Stray continues to set new records on Steam after its launch as it is now officially the highest-rated game on the platform in 2022 so far, even above God of War and Elden Ring.

Currently, Stray has an average score of 8.61 with 97.7% of reviews recommending it as a worthy experience on Steam. Regarding the fact that only those who have played the game for over one hour can submit a review, this could be a great achievement for the developers at BlueTwelve Studio to have most of their community happy and satisfied.

Thanks to this huge reception, God of War was fall down to 2nd place with an average score of 8.59 and 97% of positive reviews. However, you should keep in mind that God of War has over 10,000 more reviews submitted than Stray. So, we should probably wait a few months more until both games become closer to each other in the number of reviews, to see how to the competition goes on between two stellar PlayStation console exclusives.

There are a lot of cat lovers in the world it seems. I didnt like the game much to be honest. Too linear and basic. In fact there are loads of those types of games on PC from Indie and AA devs that dont get a look in. They dont star a cat as the main character though lol.
I even caved in and bought the game after pressure from Gaf. Thankfully i managed to find a very cheap key for it.

What an overall shit tier list of games.
Unlike console gamers, PC gamers dont look down on Indies and AA games. If a game is good and fun them its good and fun.
That list is actually amazing to see. Do a similar list on console and it will be all COD and Fifa.

Plus the list is to do with user ratings, its nothing to do with sales, or player numbers.

What is really sad is that gow was the highest rated game on steam. Some people have no taste lol. ( Not saying it's a bad game but to me it's an 8 at best if I am being nice ).

Also, wish Gow 3 was released on PC. That game destroys GOW in every department aside from the outdated graphics ( yet the art style in 3 is miles better than GOW)

And now a cat game is highest rated game ? Okay lol I am out.

Agree 100% about GOW3, it was in my top 10 best games of the 360/ps3 gen, maybe even top 5.
I also agree with your 8/10 for GOW reboot. Its a good solid game but nothing more, god knows how it gets the praise it does (well i'm sure we can guess why lol).

Plus the list is only for 2022, and a lot of PS gamers also game on PC so he he. I mean Powerwash Simulator is no.3, sometimes you have to take this Steam stuff with a grain of salt, i mean look at Garfield Kart (Steam/PC users will probably get what i mean lol).

Well no but you read this forum and a lot of them have no appreciation or respect for Indies and AA games. Not all of them obviously, but a lot dont. You will be hard pressed to find a PC only gamer that thinks the same.

Vocal minority =/= "a lot". Generalizations are dumb. Any given platform has the same percentage of idiots just like you'd fine in any grouping of skin tubes. Don't converse with idiots.

Now back to the list. Spent some time with PowerWash Simulator and while I can understand the appeal, the simulation is poor as there are no fluid dynamic. If you were really going to power wash any object, you'd start from the top and work your way down. You'd also never clean a ground surface before cleaning the object(s) on that surface. Maybe the "Simulator" in this instance is more akin to Goat Simulator but as it sits, it's more like having a resizable magic eraser.

it's this overwhelming obsession with AAA and sony that kills their respect for Indies. i don't doubt SlimySnake SlimySnake plays quite a lot of fun games but it's kind of hard to tell when almost all of his posts these days are complaining about how games aren't "next-gen" enough (which i can understand, but still...)

Its got very good user reviews ('very positive' i think last time i checked), but it had technical problems for some users, especially lower end users, and technical problems + Steam = outrage.
It's also got almost 400k reviews while nearly everything on that list doesn't get past 50k (most are way lower but gow blows it out).

What does #53 in top 250 tag mean? is there a proper top rated 250 list with different weighting on the review count?

All that list tells me is that Steam user ratings mean absolutely nothing. Half that list is complete nonsense games.
All that list tells me is that PC gamers don’t give a shit about AAA standardised culture and just want to have a good time. God of war is the exception that confirms the rule.

Good on Stray. Game is adorable, elegant and we need more of that.

Here is the full list. The weighting seems questionable at the lower review counts. Comparing that to steam top concurrent game counts makes for pretty amusing assumptions.

Eh. I have spent hundreds of hours playing indie games like FTL and Hades. I just dont think the current crop of indie games are good or even worth playing. I am sorry but Im not playing a cat simulator. Kena had cross gen graphics but PS2 quality gameplay. I treat them just like AAA games from Ubisoft, EA and Activision. If they dont have engaging gameplay they arent worth playing.

I dont mind the Cupheads, Inside, and Into The Breach, but too many of the indie games feel like cheap shovelware devs make when they know they cant make a competent third person shooter. They settle for 2D graphics but then forget to include good 2D gameplay. I dont think any 2D indie game has ever beaten a retro 2D mario game in level design in 15-20 years of trying. 99.99% of them are simply not fun to play.

As for my current views of the industry, I havent played a decent game since HFW so yeah, I am not really having a lot of fun. the most fun i have had is recently when i went back to TLOU2 to compare the recent TLOU gameplay leak and found myself engaged in fantastic combat. So yeah, 1 game in 6 months shows the industry is in a pretty bad state. What have Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Activision, Ubisoft and Take2 released since HFW and Elden Rings in February? Nothing. It's been a whole lot of nothing for a good 6 months, and I am not about to settle for cat simulators.

That's not as much of an insult as you might think- PS2 had masterpiece after masterpiece for its entire generation while with PS5 i don't really see much i want to play. There's Returnal which will be getting a PC version soon thank god, and that's about it. The massive amount of hype i had for GT7 slowly died off when Sony bungled it the way they did (genuinely went through the 5 stages of grief over the microtransactions, i'm not even actually joking), never gave a shit about GOW after the reboot, don't care about Miles Morales (which is on PS4 anyways), Horizon looks generic, so on so forth. It's just pure apathy on my side. If more games had PS2 quality gameplay, stories, music, and dare i say visuals (because it's more interesting to look at a game with an art direction besides just immense detail and realistic lighting) i think the industry would be in a better place

Remember people, it's a nonsense game not worth your time if it doesn't fit the template:

✅ Third person perspective
✅ Cover shooting
✅ Slow walking sections
✅ CLIMBING
✅ Loads of cutscenes
✅ Bombastic set pieces that are nothing more than a glorify QTE sections with illusion of player's control

Stray just needed to add cover to its' shooting.

He said half the list. I'm sure the didn't mean Stray as it's his avatar. Stray is THE REAL™ game.

True. I'm a bit confused by that. We've got:

1. Cat game.
2. Angry game.
3. German game.
4. Physics game.
5. Single player Carcassonne game?
6. Mirror's Edge meets Anime but not Anime game.
7. Dunking on Jonathan Blow game.
8. I'm just going to assume this is what happens if Genital Jousting, Will Wright's Spore and the Human Society had a baby.
9. Outerspace Craft 'em up.
10. Craft 'em up in the ocean.

I'd never heard of 5, 8 or 9. I'll check out 5 though. Looks neat.

It’s actually extremely useful since you can filter it however you want, remove any reviews from someone who has only played a few hours and you can sort for recent reviews to see if an update has broken/improved something etc.

Metacritic user scores are trash in comparison since anyone can go in and post a 10 or 1 without even having touched the game.

And critics review have issues too, critics are rating versions that barely even day 1 buyers get to see since games are always updated, and critics never return to update their reviews.

Result: A bad pre-launch review version will forever hurt a game even if it turns into the best game ever a day after launch.
And a great pre-launch version will forever help a game even if it turns into a devilish monetizing trap a day after launch.

I will never understand the fascination with completely brainless "look at pretty graphics" type of games. completely defeats the purpose of being a video game imo
Your definition of videogame is outdated.

Consoles and PCs are a medium of entertainment and expression.

The days of having only games with characters running and jumping or slashing bushes with swords are long gone.

Also, you dont need to understand the appeal of something that doesn't appeal to you, just understand that each person have different needs and tastes. We are all different.
