What 3rd Person Games on PC Have Interesting Mods?

I just got my email from Steam that my Steamdeck is available and I completed the order and am now waiting for my shipping date.

I have only played a couple of PC games in the past, as my computers have always been pretty limited. I'm looking forward to finally being able to try games that have interesting mods. I have always enjoyed third person games like GTA, RDR, Mafia and MGSV. I can't wait to try Valheim, as it sounds like something I could play for 100+ hours (third person, exploration, resource gathering, Viking setting, base building).

Does anyone have recommendations for third person games on PC? I am hoping to find some games that have mod communities who have made some interesting new content.

Probably, you are going to want to start by looking at the steam workshop entries for games you have already played. A problem with that might be that popular games like GTA5 or Witcher 3 might have a lot of mods, but you would have to go outside of steam.

Check out the Mount and Blade games.
I just checked out the Mount and Blade games on Steam. Mount and Blade: Warband, which was apparently first released in 2010, has some interesting historical mods (Ottoman Empire, 13th century Europe, Peloponnesian War), but it looks like many of these mods have been abandoned. I took a look at the page for Mount and Blade II: Bannerlord, which was apparently released in early access in 2020. This game looks to have added an economic sim, which would seem to be right up my alley. I added Bannerlord to my wishlist and will pick it up when it is on sale.

MGSV and RDR2 have really good mods.
I took a quick look. The RDR2 mod for bank robberies looks interesting. Other than that, I'm not sure if I saw anything that would warrant buying/playing RDR2 a second time The MGSV mods sound pretty interesting though. I read about one that adds 50 new side-op missions to the game (through another MGSV mod, Infinite Heaven). Given that MGSV is now only $19.99 on Steam, this might be worth a shot for 50 new side missions.

Always shop around before you buy something directly on Steam. They’re usually cheaper elsewhere.

The RDR2 mods are neat as hell but maybe not worth slogging through the whole game again.

Good point on watching for deals on cdkeys. People on here often mention these deals, so I will keep that in mind. Thanks!

Some of the mods actually became there own game in the end. At least the multiplayer only ones.

Was originally a mod called Napoleonic Wars for Mount & Blade warband which was sold as DLC.

Interesting. So this is multiplayer? I'll have to try Mount and Blade first before I decide if I want to give multiplayer a try. I never like playing multiplayer games until I after I am familiar playing with the controls and the basic gameplay loops.
