time, not just specific vantage points.

And let's not forget that for all the detail fluff MH is an arcade gamey experience from start to finish, not a hunting simulator that makes you feel like you're living in that world or anything, even with the seamless maps it's not some sandbox survival game like The Forest, even with many elements that directly oppose the gamey aspects in terms of grinding for materials and crafting and all that to pad the game's length. It's all relatively bite sized super focused boss hunting quests with a break here and there for foraging. They've just been tinkering with the balance of these elements in every game and in Rise they removed some of it and it feels more like older games in spirit (including the small monsters disappearing in bushes and such instead of just staying in the map forever for you to kill at any time with pointless constant moving away, just like the big monsters can disappear into paths you can't get to yourself in both games to come out elsewhere in the map) and in World some of these elements could also be annoying in their own right (ie the design of some maps not being very fun for just getting to the game's core point, beating the shit out of the boss monster). Although I'd want to see some of the older elements return, like cold/hot drinks & food and the need for paintballs or similar to track a monster rather than the automatic spotting in Rise (but I didn't enjoy how it was in World either with the whole follow the green fly path deal, I think it was just fine in older games where you just roamed the map in the areas they were likely to be then paintballed them after spotting them so that you could know where they flee to while fighting them, do it like that in Rise 2 with the owl only spotting it after you manually spot it once and I'll be ok with it).

There are more things Rise does different to other games that are just a different choice. I prefer how older games had the monster cut scene when you found them in the map rather than as an intro. But I'm ok with having it different for one game. Although Rise's Japanese theatrics beat Sunbreak.

I’m almost MR70
The anomaly quests are a little bloated HP wise but it’s fine overall. I’ve almost fully transitioned back to LN these days, still playing LS and GS but not as much as base Rise. Skyward thrust with LN is really fun, never gets old knocking monsters out if the sky with it. Skyward also helps with the qurio spots on monsters when it’s in their back or other hard to reach places. Then again, I have the option to just counter their qurio burst and it’s a free opening so ya lol

Other then that, I started messing with dereliction sets, swapping scrolls to get your life back is pretty cool, didn’t even realize this was a thing until I read the actual skill description. Makes the skill way less of a detriment.

A Lancer I see? Do my eyes not deceive me?

Let me fix the census... 23 24 and that officially means there's dozens of us! Dozens!

JK, I mained lance in world/iceborne (maining sns in rise/sunbreak) and there's so few playing the lance which is a shame because it's so fun. Everyone's maining the weeb cannon in rise =/

Ya in world I used to Speedrun with Lance, played it almost exclusively for 1500 hours 😅

But in base Rise I did not like the changes to lance and I hated spiral thrust being the optimal way to play. Glad they buffed many of LNs motion values, made anchor rage better, and gave us new options in the form of Skyward thrust. LN feels great again.

And yes… there’s dozens of us!

Also, if I’m being honest, the later Anomaly quests with GS have been… difficult. The monsters are so fast I keep wiffing charged strikes and have had some issues iframing some moves. LN takes care of those problems nicely lol have no fear of anything with my trusty shield at my side 🤓

I have this thing that in each game I play I pick a new weapon that I main. So far I've mained the weeb cannon, the lance and in rise sword and shield.

I don't know I might make a lance set and rekindle my lost love for the old poke stick, I really enjoyed it in world/iceborne, specially if as you say traditional lance gameplay has been restored.

We should team up sometimes and hunt monsters!

My schedule is kind of all over the place at the moment so I don’t have any regular play times. My work involves wildfires so I’m a bit a the mercy of the weather. But when (if) I get a good chunk of time to play I’ll post in this thread.

Got to try the update for a bit. New monsters are pretty good. Seething Bazel wiped the randos I was with first try which was pretty funny but smooth sailing otherwise. The anomaly investigations are kinda nice in that there's a rotating pool of investigation targets and I think it's different for everyone so I'm getting a pretty decent variety of monsters when I join a random anomaly investigation. Haven't really tried qurious crafting but looks RNG as hell. I did try the weapon augmentations but unfortunately I don't have the mats to actually use the augment I want, the rampage slot upgrade. Probably need to raise my Research level alot before that mat shows up, currently 51 out of a possible 120 level but it did start me off at level 31.
