2 ep in :
Jade is unsufferable, Billie not so much but maybe it is just she has it worst, getting beat up and all...
The bully angle had me flabbergasted, the loner girl who looks lesbian as fuck being in fact a goddam bully and a generally horrible human being is kinda hilarious. Even though it serves (i guess) to show Lance Wesker "ruthlessness" (the principal's office scene), it is weird to see this character, who is introduced being shunned by the others (which have been characterized as dummies - I think Jade says "cute but dumb", like the judgemental cunt she is, after introducing herself to the neighbros -) being a violent douchebag with school shooter vibes. It is not woke at all...

The animal activist storyline is a bit woke but in a 15 years old discovering activism way, not a full on antifa rethoric dumbness so it didn't bother me.
I guess it is that way the virus spread and if true it is a bit dumb but not more than a lot of other netflix shows and it is believable, as the girls are 15 year old white girls with white girls problems - metaphorically speaking -

The post apocalyptic scenes have a janky quality to them i kinda like, but i kinda liked Van Helsing too so it might be just my bad taste.

Tl ; dr :
Overall it can be enjoyable if you like post apocalyptic jank and teen drama.
There also is enough stupidity to have a good laugh, and judging by @Ailynn 's gif (spoiler alert :messenger_hushed:) there is plenty more to come !
Van helsing was absolutely atrocious...

Tried the first episode. I want to watch people fighting off BOWs, not Wesker threatening to get someone fired because his daughter had a fight with some other kid at school. Other than the terribly done zombie Doberman near the end of the episode, I was completely bemused at how not 'Resident Evil' this actually was. I've got better things to do with my time.

I know i have a bit of a shitty taste concerning netflix shows... I find jank funny but even i couldn't stomach the last three seasons (from the moment they find Abraham Van Helsing onward)...

I'm not a fan of race changing the characters tbh, it's like are they trying to push an agenda.

I don't care if whatever race they started out to be but suddenly changing them to another race for the sake of "appealing" isn't good imo. It just adds confusion.
seems like Netflix borrowed the diversity generator from Activision. :messenger_unamused:

WOW!

And it's an ADAPTATION... it isn't meant to #Replace the videogames story. There's been nearly 30 years of Resident Evil... And you can't stomach an alternate universe version?

I swear... Some of y'all are borderline st... Lemme stop.

OK, I'm gonna tell my Mrs that ign and gamespot say its actually brilliant. So we will try again and finish the series but I just can not believe those reviews.

The lead is a fucking idiot that wouldn't last 5 minutes and unless it says she is some super hero injected with some shit there's no way...lol

I mean, wow I'm actually in shock it's getting good reviews from what I've seen.

Its really good. I'm surprised myself as I went into it not expecting much. It gets better and better each episode. I love all the references and how it ties into the RE universe, but I love that it simply seeks to be its own thing.

Overall, I'm happy I just watched it instead of falling for bullshit by other users. I ended up liking it quite a bit and love Lance as Wesker, I won't spoil anything, but holy shit...they made the right choice casting him as I can't see someone else playing such a crazy role, soooo much of the lore of crazy shit in RE is in this, some times as a serious plot point, other times poking fun at RE itself. So anyone thinking some of the story shit doesn't make sense, that is RE in a nutshell, a massive fuck ton in the IP doesn't make sense and is even laughable as its not like Capcom is telling us its a fucking comedy game or something, the show many times is being satirical or poking fun at some of the series moments that sorta became memes. In all, I'm happy i watched the whole thing and its easily the best RE adaption ever made.

In regards to the whole "idiot that wouldn't last 5 minutes", lmfao...sir, you just pretty much stated all the other RE characters in the game series. Leon as a Rookie magically becomes some FBI / secrets service person and Chris is in volcanoes punching boulders? Its not saying I don't disagree with you, simply that in the world of RE, that is completely moot. That has been my criticism regarding the game series for generations, but after a while I just let it go. RE simply isn't some by the books, factual documentary on a real life thing, its a fake world with a bunch of hero types that never loose or something lol If someone can get thru all those RE games, this story is literally right at home with the RE concept.

I actually like that she makes mistakes, I like that her character isn't some "i know all" or something and that you can watch not knowing what will happen next or something. So I was ok with the mistakes she makes in the show.

I'd rather have that then....I'm punching boulders in a volcano lol

DeafTourette DeafTourette Agreed. If Capcom doesn't fucking care, I have no clue why anyone would be crying over that shit. Wesker's race in the show has never come up to argue "agenda". Its like SJW's that argue every fucking guy or white person is a "derrrr aGeNDaZ" with not a single shred of evidence to support the nonsensical claim. His performance is so great, I can no longer see Wesker as anyone other then Lance! lol I shall not spoil it for anyone, but its clear why they went with such an actor.

Based on WHAT Wesker is, I don't even know if we can argue he is any one set race or look or anything like that. Based on the actual source material, he can pretty much be any race folks. Nothing in the game series has ever been stated about him that focused on him being a white male as part of the story, all that is interchangeable as he isn't fucking human... You'd think the people crying over this shit would know the source material.

If Capcom doesn't give a shit, not sure why anyone else would when its their IP and they are oking all of this.

It was pretty bad, but Kate Beckinsale is hot so it had at least one redeeming features. Also, the Dracula brides were hot as well.
I'm easily pleased by some stuff :)
Not the same Van Helsing, we were talking about the (really poor) netflix show.

I think it's actually quite bold of them to cast Wesker as a black man. He is the big villain of the series after all. I'm surprised they didn't keep him white.

Same.

I'm happy they didn't just try to make some look a like carbon copy type deal and looked for an actor that can really take on that role. With him not really being human, you can cast a lot of different people as him. After finishing the show, Lance was the right choice. One of my favorite performances of his as the range is crazy on him lol

As EDMIX EDMIX stated, it's as absurd as the games are storywise... It's quite good when you remember the games weren't Shakespeare
So we just hand wave away things like the shoddy security at Umbrella with facial recognition cameras that don't require faces to let people through?

The game stories were mostly slock as an excuse to fight through bio weapons of war, in this show it's an excuse to also give a lot of CW level of teen drama? Could you see why RE fans might be put off by this show?

Are we talking about the sify one?

Because thats how bad it is in the games too. Be like "i left da keys under that picture frame to the entire secrets lab yoloz, oh yea bring me something from StarBuckz" lol My friends and I always joke about everyone in this situation in the games just leaving passwords behind and telling folks where keys are to the ultra "secret" lab lol We just let it go, none of the shit in RE can really be taken seriously as some deep, realistic take on how a company is run, let alone some pharmaceutical company that is evil and hellbent on taking over the world.

Can't jump over table so better risk my life going around whole building.
Keys told to you thru the worst security known to man
Teen dramas? LIke Ada and Leon? Billy and Rebecca? Steve and Clair? lol

So.....as a massive RE fan, sir....a lot of this show is a direct reflection of the shit already in the games in some form. If they had that shit as an "excuse to fight through bio weapons", well guess what? That bitch is out in the wild as an excuse to run from some big ass warm after she runs from zombies.

Most of what I read people crying about, can be found directly in the RE universe. To say how unrealistic this is or that is...well....welcome to the Resident Evil IP I guess lol That sounds right at home.

So...I don't disagree with what you are saying, simply that those same views can be had towards the very game series it came from. I even joked with a person talking about how unrealistic it would be for a company to cover up a whole city being destroyed and funny enough, they didn't fucking know THAT was done in the game, that didn't fucking come from the show. A lot of wild shit happens in the games, makes sense that a lot of wild shit would happen in the shows.

If you're gonna count the gameplay puzzles then yeah the games are pretty silly too, I'm mainly talking about the story cut scenes though.

Even then RE1 - 4, 7, Revelations 1 & 2 at least don't reach the level of cringe drama seen in the nexflix show that I can recall. Don't recall much of RE5 and haven't played RE0, RE:CV, RE6, RE8. Even if those had very cringe moments, would you really say they defined the RE games franchise?

Things like "The master of unlocking" at least to me is comically bad rather then annoyingly bad as the teen drama seen in the netflix show.

TV Show or the Hugh Jackman movie?
If the latter that film pure silly summer blockbuster fun and clearly doesn't take it's self seriously.
Something Hollywood has forgotten how to do
I don't really understand the hate for it
Plus it has Kate

Pretty much it was alright, would watch again if nothing else is on.
So you mean the TV Show, yeah I haven't seen that how bad is it?

Well I never said Oscar worthy 😉
But I think if you liked The Mummy series you'd probably like Van Helsing.
It's bad even for sify standards, not much to say.

P.s. tbf the mummy is like 1000x times better than van helsing and one of the best films in the genre.

I guess i watched it on Netflix (in France). The one with tougher-than-thou Vanessa. It had like 6 or 7 each one shittier than the last 😂

Yeah it's definitely the lesser film, still a silly brainless fun movie.

I couldn't finish the first episode, Lance can only do so much when the rest of the cast is fucking insufferable. There wasn't a single scene that was good in the 30 minutes I watched.

Just now seeing this... I started my comment on page 3... Interesting.

I'm not watching the video because I can't hear right now. But why do you surmise that I like it?

And what was "woke" about it? I couldn't think of anything other than the 2 moms thing.
I “surmised” this because you said it’s a really good show in another thread.

I couldn't give a fuck about race changing, don't know why anyone gives a shit about that. I'm the weirdo that thinks Idris Elba would've made an amazing Geralt, don't give a shit that he's supposed to have "milky white skin and hair", I mean it's not like his skin and hair was milky white in Witcher 3 but that didn't bother anyone.

........But this show is fucking retarded man. It is probably the worst video game adaptation ever made. Bad CG, terribad acting, embarrassing script, "what appeals to the kids now" desperation by the soundtrack and cinematography, amateurish directing, I mean it's a starter kit of terrible decisions dude. It's cool if you enjoy it, but you gotta understand why people are hating it on some level man.

This reads like:

"I don't like because of the black and brown actors being the focus of the story"

Haven't seen this show yet but just wanted to comment on this point. I am a huge fan of Lance being an avid Destiny player and loved his contribution to Horizon series. With that being said, I thought this casting was pretty weird because I thought it was heavily implied in the games that the origins of Umbrella/Wesker project were rooted in white supremacy/neo nazism. Dr. Spencer sought to create the "superior human being" using eugenics, and kidnapped children with what he considered superior human traits, starting with Wesker. Namely strong and smart white children. There are some pretty heavy handed Friedrich Nietzsche's Ubermenschen vibes in the story, especially with some of the backstory how Spencer's worldview was heavily inspired by the second world war and his exploitations in Africa that lead to RE5. Maybe I am misinterpreting/misremembering things but those are the vibes I was getting. I am sure Lance did a great job and I will eventually give the show a watch, but the casting felt super weird for the above reason.

How about 10 minutes into the first episode and a black character complains about the town having too many white people?

Just imagine the meltdown if it was a white character complaining about a town having too many black people.
Sounds like Resident Evil to me. Oh, wait. It doesn't. What nonsense.

Oh God not again this excuse. The Netflix show was decent for almost half of the season. Then it become a rollercoaster of idiocy. They had just to keep the tone of the first episodes until the end; no one forced them to put on the screen the shit show we seen just for the sake of the game reference, it worked perfectly without it. It's illogical. I swear to God when I seen Lance try to imitate Wesker of RE5 dodging some bullets. You expect a revisitation of Wesker after seen half of the series, why even use the more trash version of the game.

I quite enjoyed Netflix's Ingenuity (a.k.a Way) of The Househusband live-action shorts but I think that may have been down to Kenjiro Tsuda's fantastic charisma.

Looks like there is another live action version around??
