SEGA needs to learn from Marvel Studios and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

and introduce a multiverse for Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Marvel Studios did it with insane crossovers like Spider-Man No Way Home and Doctor Strange into the Multiverse. Seeing three Spider-Man in a movie invoked so much nostalgia and a callback for the numerous iterations before it. Therefore appreciating the past and acknowledging the existence of those storylines.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did it with the movie "Turtles Forever".

DC attempted the same thing with Barry Allen meeting an alternate version of Barry Allen.

I want SEGA to go full-on Sonic multiverse and tap and reach every single character past and present in a video game.
They did it with Sonic Generations, but I feel that their reach could be on the quality and ambition of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Put all the Sonic characters so far from the comics, tv series, games, etc in one game.
Each gamer has their favorite take on which Sonic character interpretation they prefer, some prefer the Original Sonic, the Sonic Boom, Sonic, etc.
There are characters that made one-time appearances and were never seen again.
Just having one game that allows one to play as those skins and characters would be bloody amazing.

But SEGA keeps on putting mediocre crap-looking games like Sonic Frontiers.
When will we get someone in a director position of power like Masahiro Sakurai to head the franchise series and just put everything into it and all the hype into one game.

These companies completely fail at creating hype, if anything they create more negative criticism.

Honestly, we need more ambitious game directors to helm franchises than stupid fucking suites.

I think Generations was a better take on this idea. Instead of all the shitty Sonic from all the shitty recent games they just took classic and modern, and the game was pretty fun too.

Sega just needs to stop trying to re-invent the wheel with each new entry. Generations, Unleashed, Colors, even Lost World all had good elements and ideas, but instead of looking at criticism and releasing direct sequels that address the issue and build upon what was good they throw it all in the trash and then try something new.

I'm pretty sure that even now, it was always just Modern and Classic Sonic. at most there was a spinoff or stuff like cartoons, movies and comics but even those are rather faithfull to the games nowdays. Now if we were talking about the early 90's during the Genesis days, where Sonic was still new and liscensors were still trying to figure out what the franchise was even about, thus creating several completely different, coexisting alternative versions of the character, then that would be a different story.

I don't really get the complaint. Unleashed, Generations and Colors ARE direct sequels to eachother gameplay wise, in the same way Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Odyssey are. Just because half of the game is taken by a different gimmick (Werehog, Classic, Wisps) doesn't make that less true. People act like SEGA just makes a brand new game from scratch every 2 seconds, but they do stick with a formula and build it up for a while, they only truly reinvent the wheel once a decade once they realize people don't like their current formula.
They can't even make a Sonic the Hedgehog video game worth playing. We now want to see a multiverse of Sonics? Fuck that.

SegaSammy needs to be acquired for the greater good. Put Sonic Team out of it's misery.
Sonic bad, therefore they shouldn't risk it and play it ultra super safe much to the detriment of true fans, because that's what people who aren't even fans of a franchise like in long running IP's, right? Also, do you guys know that TV Shows, Movies and Comics are made by companies SEPARATE from SEGA and Sonic Team?

"TrUe FaNs" Indeed. Separate companies would better manage Sega's IP graveyard than SegaSammy does, which is what any "TrUe FaN" of any Sega franchise would want out of them at this point. The Sonic IP being ramped up into a multiverse project is a bad joke though. There's not enough extra money hidden in the fur suits of all the perverts in the world to sustain that much product marketing.

Acquisition is the best answer. It happened when Sammy took them. It needs to happen again, preferably by Microsoft.

You know, I could have read "make Fighters Megamix 2" out of the title of this thread and it'd be a way better idea than the actual proposition.

I mean, jeez, it's not like Sega's doing much else with the Virtua Fighter engine. Imagine a new take on Fighters Megamix with Sakura Wars, Yakuza, Valkyrie Chronciles, PSO2, and Bayonetta along with the roster from the previous Megamix (but also with more Sonic the Fighters characters, because it was silly of Sega not to have Sonic in the first one)

SEGA also needs to learn from Nintendo.

Nintendo decided to go back to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and add quite a large impressive set of maps to an old 2014 Wii U game and ported to NS in 2017.
I wish that SEGA can have that same sense of dedication with its Sonic Racing games. Sonic Team Racing's online multiplayer is completely dead across all of its multiplatform ports.
If SEGA is going to be a multiplatform publisher, it must also learn to reignite its franchise's relevance and provide cross-play multiplayer in its games.

SEGA has a lack of action RPG for the Sonic franchise.
I would love to see a Sonic game where the focus is more on his friends and their unique abilities, gameplay, and personality so it can create that foundation for newcomers to know and be aware of these characters.
People who haven't played many Sonic games know Sonic the Hedgehog, he's the mascot. He's like Mario dud, Tails is the sidekick, like Luigi. Dr. Robotnik or Dr. Eggman is the Bowser equivalent. Amy is compared to Princess Peach with a twist where Amy and Princess Peach would require rescue, Mario is chasing Princess Peach while it's the opposite with Amy. Knuckles is the rival to Sonic, this is known from the movie Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Shadow the Hedgehog is the typical Dark version of Sonic, as Dark Link is to Link, Dark Samus is to Samus, Wario as to Mario, some edgy character trope.
If someone new saw Big the Cat, Blaze the Cat, Cream, Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, Charmy Bee, Rouge the Bat, Jet the Hawk, Wave the Swallow, Storm the Albatross, etc. It would be a bit more difficult to point out and be written off as just another character Sonic met in his past games as their occurrence is not that frequent as to their original basis of the relationship. Thought these and numerous other niche characters have created a cult following and fan base that hasn't been tapped out or appreciated by the Sonic team, unfortunately.

Sonic Team also needs to learn to give logic to the level design in a clever twist, like Dr. Eggmans robots when sentient and started building levels out of passion much like that deleted scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 where the robot wanted to make poetry, a random robot wants to design levels, add grind rails, platforms, random bumpers and loop the loops for whatever reason. Dr. Eggman is like Tony Stark and his creations are like Ultron, aka Mecha Sonic.
Levels need to be grounded and have a logical flow.

This has nothing to do with Sonic's pisspoor mangament, which let's be honest, it's just used as an excuse to not allow the franchise to experiment and do stuff outside the safe status quo (Mario also suffered through that for a while, and is still suffering through it when it comes to the RPG's), nor do they even need any money than they already have.

They're already doing that storyline in a Netflix cartoon anyways, but they're doing it in the "safe cartoon tropes" way. OP is simply suggesting a piece of fun fanservice because a lot of the fanbase wants to see characters from older spinoff media back. (Like you'd be surprised how many want characters like The Freedom Fighters, Cosmo & The Metarex or even Sticks back)

They first need to create proper Sonic games.
And please, give me a break with this stupid idea of "multiverse". They did that autistic "story book" series, which were not only garbage, but used to boast Sonic as if he was some kind of god.

Meh. Not everything needs multiverse. Just let the Sonic Mania team take over. They clearly understand the character better than Sonic Team.

I'd almost agree but that DLC is for a 5 year old port of an 8 year old game, instead of straight up giving us MK9 with new Ideas, characters and brand new stages like the fans wanted. I would instead, updates every once in a while adding new characters, stages, skins, all completely for free.

Well if you're going to suggest a bad idea, let's make it a really bad idea and cover all of our bases with this character for the multiverse.

Sega's key franchises now are: Sonic, Yakuza, Total Rome, Football Manager, Company of Heroes. Maybe I missed a few.

Amazing what franchises they have which they never touch anymore. All they got to do is modernize them for modern day gaming as opposed to arcadey gaming where they can be beat in 20 minutes like during the Genesis days.

The multiverse is the reason why American comics are so unpleasant and impossible to follow. Why would anyone possibly want that for games too?

It will take the "TRUE" fans, to make a game that is worthy of the Golden Axe title, (just sayin) as Sega is about as bothered in brining that back, as Nintendo are in bringing F-Zero to the Switch anytime soon...

There is nothing that saps meaning and dramatic tension quite like this "multiverse" bullshit.

Kill modern Sonic, take the games away from Sonic Team and voila.

Alright, sure. What would be Sonic's version of this?

Shadow the Hedgehog on Gamecube doesn't count.
There's certainly gotta be something from the Archie comics. So many alternate universes and possible futures to had there that brooding vengeful Sonic probably happened a dozen times.

Sonic fans, it’s quite simple. The problem with Sonic is Sonic. Oh look I can run really fast. There’s not very much you can do with that. And when they’ve tried too, it usually turns out shit.

Good Sonic games exist and they're accessible to download/play now and in the foreseeable future. The concept is obviously too hard or impossible to be improved or adapted without changing Sonic's identity. Sonic fans, it's time to let go.

Sega would be awesome at making a Flash game. Just let the wall clipping happen, turn on blur to mask the janky graphics.

Running/falling through objects to eliminate enemies and bosses will then be a feature. Make it happen, Sega. Forget the Hedgehog. Approach DC for a sit down while wearing your cleanest diaper.
