The Switch Lite has reinvigorated my love for gaming again.

I took my switch over to my girlfriends house a couple months back so that we can play Mario Kart and Mario Party and have been so close to picking up a switch lite to keep at my house so I can play single player games before bed. But then I look at the switch oled and want that screen instead but I love the smaller form factor of the lite. Either way switch has some really incredible games and is a great device.

I need Windwaker and Twilight Princess HD ports. Why the fuck Skysword Sword got a port and they didn't is a travesty that needs to be fixed.

The two Zeldas, Star Fox, and Nintendoland are really the only remaining major holdouts from the WiiU that haven't been brought over.

Three houses, honestly I was gobsmacked by the lack of quality in the school (get stuck on tiny bits of terrain, it feels like a unity game using premade unity assets etc) and just the fact they refuse to evolve the animations in battle.

For example Fire Emblem Three houses.

That's what you get for attack animations, in a turn based strategy where due it's nature you can be flashy... vs anouther title on switch in the same genere.

I get it... but come on Nintendo... make some changes to make basic stuff look cool feel polished.

I gotta say I prefer simple and short animations, it's one of the good points of three houses since previous entries animations were longer and I just disabled then for fast paced combat, in this one I don't even have to and can still fast forward them out cancel them whenever I feel so... I rather have simplistic or nonexistent combat animations honestly...

I have been feeling so burnt out with modern gaming

death of Silent Hill

Kojima no longer making MGS

The last games I truly enjoyed were FF7 Remake and RE2 remake and even they were remakes of older games from generations I am sure many of us here would wax poetic about

why not give modern gaming another shot?

The quality of the games is amazing, reminding me of gaming eras long gone by

gaming experiences that makes me feel like a kid again playing SNES and Megadrive

Sounds like you couldn't get over your childhood being long gone and you're clinging onto your youth through outdated hardware with games with outdated mechanics.

Really, I don't get it. When I was a kid, I had no money, no esteem and a small penis. Who would like to get that back?
So the exact same as you are today?

Welcome OP to realising what an utter cancer GaaS is to the industry.

Naturally you will find a product of much lower quality when someone designs a game to maximise the length of time you play for the sake of MTXing you as much as possible vs just selling a game once that needs to be good to actually sell.

Don't get me wrong the switch is not perfect nor is Nintendo. There are plenty of low effort titles like Pokemon and the recent Fire Emblem that obviously have no desire to even try to make the game feel polished or high quality and is there to extract money from people with no standards.

However for every one of those there's three traditional well crafted and well made first party Nintendo titles.
I agree Fire Emblem and Pokemon are not up to the standards of other Nintendo first party titles,(since they aren't developed by Nintendo themselves, but Tecmo and GameFreak) but something must be quality about them if Three Houses has an 89 on MetaCritic, and an 88 on user scores, judging a book by its cover just makes you look silly. Not everything in games is about the visuals. hopefully Tecmo gets their shit together by the next FE entry, because if IS had developed Fire Emblem instead of Paper Mario it would have looked very pretty.

Like, even behind those PS2+ visuals a top tier Fire Emblem game is hidden, this is way different from masking garbage gameplay with pretty graphics or GaaS

For all it does well seems like Three Houses deserved to be a critical and commercial success

I've just responded to what you've written in the OP. No need to get that mad like a child would do.

Enjoy the ignore button. I have zero time for low effort fly by troll posts. If you want to insult me enjoy getting an equal response.
Not insulting you at all. You've asked for opinions on Steam Switch Lite reinvigorating your love for gaming as per your OP:

Any similar experiences or feelings on the matter?

I've just gave my honest opinion. No need to call my post low effort or tell I'm a troll. We can discuss like grown up adults that we are. Seriously, no need for tantrums.

Is it portable enough? 'cause I had one original Switch, and that thing is not portable at all. Its a home console through and through.

I play my 3DS to this day because it fits in my pockets easily so I can take it anywhere

Yeah man. Its slim and light enough to be in my pocket that's for sure but I guess it's all subjective. It feels great to me personally portable wise.

Recently I have been feeling so burnt out with modern gaming. Cyberpunk, UbiSoft cookie cookie cutter gaming, the death of Silent Hill, Kojima no longer making MGS, Battlefields with its broken gaming and broken promises and GAAS.

I've been finding it tough to just play. The last games I truly enjoyed were FF7 Remake and RE2 remake and even they were remakes of older games from generations I am sure many of us here would wax poetic about.

So today after a recent break up I found myself itching to get back into gaming again and thought screw it, why not give modern gaming another shot? So I bought a sleek black LE Pokemon Switch Lite with Metroid Dread, Shin Megami Tensei V and Monster Hunter Rise and some NGPC games from the eshop.

The quality of the games is amazing, reminding me of gaming eras long gone by and the system itself is light, a great screen and fits easily into my pocket. It looks great too. I'm glad that we still have companies like Nintendo still around to deliver gaming experiences that makes me feel like a kid again playing SNES and Megadrive and hanging onto every new game release. Even if Nintendo are not perfect it just feels great to able to come back from nearly giving up on gaming altogether to feeling like an excited kid all over again.

What say you Gaf? Any similar experiences or feelings on the matter?
I think that Nintendo Switch is one of the best Nintendo consoles that exist, I put it in second place, since SNES has always been the best for me.

I love the console, although I don't like the Lite version, but the OLED version or the first one.

I really love the direction Nintendo is taking, emphasizing Survival Horror, Visual Novel, great support from companies, Adult public and region free.

Here Nintendo got a big 10.

That's actually not true. In this case it's not only the hardware but mainly the quality of the back catalog. That's never a sure thing for any system.
That is VERY MUCH true. You don't know the quality of the games YET. I was bored in some of the most praised games by everyone already and you just checked two/three games.

This is the novelty factor kicking in hard - new system, new experiences. You can play on the toilet, in a car, differently than usually. Buy yourself a drone and the first few hours will be BRILLIANT.

I hope you all the best and that you'll play it for years to come with the same energy, but chances are you will put in a shelf in few months and just leave it there.

For the Switch, I totally agree; but the Switch Lite doesn't allow docked play. It ruins the immersion for some games. I like to alternate.

Currently playing Triangle Strategy and I'm totally digging it. Reminds me of when I used to enjoy Tactical on PS1 (FFT and Vandal Hearts... so good)

You have a Dreamcast avatar, so I already love you.

In terms of Switch, if you haven't already, get Zelda BotW. Or at least try it. Phenomenal game, great gameplay. It depends on what kind of game you like, but Mario Odyssey is very very polished. Every inch of that game was carefully put together, and it's really well made. It's no guarantee that you'll like it, but it's worth trying.

Depends on the game. Whether it's on switch ps xbox or pc. Sounds like you stuck to long with mediocre metacritc games

"sleek black LE Pokemon Switch Lite"

Btw an OG switch would give you the same experience

Unless you really want oled and dont care about stickdrift

I wish the OLED Switch had the sturdiness and form factor of the Lite. I love how it is actually one piece of hardware, like a bigger gameboy with no mechanical moving parts like the JoyCons that give the normal Switch some mechanical twisting/torsion if you put pressure on it. The Lite is sturdy piece of hardware.

Honestly if people are after a better game you have Triangle Strategy since its polished and consistent, and thats the issue because there is nothing to really criticise in terms of the tactical gameplay with Fire Emblem its so basic in terms of turn based strategy, perhaps I have just been spoilt by the likes of X-COM, I can only assume the high reviews is because people expect so little of a fire emblem title since they tried to sell you one game twice with Fates and instead of translating the game decided to have characters go on about pickles, three houses is better than that for sure, but that's a low bar to hit, however maybe that's just me.

then have I got a game for you, Hearts of Iron IV is serious good fun
