The Last of Us Part I - PS5 - Coming September 2 (PC version in development)

They literally just pasted assets over the original game and motion capture
RE-MAKE
RE-MASTER

what is the difference ?
The make new models, new assets, new audio and so on.
Does not matter they used some of the original motion capture data. They expanded on it.
Just like Demons Souls. It also uses original animation data but every single model is new. The game is remade.
Why is this a problem in 2022 ?!

Some of the motion capture? how about every cutscene is the exact same

So what? How do You know?
nd said that they touched up facial animations and some motion capture.
But where is the line? If they make every new asset but leave 1 old texture.... it's no longer a remake?!
Nobody is questioning Demons Souls as a remake and it's using whole hitbox system, physics and core animations.

I could call these remakes but maybe also reimagining? reboot?
Remaster to me is very simple. 4k60, touch up exisiting textures, boom, go.
Anything above that is remake, reboot, reimagining depending how much you change I guess.

And I call using the exact same game using all the same motion capture and cutscenes that already had a remaster of the original last gen a remaster 2.0

ehhhh... these are more of a remakes to me.
I replayed MW remaster and original back to back and the games are so different.
Remake have every new model and all new graphics but it feels worse somehow.
Anyway. I am not sure what you are trying to say. I am not going to change my opinion so you are wasting your time
And I’m not changing mine and what I’m saying is your opinion isnt the definitive answer

I wouldn’t be caught dead playing 30fps personally, but if it’s just like tlou2 - why not release it on ps4 at 30 like that game
So when does next-gen start if you could virtually play all next-gen exclusives at dynamic 1080p/30fps? Isn’t it time we drop 30fps behind? Wasn’t everyone complaining about old-gen 30 fps versions with 1 and half minute loading times? We can’t have everything forever.

So it is a next gen game taking advantage of the ps5 hardware or is it just part1 running tlou2 engine?

Obviously if it’s a next gen game all the better.

This implies a game on TLOU2's engine would not be taking advantage of the PS5 hardware. Which is ridiculous by the way.

Please clearly state your objections, because there's a lot of different anger and I want to understand it all

1) I'm angry because there's a PC port
2) I'm angry because this isn't enough of an upgrade over the PS4 remaster

The cut-scenes should be basically the same because they are pre-authored using actual performance data, however there's a lot of work involved processing and mapping the capture onto the models in order to refine everything to the highest quality. Real-time is a whole other matter as its less about the "canned" data than how everything is linked and blended together, its interactions with the physics systems and the like. Moving the action to the motion-matching system employed in TLOU2 is likely a lot of work.

Animation is one of the most skill and tech intensive areas of game-dev because it has to connect dynamically and visually convincingly with everything else. Its why you very rarely if ever see a game with great animation being technically deficient in other areas, but quite often you come across titles that look tremendous in static scenes but have stiff and unconvincing animation.

This looks virtually identical to the ps4 game. There is no way they don’t have a ps4 version in development. Anyone who thinks this is the best naughty dog can do on a ps5 is not a true naughty dog fan.

As for why they won’t announce it. Maybe to avoid backlash to a cross gen game being announced in 2022. Maybe they are just waiting like they did for hfw, miles, gow and gt7. Even godfall was announced as a ps5 game. Re4 and re8 were announced as ps5 games.

Still hoping a more in-depth look reveals a surprise. There may be significantly more detail crammed in we’re not seeing plainly on YouTube compressed video. At least that’s the hope.

tlou2 reveal trailer had more detailed models in the kill sequences than the final game for example. That sort of stuff can be resolved with cutscene quality asset’s streaming in on demand etc.

Go watch the matrix or the unity enemies trailer on YouTube with the same compression and see if you can tell the difference. Then reduce the streaming res down to 480p and it will still look better than tlou because at the end of the day that’s a true next Gen showcase.

And make no mistake, naughty dog IS capable of those visuals. They will get there with their first or second next Gen only game.

P.s and no you won’t get those e3 character models and animations here for the same reason why you didn’t get them on the pro even though it was perfectly capable of running it. There’s because it’s being held back by the base ps4.

Could have been held back by memory, we don’t know for sure.

But yes, I get what you’re saying.

A 2021 report from Bloomberg suggested that Sony's San Diego Visual Arts Service Group started the development of The Last of Us Remake.
At that time, Naughty Dog was busy finishing up The Last of Us 2. After the sequel shipped, it seems that Naughty Dog took over the development of The Last of Us Remake.
POLYGON
The leak confirms a year’s worth of rumors, beginning with a Bloomberg report in April 2021, that Naughty Dog’s celebrated action game from 2013 was getting freshened up for Sony’s newest hardware. Bloomberg reported that Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group, a support studio based in San Diego, took on the remake with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s approval, but was later removed from the project and told to support Naughty Dog on The Last of Us Part 2.

Such a dumb comparison but ok. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
Is it though? Both are full priced games. Yes, TLOU is $10 more expensive, but the comparison holds because of the price tag. At least, link's awakening got a full graphics remake like TLOU, SOTC and Demon Souls. And TLOU is getting a gameplay remake as well. Skyward sword at full price is just yeesh.

I think both of the games shouldve been priced at around $40 max. SOTC was $40. Ratchet was $40. I think Nintendo and Sony are both out there overpricing their games knowing full well that people will pay for them. Good for business, bad for consumers.

I... definitely prefer Remaster/PS3 Joel. Had a certain animated/cartoonish aspect to his design that is now lost and it feels like he's just an old man now. Other than that, I'll probably play this once the price drops. Looks like they're not changing the story, which is good, but it's also a 3rd go around for me...
I hate the Joel haircut in the first two flashbacks in TLOU2. Thats not how I remember him looking in TLOU. But I love his character model in current day TLOU2. He looks a bit domesticated but still very good looking and badass.

Good.

They are using the bad character model for the remake.

What I miss the most is the fake character model they created for the state of play reveal.

This is the best kind of remake/remaster/whatever the fuck you want to call it. It's how you remember it looking in your mind, but compare it side by side and the improvements are very apparent.
