AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 Finally Available for PC and Xbox Developers

I’m assuming there is no reason why PS5 can’t use it. MS have a marketing deal for it?
I believe some PS5 games already make use of the 1.0 version, so I see no reason why this new one wouldn't also be available there. Though no mention of PS5 is made in the article or Tweet.

It was the same thing when they announced 1.0. They didn't say PS5, but PS5 supported and used it in some games. Maybe they have one of these sneaky ole marketing deals platform makers be doing.

No marketing, this is just integrated directly into the Xbox development kits. Easy and immediate access to anyone developing games on it.

For PS4/5 it would probably require a little bit more work and external integration on a developers part.

If I recall correctly, Sony did not implement all features of RDNA2 in the PS5 console. Perhaps this limits how effective the FX Super Resolution technology can be on the platform?

I understand this, but maybe the full effects of the technology cannot be tapped unless you have RDNA2 GPU. The PC version of God of War uses FRS2 but not the console version, so that seems fishy.

Maybe you are wrong and once again just propagating this full RDNA2 narrative that MS has been pushing so hard just to be disappointed by reality later, wake up, this same things happened countless time already.

If I recall correctly neither MS implement all RDNA2 tech on Series X too but FSR2.0 isn't about RDNA2 features at all.
Xbox doesn't have Infinity Cache so the whole "full RDNA2 feature implementation" is already BS by default.

I'm not propagating anything. I was asked a question and I gave a possible explanation. I am just as much in the know about why the PS5 is omitted as anyone else.

And I just answered you question, every time anything like this happens it's the same dance about full RDNA2 and it always ends the same way. I just saved everybody the trouble of getting into it again. Sony cares about a lot of thing things, but bragging about having basic AMD driver features just ain't one of them, ultimately that's what this comes down to.

What are you basing this on?

Absolutely nothing. The only thing we know for a fact is that the FSR plugin is directly integrated into the GDK.

We don't know, and there's little reason to believe, that it's integrated into the PS5 dev environment.

And before anyone blows a gasket, at no point am I saying PS4/5 won't be capable of using FSR 2.0.

they don't need a blatant cheap low effort generic temporal reconstruction technique

imsomniac's temporal injection would probably brutally murder this fsr 2.0 thing

"FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 is designed to boost framerates in supported games. As an advanced temporal upscaling solution, it will be more demanding on graphics cards than a spatial upscaling solution like FSR 1.0. Gaming experience may vary, depending on specific system specifications, the requirements of individual games that support FSR 2.0, and the target resolution. Nevertheless, gamers may be able to have a good upscaling experience on lower performing or older GPUs."

The highlighted areas suggests that older GPU architecture or even some that don't have all RDNA2 features may not see as much of a boost as newer full RDNA 2 ones. Nothing controversial is being posited here.

That doesn't really mean much since Sony is typically tight-lipped about its API whereas Microsoft actively markets theirs. Either way, I was asking what he was basing the difficulty of integration on.
They said a little bit more work. That's a safe assumption based on the info in this tweet.

I have played both Spiderman games and imsomniac's temporal injection didn't look much better.

If it is indeed easier to implement on xbox, because it is integrated into GDK, then there will be no performance parity between both consoles and I don't think that will work.

That said, I hope both consoles use it as much as possible, because I want better performance goddammit!

Doesn’t Nvidia cards get a big boost too tho? FSR 2.0 has nothing to do with RDNA2 specific tech.

It's seems incredibly easy to integrate so it shouldn't be an issue.

It doesn't reference GPUs that "don't have all RDNA2 features" at all. Retail GPUs are not custom jobs like PS5's SoC so I don't see how anything quoted there pertains to PlayStation.

LMAO. The concern trolling is strong with this. You literally do not need RDNA 2 GPU for the "full effects" of FSR 2.0, heck the tweet you posted even lists "Xbox One" in there. That means even last-gen consoles and older (DX11) PC GPUs are capable of supporting the feature. Also, Forspoken on PS5 gets FSR 2.0 implementation along with PC:
The PC and PS5 versions will also benefit from the AMD FSR 2.0 implementation.

Many 3rd party devs have already used it. CD Projekt RED, Respawn, Gearbox, and IO Interactive to name a few.

If Starfield really is having trouble reaching a stable 30fps, then hopefully FSR2.0 helps in this regard.

Starfield had performance dips cause we were seeing a very early in development build. It'll run much better by release anyway, and I would assume most games in development on GDK right now should start looking into using FSR anyway, unless they're using engines which have their own built-in upscaling tech.

Hopefully this helps Series S a lot with cross gen games in particular, looks a bit late for Xbox One but maybe they could patch Xbox One X FH5 with a 60fps mode for example.
I doubt any game that has already been released will be updated with this technology. Expect games releasing this fall and onward to have FSR 2.0 implementation or a similar technology, either in-house or from a rival.

Ps5 uses it in forspoken right so it's obviously already available on ps5.

Microsoft and AMD have just added it to their development kit environment which is amazing news.


Yes, people are reading too much into this news lol. It's only just an ease of use thing for developers.
