Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy VII Rebirth for PlayStation 5. It is the second title in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. It will launch in winter 2023.

The company also confirmed that the Final Fantasy VII Remake project will consist of three titles. The first title is Final Fantasy VII Remake; the second Final Fantasy Rebirth; and the third and final title is to be announced.

Here is an overview of the game, via Square Enix:

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second story in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series which tells the story of the iconic fantasy game that redefined the RPG genre, in three distinct games. At launch, Final Fantasy VII Remake was celebrated by players and critics alike, selling over five million copies worldwide. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is slated to launch next Winter for PlayStation 5.

I would say Reunion is likely if it weren't for the fact CC is already called Reunion. With the game being three parts, this means part 2 will cut a lot of corners compared to Midgar, but with Rebirth likely also being a 40 hour game this will still be FAR bigger than the original which was 40 hours in total. I felt Remake was drawn out anyway, there was a lot of busywork to extend the playtime.

Rebirth will likely be as big, but might end at the ancient city then (or, since its called Rebirth, it will end after the True Past reveal). I wonder how they are going to handle travel, via menu, or an actual map, or not at all?

But its now clear that Remake is about events that transpire in the game, its its own thing. It didn't mean a remake of the game as we would think.

Rebirth?
Shame they didn't come up with a better name for the first part.
Remake & Rebirth just doesn't go
First game was a remake/ retelling of the original game (up to a certain story point)
Second game is a rebirth of the story, splitting off into its own original story line/ arc.
Third game is complete conclusion to brand new story. Would not surprise me if they even have the story taking place after where the original game ended.

Really it just seems like they copied the format of the latest Eva films.

Technically we're not even half-way through Disc 1.

In terms of game time, we're not. In terms of production values, we're easily a third in, if not more. FFVII is hugely front-loaded with assets. Midgar is basically a compact, fast-paced, linear roller coaster ride of unique locales and set pieces. Once you're out in the world you're bouncing between a lot of smaller locales for the remainder of the disc and the majority of disc 2. Disc 3 is basically late game wrap-up and the ending.

Wish they'd done that from the beginning.
I think they surprise people and I personally I liked that.

Yoko Taro pulled the same thing with Drakengard 3, advertising it as prequel to the original game but in the end goes entirely it’s own timeline.

hey thats great im happy for you and those that liked the "surprise". and i really mean that. i feel like people just think im being hater. im not. i hope its a GOAT for you.

but myself and many other ff7 fans, long time die hard ff7 fans, hated it. we asked for a remake for nearly 20 years. and finally when it seems they are listening to us, they make it painfully clear they havent listened to a word we said.

and to top it all off, they were kinda sneaky about it. it just feels like a kick in the nuts after a kick in the nuts.

its not all a wash. there are really great things about the remake sequel. but its not what people asked for, and i dont understand how no one over there stood up and said "well how about we just give them what they want?"

Subverting expectations only works when there's someone competent in charge.
Comparing Yoko Taro with Nomura is like comparing Ridley Scott with Uwe Boll.

I give you that, I'm fan of Nomura's games but when comes to story telling, Taro, Takahashi and Kamitani are WAY better.

I personally super excited for FFVII Rebirth and Crisis Core Remake and getting them day one but I'm beyond HYPE for Xenoblade 3.

Do you guys think in the future when there will be disc with more capacity they will put all three titels on one disc or make a release like back in the day with three discs in one case?

What people forget is that Disc 1 was 60% of the entire game. Its part 1+2 from this graph.

I usually clocked in at approx 20 hours when I had to swap. And I beat the game in 35. Disc 2 was mostly busywork for the huge materia which was a dud anyway, it took me about 10 hours and disc 3 was one dungeon but with assets from disc 1 and 2 so you could go everywhere, which could be done in under 5 hours or much less if you made a beeline for the boss.

I wonder were This will end at ?

My pick would be either City of the Ancients or Mideel. The former would make the most sense, its an incredible climax and part 3 would likely start with a Snowboard set piece on the northern continent.

Well the original game was three discs.

Yup, funny enough many of us had theories years ago about if it would be 3 parts for 3 disk and looks like.....we owe them some apologies lol edit Neff Neff sir, bravo and good call. Twas an educated guess. I don't remember everyone in those threads when we where all making those fucking theories and shit lol

March Climber March Climber Agreed, causes if its made to play 1 after the other as 1 complete thing, it would make sense to stick to that and imho, I think FFVII remake looks fucking amazing to build off of. I get some people can get stuck in this weird "it can be better" mindset and get stuck in this feature creep shit as each one comes out, but they are still making this to be something that can be played together. Just cause they have the power to make one look radically better and different, doesn't mean they actually should if the end goal is to actually have them play end to end or something as 1 game.

The 3rd part matching what the first part looks like is completely fine with me so long as they make a quality, finished product.
