Anyone addicted to a game (you enjoy) but wish you weren't so you can play other games

I've found myself another game that I find quite addictive. And although I enjoy playing it, I do find myself thinking to myself that I shouldn't be playing it and should spend my time playing something more substantial.

This happened to me when I couldn't play anything other than Rocket League. And now its..... Virtual Pool 4 :messenger_smirking:!

Virtual Pool is quite new to me but efore it I was playing through some of Sony's finest (TLoU, Uncharted). GoW is the next series I chose to play through next, starting with the very first game GoW 1. I like GoW 1. I've been really enjoying it. I'm surprised how well it holds up after all this time but.... i just dont have the enthusiasm for it when virtual pool 4 is grabbing my attention.

Not at the moment. However, World of Warcraft the thread. So glad that's behind me. The hooks were deep.
Yep.

BC to end of WoTLK was the most I have ever been consumed by any form of media. Ridiculously addicted to the game.

These days, nothing comes close. I still play a fair chunk of Destiny, but drop it if I want to play something else.

Fifa Ultimate Team definitely, never tried it before but kind of got interested once I played eFootball 22 and Im enjoying it! its a card building game and more about the menus and trading than actual play, but im enjoying building my dream squad minus some problems like the shitty chemistry system.

But the gameplay itself, Im enjoying it online, I play a slow methodical build up play which is often at odds with the meta, which is basically hold sprint and trick your way through with ping pong passing. I don't sprint at all and using passing and build up- Im sure it won't work at the higher divisions but for now its fun.

I got addicted to nioh 2 tried to beat the underworld levels! I did it! That’s the only game where I couldn’t stop playing! It was really hard, one hit and you could die, if you didn’t attacked fast enough the enemies would regain health plus you had to defeat 2 bosses to pass that level!

Idk what happened. I used to love playing smaller games and single player stories.
Now I just want to come back from office, finish 1-3 activities and go do something else.

I got addicted to Arkham games though. Played all of them on repeat without a break, couldn't get enough of them.

Yeah I was on that Rocket League grind for a couple years. Little to nothing else could hold my attention, and RL was the ultimate 5 minute dopamine hit

I'm in that boat right now. Again!

Beat it on PS4 and started to replay again from scratch on PS5. Figured I'd be able to do it much quicker, but still getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis likely because I'm working with a completely different build/playstyle than first time.

Rust. I'm admin in a modded server and started working on the plugin side of it. I'm in work as we speak looking at plugin related stuff

Yeah WoW being mentioned in the first response is accurate. When you're deep in WoW you often physically don't have the time to play other stuff. Especially if you're a GM/officer and you have the 2nd job of organising a bunch of idiots 2/3 times a week.

I had to reset my build so many times, played with many armor sets. In my experience only 2 builds work for the underworld!

This was me back in college... Also in recent years with Paladins, but that shit gets me overcompetitive so I started playing less and right now I just play casually

Absolutely. I'm super glad that there won't be a dungeon finder on the WOTLK classic servers, otherwise i think i couldn't resist.

my most played game is Rocket League which is currently at 830 hours but i started playing in 2015 so it's really not a lot. there was a point where it was all i ever played and it was pissing me off because i couldn't stop playing when i wanted to play other stuff.

Paradox strategy games are my krypronite. I can get lost in them for hours upon hours upon hours. I've managed to wean myself off City Skylines. Once I learnt the ins and outs of HoI4, I quit in frustration because a lot of the combat mechanisms can be horrifically cheesed or a pain in the arse to deal with; the recent update to tanks gives you the ability to design your own, which sounds good, but in reality is just another way of cheesing the AI and I prefered using the historical models anyway. Don't even get me started on the lame espionage and ridiculously destructive resistance mechanics.

The two games I cannot leave alone are Crusader Kings 3 and Stellaris, they are an absolute joy for me to play; I've been playing Stellaris since 2018 with over 2000 hours logged. It's that good. Stellaris is even better these days since Paradox massively beefed up the AI and diplomacy systems.

OP, Virtual Pool 4 is great but Shooters Pool is even better IMO. I think it has more realistic physics.

edit: it's fake lol. 1,800 is a lot but i've seen people with thousands of hours in this game. highest i seen on steam with a quick look is about 15,000 lol. i don't know where people get the time.
I'm definitely a noob compared to some nut job out there and I get reminded to uninstall the game on a weekly basis.
Can't help it though, I love (and hate) this game.

Yeah, you feel so fragile its hard not to just go for honda/omoikane and regen on absorb setups. Doing ok-ish with a nuke heavy build but it kinda sucks against some of the hyper-aggressive bosses.

Dunno whether you agree with this, but I always get the sense that the expansion areas in Nioh games are a good indication of where TN are looking to go next. So with the first game the expansion was extra heavy on Yokai bosses and we got the Yokai heavy Nioh 2. Now, if you look at the Nioh 2 DLC, we start getting the really super-fast and aggressive bosses like Tsuchigomo, which are awfully reminiscent of the stuff in the Wo Long trailer... Kinda scary!

I was addicted to Scrabble Go, I had to win the tournaments and kept winning games, was jonesing when people weren't making moves, but there ended up too many people obviously using cheat apps that showed them the best word, nobody knows all these random non-vowel words random after loosing 3/4 of a game.

The Witcher 3 kept me going, even though I got sick of the repetitive nature of the game.

Since these 2 game addictions and I beat the Scrabble one by deleting it and I beat the Witcher one by well finishing that game, I've realized when I get into that loop, so I notice the start of it, so I won't get caught again.

DOTA and Warzone. Gladly I stopped playing both. Just two days ago I deleted warzone so I could focus on single player games.

Uncharted2 and 3 MP, ranked number 40 in the world, playing 6 hours per day, completely owned, addicted, and big problems with my ex wife...what a memory...

I keep playing Civ 6 and I hate it so much, but I also like it a lot specially the early game and it's like mediating to me at this point, it really clears my mind.

ROCKET LEAGUE

I swear I turn on my PS5, and look at all the games I have... then go... eh, I just wanna play Rocket League. It's great because I can pop in my headphones, listen to some kick-ass music and just zone out. In other games, I have to pay attention to the story and the dialog and where to go and what to do. Rocket League just lets me relax.

I used to be like this when I played CSS. Now I'm like the complete opposite. Cleared all my backlog and can't find anything to play. Competitive MP doesn't give me anything anymore. :messenger_pensive:

I still play Overwatch team deathmatch. It's hasn't had a new stage added in a year. It honestly boring as fuck, but it scratches my competitive inch so I keep going back.

Used to be street fighter 5, but I bought it early, and didn't feel like buying characters to be able to practice agasint them. I'm looking forward to SF6, but I feel like I'm going to drop it for the same reasons.

I'm always replaying Chrono Trigger, Persona 4/5 and Super Mario World and Megaman X... no matter what I'm currently playing whenever I take a break, I go back and relax play one of those games.

Not now, but RuneScape almost ruined me, not just my interest in gaming.

I also played too much Splatoon and Fortnite.

Still playing League of legends after 10 years.
Not really addicted, but it's still my fall back game of choice.

Used to be CS1.3 then Ragnarok Online then Dota then League.

I don’t have that one game anymore and I kinda want to have one just for when I don’t have any motivation to play any game.

I've had to uninstall Rocket League multiple times to push myself towards my backlog. It's too easy to play "one more game" for several hours.

Game is 10 yrs old, thats 2000hrs a yr maybe close to 40 hrs a wk. If thats the only game they play, and I know a lot, its not unfathonable. In fact i would say that is low. Go look at some of the Payday 2 accounts, the Division, Left 4 Dead, etc. A lot of people I know play 1-2 games and will play somthing else once or twice and then back to what they like. Not a big deal.

I'm addicted to Vampire Survivor. I do not like the graphics, but find myself wanted to play it fairly often, even though it is super easy. I'm not sure what it is, but I find myself continuing to go back to it.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Don't think that ever happened to me.

Like yeah, I've been playing some games for way many more hours than I should have, but if that time was spent having fun... why regret it?
