Jim Ryan and Playstation must be sued for misleading PS5 buyer

The day MS announced Xbox games will be on PC, it's the day I sold my Xbox one back then. And the same applied for the playstation 5 after owning one for few month and the hype wore off. I can wait couple of years to play the game on PC if this means
- hardware wise, 1 system to rule them all instead of having few them . In this case it's the PC.
- not to worry about backward compatibility issues ever
- software wise, all games to own under 1 platform.
- will always perform better than any console . The more advanced hardware you have the better.
- community mods in some games if needed.

Honestly it's not even close at this point. If you can save some money to own a PC. Its more than enough.

Hell you can even play switch games 4k 60 frames on PC. Just buy the game and dump it.
this shit is EXACTLY why i switched. not to mention PC's massive library of exclusive indies you can't even get on Switch

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Didn't that guy price the PS3 at $600 in 2006, thereby allowing PlayStations biggest competitor to flourish for an entire generation?

Jim Ryan never would have allowed that. He's too smart.
Nah that was Ken, he is the guy who still outsold the competition despite that.

It's a strange type of loyalty.

At the end of the day, are people in it for the games or for the piece of hardware.

I love PlayStation for their games, but i also love sitting back on the couch with a controller, its simplicity at its finest.

Even if I had the money to buy the most expensive PC rig, i would still prefer to play on the console.
Same it’s very convenient and there’s tons of cool games to enjoy.

Like Stray, that game looks fun "lollipop_disappointed:

here's a thought for OP
if exclusives matter so much, surely, the N64, which had literally nothing worthwhile to play besides the first party titles, should have been the best selling console of all time right?
oh wait it only did 32 million
gee its almost like it's just 1 part of the equation of why you should get a console, and not the entire fucking pie
nobody wants to spend half a grand just to play a few games

That's not true at all. The PC was all their main development machines anyway. The PS5's SSD can pass data to the GPU faster than the GPU can render the pixels. I don't think you have anything to worry about there.

Absolutely not.
Even the fastest SSDs have a latency of ~0.010 miliseconds.
L1 cache on RDNA2 has a latency of 27 nano seconds. L2 cache of 93ns.
Even the memory of the PS5 has a latency of 140ns.
This is several orders of magnitude faster than any SSD. No way an SSD can submit data in time to render pixels.
And then remember that the registers inside shader itself, is even faster than an L1 cache.
No f****** way an SSD can fill a register in time to render a pixel. Especially if that pixel has multiple passes.

Then there is the issue of memory bandwidth. The PS5 SSD has only 5.5 GB/s. Even considering best case scenario with data being fully compressed, maybe 25Gb/s
The vram of The PS5 has 448GB/s. This is 18 times more than the SSD at it's best case scenario.
How could an SSD expect to fill all those CUs with this tiny amount of memory bandwidth....

Who gives a shit if it comes to PC? I would rather have a complete physical copy for my consoles than a very minor graphical upgrade and idiotic mods that don’t add anything to the experience.

The bigger issue is Sony needs to diversify their lineup instead of having the same tired, shallow gameplay with an over emphasis on narrative.

I just want to play (good) games. I prefer it on PC, and if the trends allow me to forego consoles, then that's great with me. I've got a big enough backlog and I don't have that FOMO that many seem to suffer with, so I'm happy to wait a bit, if that's all it takes to confine my gaming to PC.

And Sony spreading their properties around to more gamers is only good for Sony (and gaming in general) imho. There are those who would never buy a console, and now they get to enjoy some of those previously exclusive games and that builds an affinity to Sony and their brand/games, which I don't think can be a negative from Sony's perspective.

And it surely doesn't hurt any PS console gamers other than their egos about feeling *special* somehow because they've got the PS box, lol. "You're so unique! You bought a device." :p

I
I really dont think so. Especially next gen
I agree that there will most likely be timed exclusives, however the timing window will be shortened to about a year.

Too much money being left on the table, especially with people not being able to get their hands on consoles.

I'm 100% sure he meant "can't". Cause he stated SSD has higher latency and slower throughput then RAM, SEVERAL times in the past.

This thread more or less = I'm butt hurt because other gamers get a chance to play these exclusives. Next go around buy a PC if you're so devastated.

I honestly don't understand why anyone would think Sony porting their games to PC after sales have saturated on PlayStation is a bad thing? If you're a Sony fan, that additional revenue allows to Sony to invest in more games/studios.

I will state the obvious. PS5's are still in short supply. Sell while you can recoup your money and buy your PC. That is, if you are being serious and not just stirring up poop.

That's another valid reason why Sony may keep the games timed on PS. 100% digital revenue on PSN versus 70-90% digital revenue from Steam/EGS. And if non-console PC gamers are happy to wait and buy as some here have indicated then nothing is lost with a staggered release strategy.

Can't wait to see Sony games on Xbox, just to see OP make another thread. Oh wait, does MLB The Show counts? I bet OP loved that it was $70 on PS or $1 for a month on GamePass.

That already happens and will continue. There are and will be select PS games (MLB, Bungie, etc.) on Xbox and you'll see select Xbox games (Minecraft, Call of Duty, etc.) on PS. I know console warriors are looking for the next "gotcha" but the whole war is looking sillier and sillier, frankly, with all the overlap going on.

the ssd talk... here and there again... i hope this ratched clank game is ported to PC someday and it runs perfectly fine, albeit with a bit slower load times on a 550 mb/s ssd so this discussion cease to exsist

If Spider-Man gets a mod to fix the 'remastered' Peter Parker face, the PC version will become the definitive one.
there's a chance that the original face could be somwhere inside the files, i hope. that way we can have the original face natively without external mods. mods have their scopes, they may not be perfect, but if it is going to be possible to get the original face back within the game files, that would be fantastic

Pretty funny this thread pops up this morning as my family got together last night for one of my nephews birthday parties that I game with who cheats like crazy on his PS4 and he texted me before hand saying he couldn’t wait to show me what his mom found for him.

I totally expected a PS5 and he switched over to PC gaming with a prebuilt 5800x 3060ti from Best Buy but his decision was based on everything being cross platform as he mainly plays Fortnite and Warzone

But PS did lose him to PC

Btw especially to some of my buddies on Discord have been warning you a VERY long time this was coming
I did this with the xsx this gen. No reason to own an Xbox anymore.

Hoping Sony stops mucking about and releases PS5 games Day one on PC. We all know its coming. MS also did this slow rollout to avoid backlash before fully embracing it. It's funny that when I pointed this out back when Herman claimed porting Horizon didnt mean every game was going to get ported, people jumped down my throat and called me chicken little. I remember posting a Phil Spencer tweet when he said exactly that after porting Gears 4 or maybe it was Quantum Break.

This was always the end game.

people say these threads are dumb but they're actually very revealing about the psyche of the current generation of gamers, just think for every poster like this there's thousands of kids who feel the same

Good luck with that. A lawyer would spin this as only on their home console, opposite to say Xbox and Switch as PC is an open platform etc. I'm not saying what Sony did isn't bad. I mean they intentionally hid that MM and Horizon aren't exclusive then had a ridiculous upgrade plan for MM then after promising that Horizon upgrade would be free tried to test the waters that it isn't then when the backlash hit they backtracked. BUT it is hard to sue for stuff like this is my point, unless you are a very rich and very bored.

What most are saying, from what I've seen, is that it harms PlayStation consoles in that exclusives are important for the platform and this is diluting that aspect of the ecosystem. I don't buy that argument at all, but I also have not seen anyone say that any single game is somehow diminished simply because it has been ported to PC. The post you quoted wasn't saying that either.
What I'm getting from these replies from gamers that are "OK" with it is that the game won't be available for the PC after a number of years so no need to stress over it. The only logical explanation for that type of comment is that the game will somehow lose it's "luster" so that they no longer care about it. The same people are saying that if it came out day-and-date that they would leave the PS ecosystem thereby placing major emphasis on time being a factor instead of the actual game itself. If time wasn't a factor then they would be pissed regardless of whether the game comes out day-and-date or 3yrs from now.

Those games were only on Playstation.

Now they aren't only on Playstation.

There you go Sony, there is your legal defense.

PC is a good place to spend thousands of dollars to years old Sony games that might still even have issues on the PC.

Personally, I’m happy with my PS5 where I know I’ll get the great Sony exclusives day 1 and can just put a disc in and play the game on my huge TV while sitting on my couch.
